BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info
They don't offer it (yet).
Yea, I know, but I havn't requested any games with my 2 credits yet.
I've never played System shock ..but if i was a fan of Invisible War should it be safe to assume I will like BioShock?
I would have to say yes.
It's 5 pounds off - so it'll be 35 instead of 40 (USD71 after coupon). Yikes!
Yikes to us, sure. But over there everything is more expensive. Our inflation hasn't caught up with the devaluation of the dollar yet.

Yay for our national deficit and voting irresponsible fucks into office!

Well considering there was just a preorder for it for, what $45, I guess we don't need the coupon after all. ;)
Sorry to ask this in the 360 thread, but is this a timed exclusive or an exclusive exclusive? I'm PS3-only and I can wait until next year if need be. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Its XBOX360 and PC exclusive!
I really hope the framerate is good.

I started playing Darkness, and really enjoying it at first, then as I got to the sewer levels the framerate got pretty shaky, and I began losing interest in it.

I worried with all the gorgeous graphics, the fps will suffer.
Framerate seemed solid at E3. Graphically, the game is superior to The Darkness. Actually, Bioshock is probably superior in most ways ;)
??? 20 hours for a game like this is long.
Is 20 hours confirmed? Everyone said God of War was 20 hours too, before it came out. It was barely 9.

I've always wondered how they measure playtime for games like this. Just seems like a number randomly pulled out of someone's ass. All I know is I usually take much longer than the estimates, so if it's truly 20 hours I'll be busy for quite a while.

If a review says 20 hours, it's more like 10-12, which is still good for a FPS.

Not to mention all the different ways of achieving your goals in this game, which adds to the replayabilty.

If it gives me at least Gears of War or Condemned length, I'll be fine. FPS games are hard to make 20 hours long unless there is a ton of fetch quests or backtracking. I mean it probably takes a developer hours just to create one detailed room yet it takes the player 5 seconds to walk across it.

Good points. If it's 10 hours at least, I'll be happy. Length isn't going to stop me from enjoying this gem.
What is the story on online multiplayer? Does it even have one?
I don't think so. it's not really meant to be played MP. they probably wanted to focus on the single player mode instead of having to worry about MP, which would be deserted in a month thanks to Halo 3.
I'm sure it will take me more then the average person. I like to take any games I play slow and look around.
I hear that. Condemned is supposed to be short, but I spend a lot of time in it looking at things. and this game will have an even better atmosphere than condemned :)

Well effectively you can play through it twice, or three times fully and wind up with a different experience/ending. All of that relies upon the Little sisters. But still, I'm sure I'll get my money's worth on this.

I went against every single thing I know and believe about retail, buying games and being a CAG.. sucked it up and went in to Gamestop and put $10 down on Bioshock LE. I can't pass the LE up. I've been dying for Bioshock for over a year now.. might as well go all out.

I'm sure it will take me more then the average person. I like to take any games I play slow and look around.
You and me both. That's why I never finish the GTA or Spiderman games. Darkness took me a while. Deus Ex took me over a week because I just went everywhere.

Don't get me started about Oblivion. I've played 40 hours and still haven't done the very, very first thing (take the necklace to Geoffrey). I may have on the 360 version, but now I'm playing through it on the PS3 and I haven't done anything except level up!
That's surprising, since usually, those UK mags and websites ALWAYS underrate games, mainly to make themselves look more critical and to get more attention. I've been saying since BioShock's GI cover debut that it was going to be Game of Whatever Year It's Released, and it looks like it's on its way.
For once, we agree on something.
The CE looks fucking sweet:

holy crap that's a sweet case. I thought it was going to be a standard package, kinda like Prey. I'm glad I have the CE preordered. I might not even open it!

I love how this guy uses "apparently" and "appears" in that article, like this stuff is new information.

Rumored to narrowly miss the seventy dollar price tag, the Collector's Edition of Bioshock appears to include a Big Daddy figurine. In March of 2007, 2K Games asked gamers what they wanted packed in. Apparently, the Big Daddy won out.

We already know it's $69.99. We know it includes a Big Daddy figurine. They announced that when the contest was over earlier this year. UK people *shakes head*

Anyone else not really interested enough in this to get it at launch? I mean it looks great, the plot sounds awesome, and the gameplay seems really sweet but theres something about it that makes me feel like just waiting for a price drop, even if it'll take a year.

Hmmm... you pretty much named the three things that will make me (and a lot of others) pick up almost any game at launch if it:

1. Looks great;
2. Has an awesome plot; and
3. Has sweet gameplay.

I'll be buying Bioshock on day 1 for sure. :D

Word up. Nice point.

If it's a game that you feel will drop in value, just sell it early and pick it up in a later clearance. I also will be buying this on Day 1. Haven't paid full price for a game since Halo 2 and I feel Bioshock will also be worth every penny.

And bitching about not having any time to play it day 2.

If the playtime numbers are true it will be a rental for me. The pacing doesn't appear to be something that will convince me to play through multiple times, and it kills me to pay ~60 for a 10 hour game when I can save that ~60 for 40+ in mass effect or AC.

I hope I'm wrong, but there is just so much buzz that it scares me a bit.

I'll be surprised if the playtime is realistically higher than 10 hours, but I have to get this game day one (if I can afford it) I hope someone finds a cheap way to preorder it.
And bitching about not having any time to play it day 2.
True. I need to finish Zelda before starting Bioshock (and this is assuming that my console comes back from Microsoft in time) and there's not enough time to get caught up in both simultaneously.

NO online. Single player only.

I just saw the LE from the previous link, and it actually looks worth it. The whole cube shape is fucking sweet, with the figurine actually inside the box and visible. I'd display it on my entertainment center big time. Oh well, if liongames comes through on time, all of my wanting of the LE go away.

Tell me what is gonna be awsome about this game. I havent really been paying attention to video games at all this summer (golfing). I turned on the 360 again and have nothing to play at least til madden comes out. My friends are all big on this game and i know nothing. Thanks.

Giving you a summary of what this game is about isn't enough to sell you on it. This game is a must buy mostly because of who is making it, and their past games. Just go look up reviews of System Shock 1 and 2. Then ask around for people that played System Shock's and ask them how memorable they were.

The premise of the game is just icing. The talent and ambition behind it are what will make it an amazing game.

I have to say that despite my disappointment at the CE being exclusive to GS, and a general dislike of the GS stores in my area, I am probably going to break down, and in a very un-CAG like manner pay full price for the stupid cube. Oh so pretty.

Hop on the marketplace and download the vids/trailers, that's what it's there for.
Comes out the week school starts again, my head sa gonna splode
Oh shit you're right. I think it comes out on the exact day my classes restart. What a bummer. Oh well, I survived the release of Gears of War + school last year.

I'm really torn about this game. Part of me thinks I should pick it up, then another part of me notices the HUGE backlog of games and remembers that I have Warhawk coming a week later. I wish/hope this game could be a "play for 20 - 30 minutes" type game because it seems that's all the time I have to play at a time anymore.

School. Ahhh, the good 'ol days. lol

I doubt this will be a pick up and play for 20 minutes game. It looks very involved.

What will happen first, people stop asking about Multi-player or people stop talking about MGS on the 360.

At least the developer has said that Bioshock 2 would have online play. It'll just be another three or four years of constant blathering about online play. By that time, everyone will be talking about Metal Gear Solid 5 on the 360.

I second that... but still... I find myself playing R6:Vegas online for hours at a time (but they're 20 minute matches I tell myself). I'm sure I can make time for it.

I'll be getting this day one also. Bad this is my 360 is dead. My coffin won't be here until Wednesday, so by the time I get it back Halo 3 will nearly be out.

yeah, i wasn't really expecting to get this game, but now im sold on it. probably heading to GS to get the LE too.
Comes out the week school starts again, my head sa gonna splode
Not only does this game come out on my day off (street dated titles ftw), it also comes out a full week before my classes start.

Hooray!
