Bionic Commando - Gen. Discussion & Info

OLD SKOOL CAPCOM STREET FIGHTER ERA INTRO! (Quick, Enter Down, R, Up, L, Y, B! Championship edition Code!*)

*Pretty sure this does nothing, now... but I'd try it anyway!

Anywho... Hey, this Piano Remix of the BC theme is awesome, lol.

-Hasn't played Demo Yet, but had to gush about old Capcom Intro Music SOMEWHERE.-

I wish the demo was single player instead at least that way i'd get a feel for the game, plus the the quality of the single player is going to reflect if i'll pick up the game or not. I played one game so far came second. Controls are a little tricky just take some getting used to.

Theres connection problems, takes AGES to get into a game then the connection fails awesome!

Really? I was able to get into two games back to back, it took literally 5 seconds or less for each game.

Either way, demo was awkward at first, but it's one of those things you really need to get used to. I started getting the hang of it a lot better half-way through my first match, which ironically, I won with 13 kills and 3 deaths. Apparently, I grasped the controls pretty quickly (since no one else really even came close to my score).

I enjoyed it, but it definitely takes time to get used to. Once you master the swing mechanic, it should be a breeze.

LINK?

The demo seems to not be working for me, as it stays on the Finding Game screen and then boots me back to the main menu. I'd rather have a browser of available games to join over this auto-join lobby system for the demo.

Edit: Finally got a match going and it was fun. A few times when swinging, I got a neat motion blur that made it feel like I was speeding through the air, which was pretty. Most times I just got some sort of half-assed slow swing going as I try to figure it out or I killed myself falling off of the ledge. I managed to get a few kills with the sniper rifle though, so I didn't do too bad.

Multiplayer seemed pretty lame to me. The long wait times certainly didn't help and knowing Capcom's recent track record for online interfaces well, I just hope this game has a great single player.

People are going to walk away either loving it or hating it. I'm the type of guy that thinks Shinobi and Nightshade on the PS2 were awesome games. Most people won't.

Bionic Commando is going to be one of those games.

ProTips: Swinging!!! Practice amongst the gunfire. Let go before you reach the peak of your swing to gain speedy distance. Use the D-Pad in the air to turn yourself around quickly so you can grab building sides and pipes to prevent you from falling to your death. Zip kick snipers off of buildings. Use Death From Above. Even if you don't kill someone with it, you'll still hurt them and push them back.
LINK?
Link to Piano Theme? I dunno if there is one... it's just the title screen music to the Demo:) And if you let it sit there on the screen, they show a trailer I don't believe I've seen anywhere else, that I believe has a semi-surprise guest at the end...

D-R-U-L-Y-B! -ahem- Really, I've been waiting for years for Capcom to reuse that code somewhere... I used to do it so much for Mirror-Matches in original SFII... and I tried it in Every Capcom game on SNES, lol.

After playing Demo for a while: Yeah, hits do look silly and weak in netplay. I imagine solid impacts will be better when there isn't LAG. Game FEEL smooth when playing it, though, which I kinda like... You don't feel your OWN motions lag, and your jumps and swings feel as smooth as they should...

Reguardless of that, overall, I love the feeling of it. I can see a lot of "Get used to this!" kinda stuff, but it seems like a well-created sequel to the feel of the 8 bit game. I might not play it forever, and I'll probably play Lost Planet 2's MP a lot more, but for a segment of what I mostly want as a single player experience, I'm rather happy with it. I hope MP feels a bit tighter in smaller rooms in the final, but otherwise, no problems!

Anyone know if this game will have a ranking system for MP unlocks like LP?

I'm loving the MP demo. I don't quite get the trick to getting into games, but there is one.

You have you hit right and A right when you go to the game lobby list, and then it will instantly connect you to players. Seems to work for me.

After playing this a little more, I absolutely love it. Day 1 purchase.

I'm also kicking ass online, I've only not come in first in 1 out of 5 or 6 matches (which I've lead by about 8 kills or more). I love you, GRIN.

Yeah, I don't know what kind of magical occurrence this is, but I am kicking ass online as well. Swinging around and doing death from above is so awesome!

I disliked the demo being MP, I am able to look pass this in conjunction with single player game video and know the game will be great, but one of my friends is turned off because he had no sense of the game play from playing multiplayer...and I can see his point...
Oh man, nothing like melty Hitler face for credits. A brutally unforgiving "win" condition at the end was so frustrating sometimes.
iirc you get to kill hitler and save your friend. Maybe i need to play that game again, i have it sitting on the shelf.

I only managed to play one online match last night (busy day) but I did have fun with it in my short play time. I'm really looking forward to playing it again.
Demo made the game go from a buy to a rent for me.
Agreed.

Why is the demo so damn dark? Couldn't they have picked a level to show off the game? I don't want to have to crank up the brightness on my TV, but the night level makes the game look like ass.

It was mildly fun, and I'll probably keep playing some more of the demo (hey, it's free).. but it didn't make me excited to pay more to play more.

Wow, this is lame. I can't get in to any games, it connects me to one, as we're loading it says "All players have disconnected" After that, I can't find any games unless I restart the game and that happens again.

Go into the options and turn the "gamma" up several notches. While you're in there, turn up your sensitivity too. Both adjustments make for a much better game. If only there was a "slow-ass matchmaking" setting that you could switch to "off".

For matchmaking, go in and wait about 5 - 10 seconds, if you get no results, back out and go back in. Rinse and repeat, and you'll eventually pretty much auto-connect into a game.

Eh ... the demo took this from rent .. to I'll rent if there's nothing else. Hopefully the single player mode is better. The controls felt way too clunky and unresponsive.

Dropping down from above was definitely cool, but that was about it.

I'll admit it, the finding a game is a 'lil broken in the demo, but I still find the game addicting, and still stand on saying that I'm glad I pre-ordered it.

Win lunch box, 8,000 MS Points, and a code for BCR if you and 7 friends change their motto to Bionic Commando = RAD, download the demo, and send a message to this guy:

http://capcom-unity.com/capcomcontest

I changed my motto. Anyone else want to do this?
I just PMed the Capcom guy for this. Feel free to use my GT and Capcom-Unity ID which is Cleaner7 just like my CAG name.

And the other night I played the MP demo of BC. It was okay, but I think it's one of those games that takes getting used to so I will play it some more.
feels like lost planet to me
Zuh? I never got that vibe. The grapple in LP doesn't let you swing or toss people or zip kick them in the chest or smack them in the face, etc. I mean just swinging makes this much faster than LP.

But in some regards, like dodging, and the weighty handling of weapons and animations. Yeah it is a bit LP-like in that regard.

Just two weeks kids! Who here is going to play hard mode to start since this demo is making us into Bionic Bad-Asses?

Holy crap, someone found a way to play the demo in private matches!

http://bioniccommando.com/forum/showthread.php?p=12578#post12578

Goto the main screen and press start. You will be brought to the "quit demo, options, xboxlive" options screen. STAY IN THIS SCREEN and get a friend to send you a game invite(any game).
accept the invite..then when it ask if you want to exit your current game hit no. You will now be brought to a screen where you can change to private match and invite friends.

Hell yes! :applause:

Tried the demo last nite at it's horrible, well not horrible but not very good either. Looks like one you rent for the single player and that's about it.
I couldn't even get into a game...
Same here, it searches for an hour, then puts me in my own lobby.

EDIT: Played a couple games, won both games, didnt enjoy it one bit. Deleted the demo already.

The private match trick is pretty cool. A friend and I just did 1-on-1 for a while and we had some epic swinging chases around the tower. I don't think this is a day one buy for me, but I definitely feel a lot better about the game after being able to play around with the arm some more.

Yeah the matchmaking is pretty much broken in the demo, but I'm gonna try that private match trick because I love the game itself.

This game is tons of fun in a private match. Once you get the swinging down--try to release when you see the blue 'arrow' looking indicator--you can cover huge amounts of ground in seconds.

This weekend, because of the Xbox Live Gold was free and that maybe the advertisement (dashboard) of the demo was available for download and play, I was able to find a match every time without doing the private match. But unfortunately I didn't like the game at all. It seemed to me like Quake 1 3rd person with a grappling hook. The first match I joined a lot of us kept dying off the edge of buildings because we would swing either too much or too little. I hope they make some improvements to this game or it'll just be a strict RENT. So far if I enjoyed the Xbox Live Updated 2 D Bionic Commando a lot more.

The demo was Gold Only as every time a friend of mine who was silver tried to download it, he would get the message that he needed to be a gold subscriber in order to download. So it wasn't due to that, however it's possible users on silver who had a gold account download it on their xbox could have been able to play it.

Demo converted my interest from "meh" to "guaranteed day one" in a matter of a few matches. The learning curve honestly isn't as steep as most mentioned I just wish I could figure out how to throw people. Grasp the hang of the swing mechanic and it's all gravy. Nothing like swing from pipe to building to another pipe Ala Spider Man and zip kicking some poor soul off the map in mid-air.

I can't wait to delve into the single player experience. The most hilarious moment I've had thus far was comboing a zip kick into a combat shotty to the face flinging a guy off the map for an insta-kill. Even better one was during my third play through when I rebounded off of a death to spawn right in front of the G. Launcher, snatched it, swung right back to where he was camping (on a pipe) and blew him away in mid swing. Pure win.

GAH! I want to play so bad now!

This game definitely has some epic moments. I love having zip kick fights, where you and someone else zip kick each other over and over, see who dies first, it's really fun when you both do it at the exact same time and die.

I still can't see why Capcom would release a multiplayer demo for this game. Is that really the ideal way to expose people to this franchise? Honestly, how many people are interested in Bionic Commando for the multiplayer???

Even though I expected the MP to be lackluster, I downloaded it anyway to see if I was wrong. I wasn't. If I ever buy this game, it will be strictly single player for me.

Hopefully Capcom will be smart and release a singleplayer demo along with the multiplayer one (Lost Planet style), because I still think the singleplayer has potential.

Did you play one or two 5 minute matches against total strangers, or a 30 minute private match against of two or more people on your friends list? If it's the former, then I wouldn't consider that the game's true multiplayer experience.

Finally got the multiplayer working, my brother had messed with port 0808 but I had him undo that, working fine.

I for one am really digging the multiplayer. Considering the full version will have a leveling system and 15 more maps, I'm stoked.
