Update 12/21: January "MEGATON" announcement coming...
I just got an e-mail from Capcom about the new site going live and it had this interesting tidbit:
January will be a big month for Bionic Commando as we reveal our “MEGATON” announcement
to the world. Word on the street suggests that this will be garnering the front spot on a major website for the announcement near the end of the month - so keep your eyes peeled. Fans of the series are sure to love this!

That last sentence makes me think that an XBLA incarnation of the original is coming...or it may just be an unlockable in the game. Either way I'm hyped!

Update 10/23: Wire Mechanics Trailer

Capcom has revealed to GameSpot that it is developing a new Bionic Commando game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Simply called Bionic Commando, the new game will bring back the original game's hook (pun intended), with players able to use the main character's bionic grappling arm not only to navigate levels but to take out enemies at close range, rappel down sheer surfaces, or toss objects (like cars) at enemies.

Where the original Bionic Commando followed players on a mission to rescue a fellow agent named Super Joe, the new game's storyline appears to carry a more cynical edge. After serving his country honorably in conflict with the Imperials, technologically enhanced agent Nathan Spencer is framed for a number of crimes by his superiors and sentenced for execution. Fate intervenes, as an experimental terrorist weapon is detonated in Ascension City on the day Spencer is to be executed. With the city in ruins and Spencer uniquely equipped to handle the many skyscrapers, monorails, and suspended roadways, the government reluctantly turns to its imprisoned bionic commando for help.

To help the game live up to its pedigree, Capcom has made development of the game an international affair. An American producer, a Japanese creative advisor, and Stockholm, Sweden-based studio GRIN will be collaborating on the project. GRIN's most recent projects have included the PC conversions of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and its sequel.

This was rumored to be coming out a couple months back on EGM...didn't think it'd be true till I saw this. I hope they really make this game good and that we get a remake of the original for XBLA!

this could be awesome....emphasis on could be.
the orignal was great!!!
it would be cool to have to do some boards using no guns like the orignal....i think......
its, been a while since i ve played that one.

SHUT UP!!!!!!! OMG this has the potential to kick so much ass ... or be a complete blunder, I SOOO hope it kicks ass. I hope they stick with the roots and don't try to fancy it up too much; I wasn't a fan of the Rygar remake they did a while back.

Oh man, nothing like melty Hitler face for credits. A brutally unforgiving "win" condition at the end was so frustrating sometimes.

Funny thing is I thought BC should be brought back after all the grappling that was in Lost Planet. Looks decent and you can't go wrong with Capcom.

Theme song revamp FTW!

Kudos for the "finally" moment at the end. Minus points for the pack of hot dogs on his robotic triceps and lack of bazooka.

Wire Mechanics trailer has absolutely no swinging... what's with that? Basically looks like they added a whip feature to the Lost Planet hook...

I'd rather have a new IP... maybe a flashy XBLA remake a-la PoP.

Why not have both? I'm really hoping that they release the original for XBLA before this game is out, it would be a good marketing strategy.

Because their resources could be better allocated elsewhere.

There's a reason Bionic Commando hasn't received a sequel in 15 years... I mean, the original is a classic, don't get me wrong. But I don't think I'm too far out there if I predict this will sell like shit (and probably be pretty lame quality-wise, too).

I have very fond memories of the original but have you played it recently? It's... slow, I guess... to put it kindly.

Yes I've played it and still love it. It would be awesome if they release a full blown XBLA remake!

I agree with Linkin , i really hope they release the original on XBLA!!! I played it back in the day , and its a true classic:D !! I do hope that this new version on BC is very good , unlike the Rygar remake on PS2:roll: ?

Im a huge fan of the NES version, and have ZERO desire to play this game. Really thing its gonna be a toilet flush that leaves the poops still floating.

If the game is released on XBLA, it'll be the crappy arcade version, not the excellent NES port...

If you purchased Bionic Commando: Rearmed, check the options for an exclusive trailer of this game. It looks pretty bad ass, my interest went from a "worth a look" to "holly shit, I want it!"

BC:R is so polished for a $10 [arcade] game.

The trailers for the 3D Bionic Commando get me really pumped, but gameplay videos haven't lived up to that feeling (playing the game as badly as in that Giant Bomb video doesn't help persuade customers) so I'm banking on the demo to sway me... which if it does I'm waiting for at least a $20 price-drop since I'd be surprised if Capcom didn't pull another DLC scheme for this game (at least with PS3 DLC you can split the cost between 4 other CAGs).

I CANNOT wait for this game. It's my #1 game that I'm looking forward to atm. That GameTrailers video makes me even more excited about it. zomg. And, yes, the Giant Bomb guy isn't that great, but it's still a cool video, you get to see some of the cooler features, like the challenges.

Hope PS3 get a demo too. BC:R was one of my GotY's from 2008 and that swinging hobo main-character design has grew on me and those multiplayer character designs are the epitome of badass.
