Big Time Publisher: Wii is "a ****ing genesis"
Explain this to me, aside from the pipe-dream of someone else getting a crack at Nintendo's properties, what exactly did you want from a new Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc?
Personally I had no problems with Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy or MP3. All were great games. I just ditched the Wii as there was nothing I wanted after that as those are the only Nintendo franchises I like and there weren't any third party games that interested me (not into stuff like No More Heroes, casual games etc.).

I'm not going to get dragged into this discussion, but I *strongly* feel that if the Wii had the graphics of the 360, 95% of the complaining would stop.

I think that's a small part of it for me personally. I didn't have an HD TV when I got the Wii. Once I did it was harder to enjoy. But it was more just the aforementioned lack of games that I personally wanted to play.

My tastes shifted to mainly playing FPS and western RPGs and of course the Wii is the wrong console for that. But yes the lack of HD graphics and decent online gaming also factored into selling it and sticking with just a 360 for me.

So, I guess in a direct response, tell me what you wanted from a new Mario or Metroid that WASN'T delivered with the Wii iterations? I'm not being sarcastic at all here, I'm genuinely asking.

For me, I just needed sequels faster or for third parties to put out some worthwhile platformers, FPS games, action-adventure games like Zelda etc. The Wii incarnations were great, I was just left with no personal "must play" games after beating them so I had no reason to keep the console around.

Doubt all of this is true, I'd imagine EA/Activision are also doing well at least. Some of it makes sense when you consider the lack of great 3rd party games. At the same time, I'm sure this guy would change his tune if he were seeing tons of money from Wii games...

This isn't correct. I tried to play a few games last night, and the cartridges wouldn't fit into the slot. Is Nintendo selling an adapter?
Have you tried inserting credit cards into the Wii? I've heard that helps.
Yes I was banned, but that's not why I hate GAF; it's the self important snottiness they show over there. They think they're god's gift to the internet, and steal 4chan and other sites ideas and label them their own.

Also if you want to know what GAF-er I was, just search for last years post season baseball thread; I was in the title.
@ BostonCollegeFan: I want to sincerely thank you for having the courage to speak my exact feelings about GAF. I have an account there but very rarely post there. Why? For the exact reasons you said. They are snotty and stuck up. They definitely have an exclusive "Country Club" or "clique" if you will. If you are not a part of it your voice and opinion go completely unheard or un-noticed. Which is really sad because everyone is entitled to an opinion and a voice on every issue. I would love to contribute an "Official game thread" there but obviously not a chance in hell of it the way things are. If you are very unlucky they will tear you completely apart. Again totally unfair. I got ripped apart simply for my belief in the afterlife! I was deeply offended and for every day I browse topics there the more I am getting fed up with their cockiness and snottiness. They are NOT God's gift to the internet that's for damn sure.

I am also extremely bothered by how some people there view themselves as complete know-it-alls on each game genre and company. They need to get off their high horses and let some of us who truly want to have a voice and contribute something worthwhile there that chance!

Almost all the Mods there do NOT deserve that privilege whatsoever. I'm not going to name names but many of them clearly shouldn't be in a position to moderate. You do not EVER take away people's right to free speech or deny them a chance to express their opinion! Especially if it is in a civil, constructive manner.

I truly and sincerely feel sorry for Denis Dyack :( Those jackasses literally destroyed his career without any thoughts of "Hey maybe he enjoys his work and has a family to support". That made me angry. At some point, those morons are going to offend the wrong person who has the power to shut that site down and when that day comes, I know they will all be throwing a crap fit but the internet will be better off once that site is gone. CAG however, is the way a lot of forums should be. There are a lot of friendly people here that know how to discuss stuff friendly and civily :D

I'm sorry for this long post but I wanted to thank you for having the courage to say what that site truly is..trash. I'm glad I am not the only one who feels that way :D

ive like all nintendos systems up until now and ive had them all ( except the snes) up until now. the wii is basically an electronic boardgame. the majority of wiis sold are to people who bought ut to use with their friends every now and then.thats why its good to not be a system loyalist. love the games not the game consoles. if not for the fail rate of consoles i was close to getting an xbox because at the time they had the best games.

It's sad you feel that way but Nintendo's put out some great hardcore games like Zelda, Smash, Galaxy, Mario Kart and Metroid that I've had tons of fun playing. I'm also sure they have some great hardcore games cooking right now, it just takes awhile to develop a Nintendo quality game.

I'm also enjoying the new play control series. I loved the Resident Evil 4 remake that had controls far superior to a standard controller, and I'm really looking forward to playing both of the Metroid games with the Metroid Prime 3 control scheme.

I've also really been enjoying some of the third party offerings on the systems. Just recently I've played Boom Blox, de Blob and No More Heroes, all of which were tons of fun. Both Madworld and House of the Dead Overkill look interesting, though I'm fairly broke right now so I can't pick them up.

I'm also looking forward to some upcoming third party games like the new Tales of game from the main team and Muramasa.

I'm actually getting more enjoyment out of my Wii then my 360. The 360's great for shooters, but I want something more and the Wii is able to provide that far better then the 360. If I were to get rid of my 360 the only games I'd really miss would be Tales of Vesperia, Resident Evil 5 (though I imagine that will make it to the PC eventually) and to a lesser extent Crackdown and the Condemned series. Everything else I could get on my PC.

Plus I get my shooter fix with Team Fortress 2 on the PC. ;)

Going over all I could find about Denis Dyack, it seems like he goaded them into saying bad things about a game they hadn't played. His little social experiment created so much negative buzz about the game that it would've had to have been amazing to turn anyones opinion, but then, they played Too Human.

this is very funny because if you listen to the interview again, the guy makes a clear statement on the direction these developers are going into. they are very lazy and untalented. there is a moment in the interview where the guy says that you're basically making a game on a single platform instead of having to create the games individually according to each individual platform. he mentions that you create it for the pc and it's practically also a 360/ps3 game. what does that tell you, they're untalented and lazy.

now i'm wondering why there are so many fps on these consoles? is it because they're "easy" to make and the reason why they prefer them?

They sell big numbers. As simple as that.

Developer are going to make what sells, and shooters are the best selling genre outside of something like Madden when it comes to traditional (i.e. non-casual) games.
this gen definetly seems to be moslt about fps. theyre ok but i miss platformer.
I don't. I used to love platformers, especially 2D ones. But I've mostly gotten tired of them.

So things have worked out well for me since my tastes have shifted mainly to FPS and Western RPGs the past 5 years or so.

FPS are great for vegging out and blowing off steam after a long day at work, and WRPGs with the big worlds etc. are great for getting lost in an alternate universe for a couple hours (without the turn based combat, silly characters and other crap of JRPGs).

But it definitely probably sucks for those into genres like platformers which are fewer and further between these days.

I'd say it sounds about right. Look at how every time someone's pushed a huge, non-casual type game on the Wii, it tends to bomb in sales. Meanwhile, Ubisoft continuously pumps out Imagine, Petz, and all sorts of licensed media that shouldn't be games, meanwhile developers like Capcom struggle to get noteworthy games out there.
so there goes the whole 2 gamecubes strapped together theory lol. im not surprised those kinds of games are the main ones that are profitable which further explains why all you moslty see are crap games . i still shake my head at that nerf wii game. george bush may hate black people but its obvious nintendo hates gamers.
as they should. look what gamers did for the N64 & Gamecube. look at what they're doing for the ps3 in this generation. nintendo didn't fail us, we failed Nintendo.

Never owned a playstation and didn't get a ps2 until a few years ago.

Owned a N64 and Gamecube and bought a lot of games for those.

Nintendo DID fail me with their shitty waggle controls. And Melee > Brawl!

Everything could have been so great if only brawl>melee.... AND WHERE THE fuck IS STARFOX!
You know what's more interesting? Taking the title literally. I wonder what it would be like if a Genesis could do that. :p
Actually, it'd be incorrect. A Genesis is like a Genesis. If anything, the Wii is like a Gamecube and we all already fucking KNEW that.

Hmm, I found the puzzles in Braid to be very logical. You knew you're toolset, you just had to think outside the box enough to apply your skills correctly. They certainly were solvable without FAQ's, it wasn't obtuse like some of the puzzles in old adventure games for example.

What do yo mean, you dont typically make a pair of undies into a slingshot? Whats wrong with you.

It's nothing like that. The puzzle element is like Tetris attack, and it occurs simultaneously as you platform. You can 'pause' the action, and go for the tetris attack like puzzle below to get power ups, health, etc. Or, you can ignore it entirely (though letting an 'enemy' block hit the top causes you problems).

There's a review on gametrailers. Check it outs ometime.
That guy sounds like a sore loser to me. WII is very succesfull and plenty of developers are making games for it.
Plenty of NO NAME developers pumping out shovelware, to be precise.

Just because the console is successful and everyone's trying to make a quick buck with the Wii doesn't mean other developers that put in effort to make a game work on the Wii make money as well.

How many games can you name that manage to become top sellers each month for the Wii that AREN'T made by Nintendo or someone pushing a casual Coach type game or the usual Rock Band/Guitar Hero?

Its almost a lost cause to explain it to the nintendo fanatics out there. Theres TONS of shovelware and the usual casual stuff moving, sure, but hardcore games sell like ass, and even if one or 2 found success, who is to say any one else can replicate it. People need to let it go and just realize that the best games this gen will not be on the wii, end of story.

wii is going back to the basics. the one thing in gaming that goes back to the basics are arcade games. arcade games are simple to play and very fun and addictive. not only that, they are short time game periods. all this are the ideas that the wii focuses on. but it's not only on the idea of arcades as they can also have rpg's and other non arcade games. but developers don't see that.

i thought capcom, namco and sega could have made good or maybe great money from the wii as they were once very prominent arcade makers. but seeing the direction their heading, maybe not a chance.

i believe taito would have been great for wii but they were bought by someone, i don't remember who, so they're out of the equation.
Mercy Derail: What the fuck has Monolith been doing since Nintendo bought them?
That's a great question. The last I heard was Super Robot Wars Boobies (which Atlus is having to localize) and Soma Bringer (which Nintendo will never publish). Then again, what are they doing now? More DS RPGs? I hear the system has enough of them already.
Mercy Derail: What the fuck has Monolith been doing since Nintendo bought them?
My guess is that when they finished making Disaster they started working on an RPG. Disaster only came out in September of last year, it takes some time to make an RPG.

Except arcades were fun.

These "short, simplistic and fun" games you speak of for the Wii are in very small numbers. Some games try to replicate this and become absolutely broken and unplayable or absolutely, ridiculously easy (take Legend of the Monkey King, for example).

I don't know what arcade games you played, but I certainly don't remember Golden Axe and Street Fighter II mixed in with "Ninjabread Man" or "My Fitness Coach" or "Deca Sports."

This is not Nintendo going back to the basics. Going back to the basics would be doing what Capcom did with Mega Man 9. Going back to the basics would be what Nintendo did with New Super Mario Bros. This is Nintendo giving everyone a free pass to develop on the Wii (and DS), which results in everyone pushing as much shit into a 2-pound bag as possible, while Nintendo sits back and relaxes while the money rolls in.
