Biggest boom for your buck! (the gaming speakers topic)

CAGiversary!
Alright guys, I missed out on the 300w Screen Beat Sound Station speakers at Amazon. So I would like to know what the best sound you can get for your money is. Please keep in mind this would be mainly for while I'm playing games on my GameCube.

you could probably pick up a cheap all in one home theater system for like 100 -200. it would support pro-logic 2, and probably even have a dvd player included.

Sweet I had an eye on the Z-640's and now that they're 50 bucks I'll probably get em'. All the gamers I have talked to that own Z-640's enjoy the heck outta them! I can't wait to hear Metroid Prime and Resident Evil on these baby's.

the z-640's aren't really meant for consoles or tv's. there really comp speakers. i'd go for a system thats meant for the tv.

they have coby surround sound home theater set with a dvd player for $79.99 at fye after $20 MIR. they're not the greatest, but i bet if you're using it in a small room, it'll sound decent. :D

The Kinyo 5.1 Surround System is really nice for it's approx $60 price tag. It works great in a bedroom or a small room, but you might want something a little more for a living room.

Hi, to anyone who has the Logitech Z-640's. I am thinking about getting them but I'm unsure of how to hook them up. I will be hooking them up and using them with my Xbox- ps2 - gamecube - and possibly PC later.

Can I hook them up if I am using Component cables with my systems? Or are the audio parts the same thing but just look different?

"A handy supplied adapter ensures instant connectivity with gaming consoles."

I don't even know what this is.

Also is it easy to hook them up to all my systems and can I have it hooked up to watch TV also.

Thanks guys.

Hes right they aren't they don't have any decoders or anything. This means you can only put stereo in and get stereo out. With a decoder you stick optical (or stereo for pro logic 2[faked surround sound but very good]) and it pumps out 5.1 - 7.1 channels. (the 2 in 7.1 are actually faked in dolby digital but are actual discrete channels in dts. )

On the other hand check out the z680s they can be had for under 300 online and they blow the crap out of just about ever home theater in a box you'll find at best buy. The speakers list the constant level they can stay at (500 WATTS) unlike just about every ht in a box that lists a peak wattage of 500. This is probably the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Not saying you cant build a system that sounds better you can do that but a pair of klipsch towers costs 400 bucks and thats the low end.

it wont be for a long time, but u can always get decent systems the day after thanksgiving. Thats how i purchasedm mine.

So if they have decoders do you need a reciver? I didn't really want to invest large. I might as well build my own set if I need a reciver also.

insert credit.com
this topic was good over there too :)

good to see I'm not the only one going there

anyways, i use the crappy target clearance speakers. (not the good ones, mind you) and i need an upgrade too. The only problem is that i would need a system selector that could put out optical sound. It whould be a pain to have to switch them every time

Hey basketcase, that doesn't sound like a bad idea! Especially cause I've got some games I missed out on that I have to get (Def Jam, NBA Street 2 and BG&E). Hey Mustang O-line (T3H K0J1M4) good to see another insertcredit member around! Yup I started the same thing over there cuz' I wanted a lot of opinions ^_^

So those 640's won't take advantage of 5.1 if I hook them up to my xbox/ps2 etc but the 680s will?

If you're wanting a fairly inexpensive set that you can build on, check out the speakers at www.fluance.com They make some fantastic speakers for $199 that sound like those that cost thousands. Plus you can build a good system around it by buying a decent subwoofer and receiver down the line.

They will work but you'll get 5 channels of the same two-channel stereo stream whereas with a decoder you'll get multiple channels of discrete audio.

Target is clearing out the Audiovox Xtreme Gaming Surround Sound System for 24.99 or something like that, 50 watts and 5,1 speakers, I picked one earlier today. Original price of 99.99
