Gamezebo review:

"Unfortunately, aside from the spell power-ups, there's nothing new to get excited about. There's no story to speak of, so it's really just about the game. If you've already played a couple of match-threes and are generally neutral about the genre, you're unlikely to be blown away by anything you see in Jewel Match 2. Because of this, is probably best suited for hard-core fans who can't get enough of match-three, or those who've never played a tile matching game before and want one to start with a typical one."

Pros: Interesting spell power-ups. Relaxing and easy to play. Good game length.

Cons: No story. So-so presentation. Fairly typical match-three game without many new twists.

Rating: 3.0 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 3.0 out of 5 stars

Gamezebo review:

"Of the dozens of hidden object games that Gamezebo reviewed in 2008, one that I definitely didn't expect to get a sequel was Haunted Hotel, a game that we panned for, among other things, poor English, lackluster graphics and numerous technical gaffes. Haunted Hotel II: Believe the Lies is an improvement, but is still hampered by various issues."

Pros: Better cutscenes and dialogue than the first game. Decent graphics.

Cons: Confusing plot. Uneven soundtrack. Short. Puzzle solutions the same each time.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 2.0 out of 5 stars

The Jewel Match series may be simple, but they're some of the most relaxing & pleasant match-3s I've played. Great music, too.

Thanks, as always, for keeping the thread updated Otty Ott.

Gamezebo review:

"To close the circle, no, Sea Journey is not just another clone. The fantastic atmosphere and the exciting battles are well worth a try, obviously even for people like me, who generally associate match-3-games with boredom. It is interesting to see that games of this genre can work even better without time pressure. In particular, gamers who really enjoyed Puzzle Quest should play Sea Journey, since the basic premise of both games is the same, while the games are strongly different. Set sails, catch a parrot and make the best of this dangerous journey."

Pros: Beautiful graphics. Interesting twist on the match-3 genre (although borrows from Puzzle Quest). Unique pirate setting. Atmospheric music that corresponds to the setting.

Cons: Opponents' strategy is sometimes illogical. Number of upgrades is somewhat disappointing.

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 4.0 out of 5 stars

Gamezebo review:

"Cateia Games' Shaman Odyssey is the latest tropical island-themed building/sim game where you're tasked with shepherding a tribe of villagers through various challenges and dangers on a quest to reach their "true home." While the game boasts some unique graphical tricks, the wholly unoriginal premise and lackluster gameplay is a bit of a disappointment."

Pros: Interesting 3-D graphics. Ability to view island from multiple angles and perspectives.

Cons: Repetitive gameplay. Unoriginal premise. Dull dialogue. Font can be hard to read.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 3.0 out of 5 stars

Gamezebo review:

"What seems like an unexpectedly low rating at first glance turns out to be more than appropriate for Alice's Tea Cup Madness. A lackluster presentation, no gameplay innovations, and a difficulty level that seems to be aimed at small children result in a game which is not worth recommending except to the most die-hard of time management game fans."

Pros: Based on a charming and popular story.

Cons: Repetitive customers, locations, and upgrades. Only one mode. Can't cancel actions. Far too easy. Predictable customer orders. Boring mini-games. Can't compete with similar, older games in the genre. Average graphics.

Gamezebo review:

"Rhianna Ford & The Da Vinci Letter is slightly better than the average hidden object game, but sadly with so many of them on the market that's still not saying a whole lot."

Pros: Enjoyable mini-games. Crisp graphics. Decent length and replay value. Interesting comic book panel cutscenes.

Cons: Hammy voice acting with bad foreign accents. Some vague item labeling. Not the most interesting locations to visit.

"I love it when I feel game makers working hard to engage my interest. That's exactly the way I felt while playing Gardenscapes, a new hidden object game from Playrix Entertainment that sports top notch presentation, great art, and game design that kept me perpetually wanting to play just one more puzzle."

Pros: Beautiful art. Story and play meld seamlessly. Garden design is a fun side activity.

Cons: With only 15 rooms, it gets a bit repetitive. Hint systems are unoriginal.

"Cooking Dash - DinerTown Studios certainly has not moved mountains in comparison to its predecessor, and significant changes are few and far between. However, the game concept still has not lost its appeal, and fans of the dash series will be absolutely satisfied by this product without any doubt."

Pros: Fast-paced. Decent number of upgrades. Replay value. Nice graphics and animations. Humor. Ability to earn medals.

Cons: Quite similar to the first game. Easy to beat. The new features take some getting used to.

Gamezebo review:

"This being the case, it's hard to truly rake The Rise of Atlantis over the coals - what you have here is simply an extremely well-crafted brainteaser that delivers the goods without attempting to push any boundaries. For those who can't get enough of the popular "match three" approach to electronic amusements, it's guaranteed to satisfy. For those tiring of the textbook setup though, don't expect to stave off burnout with Terminal Studio's latest - a nice piece of eye candy, it's nonetheless a strictly by-the-numbers digital diversion."

Pros: Audiovisuals; Learning Curve; Backgrounds; Game balancing; Bonus screensaver

Cons: Single play mode; Emphasizes matches over combos

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Gamezebo review:

"It is rare and a bit wonderful to encounter a hidden object game that is as polished and fun to play as Cassandra's Journey 2: The Fifth Sun of Nostradamus. You can play the game's various mini-games and fortune-telling tricks from the main menu, but it's the core story mode and its intricately designed levels that will win most players over. You can expect a solid six to eight hours of play from this title, gameplay that was good enough to make me forgive the sequel-bait ending. Instead I take it happily, as a promise that I'll eventually get to play another Cassandra's Journey title."

Pros: Highly polished presentation. Challenging levels with lots of variety. Excellent hint system. Fun mini-games and fortune-telling card tricks.

Cons: Minimal replay value. Some pixel-hunting is required.

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars

There was no review of Magicville: Art Of Magic on Gamezebo, but there were several user reviews. The average score was 3 stars out of 5.

Here is a description of the game:

In the shadow of Spellgarth Castle lies the sleepy hamlet of Magicville in the heart of the Fogmere Archipelago. Long banished from Fogmere for the practice of dark magic, an evil wizard now holds the kingdom under a reign of darkness. With the help of Tiana, the faerie queen, only Eldric can restore peace to this troubled land. Use your Match 3 skills as you journey across extraordinary lands and release Fogmere from its evil rule before it’s too late in Magicville: Art of Magic.

  • Gripping gameplay
  • Powerful spells
  • Save Fogmere from evil!

Gamezebo review:

"In the end we can only hope that the Build It! indicates the beginning of a new series, because this title is already entertaining and unique enough as it is, and with some minor improvements for possible sequels this game could easily compete with leading titles of the genre such as Build-a-Lot or Coconut Queen. Enjoy the ride through six decades at the beach of Miami and plan and watch the growth of your resort."

Pros: Two modes. Above average length. Interesting take on the building simulation genre. Very different and challenging construction tasks.

Cons: Controls and overview can become complicated. Inanimate presentation. Would be nice to replay particular levels later on.

Gamezebo review:

"Elements proves a perfectly fun, functional and grey matter-taxing (if relatively innocuous) amusement that's blessed with good looks and a catchy score. Unfortunately, it's not exactly what we'd call brilliant or particularly engrossing either, rendering the title suitable mostly as a way of relaxing before turning in for the evening or soothing mid-day diversion."

Pros: Simple. Yet engaging. Soothing presentation. Alchemical theme. Animated backdrops.

Cons: Minimalist design. Gets repetitious. May be too relaxed for some.

Rating: 3.0 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 4.0 out of 5 stars

"Phantom of the Renaissance Faire is a beautifully done, smart game that masterfully accommodates a variety of skill levels and is still fun even on your second playthrough. It makes a wonderful game for a family with younger kids, aviation fans and people interested in history. Those desiring a challenge won't find it here."

Pros: Crisp graphics. Integration of Earhart's story. Two modes. Reflects time period.

Gamezebo review:

"Autumn's Treasure: The Jade Coin has everything a great hidden object game needs. It has a plucky heroine, a lost treasure, a trail of clues that leads all over the world, and a nefarious syndicate up to no good. It's even put a nice twist on the item-finding mechanic and thrown in a few puzzles for good measure. So why is it such a tedious, boring chore to play?"

Pros: Relatively unique concept. Some entertaining puzzles.

Cons: Tedious. A bit on the short side. Items can be obscure or hard to find. Harsh penalty for using hints.

Gamezebo review:

"Miss Terri Tale: Vote 4 Me, a hidden object game, is less of a sequel to Miss Terri Tale than it is a do-over. A much better hint system and an excellent variety of minigames are significant improvements. However, locations and characters are identical to the first game with just a few new extensions. In addition, translation errors and an incomprehensible story keep even this improved version out of the top tier of hidden object games."

Pros: Straightforward hidden object gameplay. Good variety of mini-games. Generous hint system.

"PuppetShow: Mystery of Joyville is as masterfully constructed as one of its mechanical puppets, creating an atmosphere of dread and foreboding with just a few journal entries and cleverly staged scenes. Its dark tale is perfect for Halloween, and leaves the door wide open for a sequel that will hopefully be coming sooner rather than later. It's a bit on the short side, unfortunately, but if you enjoy all things spooky and creepy, you're sure to love every minute you spend in Joyville."

"Doors of the Mind: Inner Mysteries is a game that’s impossible to recommend, between its extreme brevity, graphics issues, and disappointing storyline. There are countless hidden object games available now that are going to be far more satisfying investments of player’s time. Most HOGs don’t play with ideas as promising as the ones Doors of the Mind tried to work with, though, which makes this game’s mediocrity all the more disappointing."

Pros: Interesting premise. Some levels have a striking, eerie atmosphere.

Cons: Low-res graphics lead to excessive pixel-hunting. Hint system is occasionally useless. Story is ultimately disappointing and dissatisfying.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Gamezebo review:

"There's more to a game than just the final score, of course, but in the end that's what it all comes down to and in that regard, Nick Chase and the Deadly Diamond has left me in a bit of an odd position. The setting is great, the production values are brilliant and it starts out very strongly, but as it progresses and inserts more and more "adventure" elements into the mix, it slows and sags and just never recovers. The presentation is fantastic but it just can't overcome the crippling lack of originality that plagues the game. At the end of the day, the Deadly Diamond is really a cubic zirconia: It looks fabulous as long as you don't look too closely."

Pros: Great presentation of the noir setting. Looks and sounds great.

Cons: Too many unoriginal gameplay elements take away from the fun.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Gamezebo review:

"Elementals: The Magic Key is a great little hidden object/puzzle/strategy game for kids, and just the sort of game that cash-strapped parents working through our troubled economy might want to consider instead of investing in pricey consoles and their $60 software."

Pros: Beautiful hand-drawn fantasy art. Interesting narrative about a magic school and its pupils. Diverse selection of puzzles. Fun strategy-based elemental battles.

Cons: Perhaps too easy for some players, thanks to an excess of aids. Worthwhile dialogue flashes along at its own pace (sometimes too fast), with no way to pause.

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars; Average Player Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars
