Bioshock 2 - General Discussion & Info (Game now released!)
Maybe they will feature swimming in Bioshock 2. That would be innovative.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but there are underwater sequences.

From the Gamespot article posted in the OP
The underwater segments are being incorporated into the game to offer a breather from the tension and generally hazardous interior action. The short walk we saw as part of our demo let our boy gain access to another part of the city that would be otherwise inaccessible if he had simply stuck to the interior. The walks will be hazard free and will give players the chance to check out the exterior of the city (which looks incredibly cool) as well as the surrounding ocean life. One of the more-interesting and subtle details you'll see throughout the game is the impact that Rapture and ADAM are having on the larger sea environment. As it turns out, it's not a very pretty impact. Coral and plants are shaped oddly and mesh weirdly with the city. It's beautiful but also a little creepy.
Yeah I was being sarcastic. I remember beating Bioshock when it was brand new on PC and looking back and remembering no swimming/underwater sequences (unlike Half-Life 1/2 which frightened me with their underwater antics!). Now that I think about it you are swimming right at the beginning of the game...but uh, that don't count.

Haven't played bioshock yet.
I might get it when bioshock 2 comes out so it'll be cheaper.
Heard its really scary though, I dont like playing scary games by myself lol!

The interview video is very nice tho =)

Thanks for creating this thread, I know this game will be a lot better than the first since they will have experience now on the PS3

I like that the music is more contemporary than the music from the first title, that, combined with the atmosphere of Rapture, really shows how stagnant the city is, yet places you several years in the future.

Tho' it sounded like a generic hybrid of 'sleepwalk.' that's gotta be public domain by now, no?

Totally, totally stoked for this game.

looks great so far. I will probably end up getting this on 360 though to keep up with the whole be able to play a game franchise on one console theme I have going

Bioshock doesn't need a sequel. Rapture was a ruin.

I'm gonna have to be skeptical about this until convinced otherwise.

I'd prefer if they came up with another idea for a new game.
You play as the original Big Daddy and fight against Big Sisters. Sounds pretty lame to me though.

Found the artwork for Big Sisters here.

There's only 1 Big Sister, not multiples. The ranks of the Little Sisters have grown again, however.

I was questioning the need for a sequel, but changed my mind after reading the Gamespot article linked in the OP. Read it if you get the chance -- may change your mind.

Updated OP w/ a new developer interview.

Interesting point -- you can find the ADAM slugs while traversing the waters between zones and take them for your own. Interesting...

I'm such an idiot for watching the first 30 minutes and the ending on YouTube ~6 months before the BioShock port for PS3 was announced so now I'm avoiding that 9 minute gameplay since I don't want to spoil what's left for my virgin journey in Rapture until the first game gets to $15.

How much do we know about multiplayer and how it'll play? Straight up deathmatch with plasmids or more unique?

I forgot to include new information on the multiplayer section. Sounds good to me -- not tacked on but given actual thought and effort.
From the "be careful what you wish for" file, we've got the first details on the BioShock 2 multiplayer you all wanted so very much after the first game. You'll play as a Plasmid test subject working for Sinclair Solutions during the fall of Rapture as you battle other players in re-worked game locales like Kashmir Restaurant and Mercury Suites.

Victory over your opponents will yield experience that you can spend on new Plasmids, weapons and tonics. If you can take it, you can read all about the mode right here. The mode's being developed by Digital Extremes, which you likely remember for its work on Dark Sector.

... Hey, why do you all look so depressed? What? Us? No, we're not crying. Why would you *sniff* think that?
Stoked to duel wield the iconic plasmids and drill! Thank goodness the "Pipe Dreams" hacking mini-game will be replaced by a Gears of War-esque "Active Reload". The Multiplayer apartment seems gimmicky, but plasmid/tonic combat should lend itself easily in arenas to make it a full price buy for me.

Wants

 • Quest Arrow that doesn't disappear (can be turned off in the Options menu).
 • Infinite wallet capacity.
 • Speed Burst and Teleportation plasmids (as seen in the original BioShock developer walkthrough). Would be fitting if they nonchalantly copied Dead Space's "Stasis" power as a plasmid.
Pretty much what I expected, but goddamn I bet the singleplayer will see the return of research photos (wasn't fun first time around).
I didn't mind the research photos. At least there was a significant boost to your character for doing them.

Now, collecting all those audio diaries... that's another story!

I'm ambivalent about the MP, honestly.

Would've been sweet if they made a 'Guardian' mode (a'la Gears of War 2) where 2 teams have 1 prototype Big Daddy (BD) to protect and if he dies then you can't respawn anymore.

Anyone else would've preferred an arena filled with 12 prototype Big Daddies or is it just me?

Imagine an 'Oddball' (Halo series) spin-off with Little Sisters.

After seeing "Incinerate 3 = Flamethrower." I hope each plasmid gets an extreme upgrade and a couple plasmids get condensed (wish list below).

1. Winter Blast 3 = Build a block of ice for temporary shielding.
2. Telekinesis 3 = 'Sonic Boom' plasmid is condensed here.
--> Telekinesis 2 = Lift heavier objects.
3. Teleportation 3 = Go through walls.
4. Electro Bolt 3 = Acts as a flashbang grenade.
--> Electro Bolt 2 = Can attack multiple enemies on-screen (up to x).
5. Enrage 3 = 'Hypnotize BD' plasmid is condensed here.
--> Enrage 2 = Slowly drains health.
6. Cyclone Trap 3 = Creates vortex acting like the black hole attack from The Darkness (requires full eve bar).
--> Cyclone Trap 2 = Able to use plasmid combos with 'Incinerate' and 'Electro Bolt' (as seen in 9 minute walkthrough).

And then while we're at it, lets just get rid of the 'Swarm' plasmid (so ridiculous) and the new 'Geyser Trap' plasmid as seen in the multiplayer trailer (redundant because 'Cyclone Trap' is here). What do CAGs want to see changed/added to plasmids?

Yeah I hear ya. They could have left it out and I still would have paid $60 for a good new single player experience. Guess it doesn't really matter though. As long as the single player is good I'll be happy. The multiplayer was never a factor in my purchasing decision for this game.

Worldwide Release Date: 9 Feb. '10

Chaingun v. golfclub... one more reason why multiplayer should of used prototype Big Daddies.

From watching the multiplayer trailer I think it looks like crap, hoping that Im proved wrong but it just looked kind of stupid to me and really unbalanced and frantic. That being said Im still buying this game day one for single player and I actually just received my promo Rapture record in the mail today which is cool. Im also hoping for a collectors edition release of some sort.

Just finished the original Bioshock and I have to say it's sequel looks like crap. The 1st game concludes itself so nicely, there isn't really room for a sequel to me. That, and the guy who created, wrote, and directed the 1st game isn't involved in any way. I'll wait for the reviews but it seems cheap to me that they're trying to turn a successful game into a franchise.

I think it's a neat idea that could work. It tips the balance from hunted to hunter. They really need to blow up Rapture in this one though.

That way in the third one, some crazy rich guy or gal with a new philosophy could setup a paradise-gone-wrong somewhere else - such as the sky (I'm thinking mountains), the snow (Antartica) or the sand (some random desert)

I haven't gotten confirmation... just checked and it says shipping soon. Still scheduled for tomorrow though.

Reviews have been high. I hope the multiplayer component is pretty fun.

Never been one for midnight releases but have tomorrow off so I'll be picking it up here in a few minutes. Doubt I'll ever touch multiplayer though

Since there is team play we should CAG up... maybe we can help each other get the trophies if nothing else.

After seeing all of these reviews I have to say that I will wait to buy this game. I played and beat Bioshock but to be honest I am not really interested in going back. I'll probably pick it up at $30.

Well having put a few hours into the game, the single player is decent. However, the multiplayer aspect is crap, and I'm saying this as a huge Bioshock fan. I'm really shocked that they would release multiplayer so shitty and Im guessing it was the reason for the initial delay to begin with. Glad I purchased the game for the single player onl. Although I had high hopes for the multiplayer, to me at least it's a serious letdown.

Very tempted to pick this up sooner than later (having played the first game 3 times), but might have to wait til birthday/price drop/tax monies.....

All the reviews make it seem like a great, if derivative game. MP can suck it. I couldn't care less.

Anything Allen Goode touches turns to shit. Glad to see confirmation of that in here. Hopefully he wont get put on any big projects anymore

comparing the 360 and PS3 versions side by side (on my own tv).. the PS3 versions colors are muted and look terrible compared to the 360.. which sucks because I really wanted to play through this on the PS3.

Just got my copy. Looking forward to returning to Rapture... hopefully can get in some time tonight!

EDIT - Can't speak directly to the comparisons, but based on some shots I just checked out, the 360 version definitely looks more vibrant color wise. However, the PS3 version appears much more sharp to my eyes. So, take what you will. It also depends on the shot... looks good on both to me.

I was checking here... http://www.pcgames.de/aid,704607/Bi...d-Playstation-3-Wer-gewinnt/PC/Bildergalerie/

Got...required HD install.....didn't do SP, only a quick MP - which is a bit different. Was "owned" by people with machine guns....you don't start off with one. That's all of my spoiler/initial impression.
Well... if anyone doesn't want their PS Home code from Amazon.. *cough cough*
If Amazon hooks me up with my preorder goodies I may be able to help you out.
