BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info
Wait, so there's actually an option on the 360 version to 'maximize' the framerate??? Please tell me you are kidding...
I haven't seen such an option but the framerate runs smooth. I was in a battle last night with like 6 mobs plus a big daddy and no slowdown happened what so ever. My problems came whenever I saved my game
I can't believe people still think you need to pre-order a videogame.
You don't have to PO a Game but you DO have to pre order certain LE copies of games ;)
I can't believe people still think you need to pre-order a videogame.
Hmm, your from Cali, you'll pry get tons of copies of this game. I didn't PO GOW and I was DAMN LUCKY to get a copy. So I'm pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about. Maybe it's like that where you are from but not in the great state of Nebraska.
How hard do you think this game will be to come by on day 1 without a pre-order? I'm going to be at Best Buy when they open as I hope to get it there with a price match from CC's ad.

Edit: I had a bad experience with Gears of War, that was a pain in the ass to get but I finally got it late nite on day 1 release.
In theory, you could order it Tuesday morning for an in-store pickup, then just do the PM on the backside when you pick it up. That would be assuming they have it up Tuesday morning for order on BB.com .
:bomb:

I want it now damnit! Is you avatar a Bioshock acheivement?
Yes.
How long?
Not sure. It felt like a full experience, if that means anything to you.
Okay so anyone who has the game or has been spoiled on a whole ton of the game, can you guys answer me this honest question?

Okay I've been spoiled on a few things, namely (spoilers):

Becoming a Big Daddy
Killing Atlas

How badly have I been spoiled?
Not enough to ruin it, in my opinion. The story of BioShock seems to be more on what the gamer brings to the table, or at least what they take from the game.

OK you dont have the game so shhhhhhh. Yes there is an option on the 360 to do this and it helps
Yes.

Thanks man, lol been refreshing this page to see if anyone would reply to me, but glad to hear it seriously, been waiting for this game for ages and want to be as cautious as possible from now on to keep myself away from any more spoilers.

I'm just having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that there's an option to improve the framerate on a console game...the only thing i can think of is that its not necessarily the actual framerate but an element of the game?

*mind boggling*...

*Edit: feel free to PM me an explaination of all of this. It would be much appreciated :)

Ken Levine: the actual game lets you disable vsync if you like, but it's on by default.

The 360 and PC versions of the game enable you to disable vsync, which will maximize framerate at the risk of screen tearing-- I don't know about the gameplay issues the poster is referring to, but I'm sure this is the option he means.
well that is the limited edition...
Ok......Thats' the version most people are trying to Pre Order now.....

Before the demo, I told myself "I can wait a few months for this." And then I go pay off a preorder during work tonight. I feel dirty, but a good dirty, like a pig cooling off in some mud.

Alas, I only have a week to beat this before Prime 3 and Blue Dragon hit...

I'm screwed. I didn't get the Historian achievement when I beat the game, so it's going to take forever to go through every area again.

I don't think people should feel dirty paying full price for this (or 48.88 price matching at BestBuy). After-all, a game like this only comes around every so often.
Almost 20 hours.
so, this 20ish hrs is only one time through? to two... cause i want the all achievements... or at lease as much as i can get

and congrats on beating the game :applause: :applause: :applause:

Ok, so...I played the demo today.
I liked it. I wasn't like OMFG NEED BUY NOW!, buts thats mostly because I really sucked at it :D
Anyway, I'm going to see if I can pre-order the LE by chance today.

Gamespot is DEFINITELY giving this a low score, not because it's not a great game, or a game they'd like, but because no way is GameSpot going to let this game get away with being the best reviewed game in history.
Thanks, jerk.
My fault I shouldn't have said that....in my defense there so many holy shit moments in this game you will be turned upside down ;)

The demo didn't really appeal to me. I played it through but just quit when I died. I'm not saying its not a great game but meh doesn't look like I'm picking it up.

I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game I want this game.

I'm totally going to empty my wallet on this game. Goddamnitt, I'm too damn poor to buy all these amazing brand new games.

8.7 -- "no online multiplayer, enemy bodies twitch too much on the ground after you kill them, my bulk order of cheetos didn't arrive today and I'm in a horrible mood"

Yes let's please keep any spoilers to a minimum if possible. I was perusing the GameFAQs BioShock forums and they are filled with posts like, "How many of you had the game spoiled but still don't mind?" Seems like jerkoffs are writing them directly in the subject line. I'm avoiding that forum like the plague, I don't care how much help I might need.

I'm about 5-10 hours in, and I can safely say that I haven't needed to check one FAQ so far. The map in this game is really well done, telling you where you've gone and where you haven't and if you get stuck, there's a hint button that tells you what your next step should be.

This is honestly the sort of navigation a metroid game should have.

I need a little help with this part in the game:

How do you defeat the first Big Daddy you come across? First few times i could only get his health down about 1/3 of the way.

The only question I have to those that have played it (and maybe you should respond with spoiler tags):

Is the beginning of the game exactly like the demo? Or was the demo sort of truncated? I am specifically wondering if it actually gives you a reason to pick up a strange hypo needle and jab it in your arm in the full game. I find it so odd in the demo they aim for so much realism and hit so many things right, however just walking up to a needle and jabbing it in your arm without any motivation is a bit silly.

Keep in mind that in the demo the character is guided by the guy on the shortwave radio.

FINALLY downloaded it.

I only played the demo for about 15 minutes (didn't want to ruin too much before Tuesday) but the graphics were the most incredible thing I've ever seen from any game.

The only difference is that they give you more things in the demo. You don't get the fire ability that early, and I didn't find the shotgun or machine gun until the second level. Also, there are no bots to hack. I'm sure this was done to give people more of an idea of what the game was about, but you leave the first level with only the electric power and the handgun.

As for the story, its the exact same sequence, needle and all.

I have a feeling that happened to me, and as soon as I saw it I closed the tab. Hopefully what I read was incorrect, or hopefully I'll forget it by the time I get to the end.

My mom is gonna pricematch this at BB for me on tuesday because I'm gonna be on a trip. So what if I can't play it until next tuesday, but atleast I'll get 10 bux off.

Damn I want this so bad
Another reason why I keep giving Amazon money. $49.99, no tax (except for a few states) and free shipping, that's a deal on release.
We've seen a few releases at $49.99 this year...would be great if more online retailers released the games at $49.99 where they should be ;)
