I only started visiting Kmart for their gaming deals last year, so I don't know if they started their new efforts in 2009. Otherwise, I'd say nobody expected Kmart to cater directly to video game deal hunters, and none of us expected to ever step into one in the new millennium. They've definitely stolen my business from many of the usual online/b&m retailers.

I fully expect them to get nominated in the Best B&M Retailer category, but I also think they deserve recognition for busting things up and becoming a real player.

agreed...
LivingSocial and their $10 for $20 promotion. I dunno about you, but that sh*t was crazy.
That was also like 3 weeks ago, not in 2010.

Amazon matching just about every Black Friday deal and having them available before hand. There was no need to rush or go to any stores and I got everything I wanted for myself and others, and I'm sure many other CAGs did too.

$250 3DS

I'd say the $150 Kinect, but damn, the thing's sold millions. $149 didn't really hit the pocket too badly apparently.

The $250 3DS is a 2011 News Item, not 2010, so it shouldn't count.

My nomination goes to the announcement of the Xbox 360 S model.

Pricepoint for the 3DS is worthy, I think... it's almost double the most Nintendo has ever charged for a handheld. When the PSP came out, I couldn't believe they would charge $250 for it ~5 years ago, but now Nintendo is putting out a system at a price more worthy of a console.

Also agree on KMart, though. I've never regarded them as anything more than a retail wasteland, who thought they would ever be competitive and worth your time?

SHC's blitz of CAG and bringing Kmart back to (gaming) prominence.

Oh, that EA Online Pass was pretty big too. I don't buy used games normally, so I forgot about that one.
gamecrazy and hollywood video bite the big one finally
This. 10000% this. I really miss their $5 game sales. As for Kmart becoming relevant to so many, it became irrelevant to me last year. Up until then I was still shopping there for cheap games.

XBL price increase.

The death of K-Mart and Sears clearances.

1. Kmart
2. HWV/GC shutting down
3. the death of Kmart/Sears Clearance Drops

if anyone is upset about paying $60 for XBL....your on the wrong site....

Removed posts re: Living Social Referral $20 Amazon gift card and the 3DS price point. Both took/take effect in 2011. 3DS price was announced last year, but as the system has yet to release, the actual impact will not be seen till it's actual release.

As much as I want to say Kmart doing a bang up job with video games, I have to go with XBL price increases. There was a lot of outrage and talk on that.

Another nomination for Kmart. Just the fact that Amazon is now matching their deals is enough for them to get my vote
