I have been stopping by my local Big Lots in Camden, SC for the past several weeks and havent seen the pc game shipment that everyone has been talking about. The space for the pc games is there but full of old poker games and other crap.

When should these shipments be arriving here in SC?

on Orange Blossom Trail while I was on Holiday. The rack couldn't be in a much worse place. As a result, I'm sure this BL does not sell lots of Software, so they probably don't get restocked often. The didn't have more than 3 of our titles on the shelf.

I was in Muncy, PA this week and had better findings. I took a detailed inventory (ours and our competition's). I'll check my notes and post exactly what was at that spot Monday morning. I know the Eidos load hit there for sure.

PGgirl.

Are all Big Lots stores supposed to be carrying these games? The Big Lots I go to in Santa Clarita, CA never has anything. They keep two small areas on shelves, and usually they are full of DVDs. I spot maybe one or two copies of a few children's education titles, but nothing like these games.

If I knew the Big Lots here would carry some of the titles mentioned here, I certainly would make the drive across town and pickup a few.
Last weekend I picked up Thief 2 and look forward to playing it as soon as I am finished with this weeks exams!
Thief 2 is great, but there are around three serious bugs requiring patches to make it work right in XP. One is a video codec, and I forget the other problems. Once you do, though, it's a great game.

Our deal is also close with Eidos. Here are the titles heading to BL in May:

25 to Life
Battlestations Midway
Bionicle
Ford Street Racing
Hitman Bloodmoney
Infernal
Just Cause
Kane and Lynch (yes, not a misprint)
Lego Star Wars
Tomb Raider Anniversay.

And yes! Buy the enemy's goods. We need the PC category healthy at BL as a whole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, if anyone was looking for a copy of Thief 2, I have one. Just PM me.

Wow, awesome list. Can't wait till May.

I feel the same way you do. In fact, I pretty much gave up on my local BLs when the quality of the titles went down about the time most of the prices went up. I did happen to go in there and found one title (Tribes Vengeance) that was worth it to me and luckily it was $4. $4 is about my limit too with all the other sources of < $10 games that are usually more recent than BLs selection.
In regards to any game priced at $10: No. It doesn't matter if it's "worth it" or not- Plenty of games hold much more value than their price at Big Lots, but that's not the point. Years ago when I started shopping for PC games at Big Lots, the majority of them were $3. Now they are almost exclusively $6. I am against any game more than $6.
Really looking forward to Lego Star Wars and Hitman.

Already snagged Battlestations Midway for $7 shipped on eBay.

:( I picked up Battlestations Midway back when it was new but never really played it a lot. Now I feel like I wasted $40+. Still, very good list of Eidos games. Those will definitely sell quickly.

We've just made an agreement with BL to ship them 30,000 $ 4.00 games and 42,000 $ 6.00 games in late April. The rep promised me the list by Tuesday afternoon at the latest. I know the RCT3 Wild and RCT3 Soaked are both in the $ 4.00 assortment and RCT3 is in the $ 6.00. I'll post all the titles the minute I get them.

Thanks,

PcGirl:bouncy:

First timer in the thread. I'm glad to see BL is getting more HIGH QUALITY games, but I tend to think the bad games will bring down the good game sales if the stores don't request a restock because their shelves are full of non-selling titles. Kissing canines? That sounds awful.

I used to buy games at Big Lots and I will frequent the games section again now with the insider info. The $6 game selection looks GREAT. The $4 expansions are very nice as well. Getting a full set of the RCT3 games for $14 at B&M? Awesome.

Still though, it seems like the way to make sure Big Lots sales stay high is to stock them with predominantly high-quality software. The $4 items mostly suck, IMHO. I think it'd be better to have high-quality games and kids/edutainment titles in the $4 section. The other cutesy stuff like Kissing Canines (and junky-sounding productivity software like Print Workshop 2007) just doesn't seem to move.

I don't play a ton of PC games and I know I would be much more likely to buy software at Big Lots if I could be fairly confident that it didn't suck. I made a list of games that other CAGers said they want in this thread and I will look for those when I go to Big Lots. No one wants to buy a game that is universally regarded as awful. I don't tend to buy games unless they have a decent rating at IGN or Gamespot or a CAGer has mentioned it. That goes for $6 games, $10 games, or $60 games. No one wants to own junk.

That said, if there were a $10 tier at Big Lots that had ONLY games that had a 7+ at IGN, then I would be much more likely to make a casual purchase. If I could be confident that it was good without going home and looking it up, I would find it very useful. Maybe if there were stickers with the IGN or Gamespot scores for the better games or something, it would work too.

Sorry for the essay.

The games I'll be looking up and then looking for:

Last time I tried PC version of K&L: Dead Men's Multiplayer Portion (AKA Fragile Alliance), which was a few months ago, NOBODY was playing it on Windows Live -- you were lucky to see 2-3 servers running.

K&L's Single Player portion is good, but the game just doesn't perform that good out the box (framerate-wise, it's all over the place) and also the cover mechanics are kind of wonky.

Holy frag, Bad Day In LA! Finally, I'll be able to get it!

... What? :p

That is, if my store even gets anything. They NEVER get anything other than stupid bridge games.

The $6 assortment overall looks very good. A lot of recognizable titles. Then $4 list is lacking though. My opinion is to try and get older titles for the $4 list that were good/passable for it's time. Do I do like the idea of edutainment and PC help programs on the list. Those should definitely sell to an average costumer with kids or older costumers who wants to learn about how to do stuff with their computers.

Anyway, I'll definitely be hunting down RTC3 and the expansions. That's a pretty good deal when you consider RCT3 Platinum is all 3 discs for $30 MSRP. And I may keep an eye of for Bad Day LA. I heard it was bad but American Mcgee (the Director) does make unique enough games for me to at least try it.
And I may keep an eye of for Bad Day LA. I heard it was bad but American Mcgee (the Director) does make unique enough games for me to at least try it.
Many have been burned under this notion. :)

Just picked up Hearts of Iron, Thief II, Europa Universalis III, and a second copy of Defcon. I've got to say that Big Lots has seen a marked improvement in the quality of games.

Found out that one of my local Big Lots! stores has a HUGE pallet of bottled water about 1 ft from the PC games display. Makes it very uncomfortable to browse the selection. They had lots of games, but nothing I particularly wanted. Lots of Phantasy Star Universe. Three copies or so of Psychonauts, Harbinger, Missing. Considered getting Harbinger & Missing, but decided not to. Thought they might be a little scary for me after looking at the box (I'm a wuss).

^^Missing is awesome. I definitely recommend it. And it's not really scary. It's a little creepy but there is nothing that should make you want to stop playing because of fear.
Be careful with Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon. It has Starforce.
Also be aware that the Starforce prevents the game from launching in Windows Vista.

Okay, cool. Next time I'm in the area, I'll pick it up.
Picked up the Heart of Iron Anthology for $6. They had Darwinia for $4 but some stole it out of the box.
Yeah, I noticed a few that were stolen too. Pretty sad when you have to steal a $6 or $4 game. High risk, low reward.

It would have been funny if they only stole the disc and not the code. *wonders if the code is on the disc/jewel case...*

Or when someone steals the disk out of Elder Scrolls Oblivion for 360 at Goodwill...which was marked $3.25!!! :bomb: I'd like to find the little thief and beat him to death with the empty case.

Funny thing about Goodwill is that it could have been donated that way!

Where'd PCGirl go? She said the new batch was shipping in *late* April, right? Sad... must wait longer for RCT3. The March batch shipped like March 6. I've got plenty to play between now and then. Just a question of whether I remember to go back and look when they finally get to stores.

Didn't see new shipments at a Western PA Big Lots, (Saw lots of newly arrived EA games, they must be behind the curve) but did find:

Psychonauts
Alien 51
Darwinia

Had Defcon in my hand like a week ago (no idea what it was), looked it up, and of course it had been purchased when I went back. PCGirl, are more of those headed out?
Would love to wrap my hands around that again. Great demo.

I was able to pick up thief II. Im actually hasitant to play it, because i might have been either spoiled by 3, or the fact that i havent played 1.
Is it ok to just play it?

Thief II is excellent. Install and play it now.

In a lot of ways it's better than Deadly Shadows, which was dumbed down a lot like Deus EX Invisible War. Thief II had larger environments, and was a little more challenging. And it was first person, which was a lot tighter in terms of control. It was also really buggy on XP, so go to the "Thief The Circle" fansite and get all the patches before playing.

Yes mbartholow,

1500 more Defcon headed to Big Lots in Late April. Should arrive at the stores 10-15 days later. But that's the last of em. We're out.
