BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info
Didn't read the spoilers, but just got the demo downloaded. Methinks I will wait until later this morning to actually play the demo.
I FINALLY got around to playing the demo last night. I now will be picking it up tuesday my plan before the demo was to just rent it a few times (free rentals) and try to squeeze through it. GREAT demo and looks like a awesome game! :bouncy:

love how he says wait on the superior ps3 version heh. Is this game even slated to come out on the PS3 right now?

I was ready to shell out my 50$ for it, but then I started thinking. What was the last single player game I went back and played multiple times? Grand Theft Auto. Bleh, yeah I'm just realizing as great as some games have been (Gears of War, Half Life 1/2, System Shock, The Darkness, etc..) it's never the single player that ultimately 'hooks' me to the game, always the multiplayer. The lack of any MP marks this as simply a rental for me, not to discredit the game any, I'm still looking forward to it big time.

I'm about 10 hours into the game so far and I have to say I'm absolutely loving it. As a matter of fact, I'm wasting time here by posting about it while I could be playing it.
Yes you can change frame rates but I haven't played with it yet because it runs smooth for me.

To get the maximum experience, do NOT read any spoiler tags or figure out what the achievements are (secret or regular).

I'm planning on buying this at Best Buy tomorrow. I want to price match it and I have a bunch of reward zone coupons. Does anyone know if they accept Circuit City Coupons? I have a ten off $50 coupon for cc and I really have no desire to go there. If they take that coupon I can get BioShock for $5 (PM $50 - $10 Coupon - $35 in reward zone coupons =$5 (fingers crossed!))

I've never done a price match before, but would like to buy this from Best Buy with Reward Zone points to help knock down the price. What can I do? I want the PC version, BTW, and I see Circuit City has it for $39.99, so can I print that website out and bring it to Best Buy tomorrow?

Yep, print out from their website should work, or grab a copy of the CC flyer for this week as I assume it's in their as well.

They won't let you combine offers. So I think you're stuck with paying $15.

Thanks....Just thought I'd try. ;)

The person that said multiplayer hooks them...Thats true for most Fps's because they dont concentrate fully on the single player. Non of the single players are very fun imo unless 1. Its Halo or 2. It has co-op. This game is well worth whatever price you pay..In my case $30

I too will be price matching this at BB and using my reward zone money. It'll be $45 after all is said and done. Not bad for what is looking to be the game of the year.

I went from barely interested to full fledge Bioshock fanboy in 2 weeks. Amazing what a 15 minute demo can do for a great game.

Does anyone know if Walmart has these in the back already? I called yesterday asking if I can pick up Bioshock for 360 at midnight today and the employees were clueless....thanks
Well I just finished....19 hours or so. I got 40/50 achievements. Some of the achievements are hard
Awesome, I'm about 10 hours or so in right now.

I'm currently at:
The part where they are killing the trees and you have to find the items before you can make the cure.

Am I at about the half way point here? I'm hoping to finish it up tonight. I won't get all that many achievements on my first play, but I'm definitely going to play give this more than one run-through.

wal-mart never has a clue.

Almost all stores have them in the back right now I'm sure.

Is Gamespot always this late with reviews? I'm amazed they don't have one up yet given most of the other big sites had there's up last week.
I somehow managed to get Gamefly to ship this to me. So lucky. WOooOH!
Same here, can't wait till it gets to me. Hopefully I'll be playing it by wed.

Yea you are just about half way through. The story get interesting from there. You cant really tell how far you are until you meet ryan. Then you'll know the end is coming

LOL. After vowing never to look at GameFAQs due to douches posting spoilers in topics, I just read a game ending spoiler. Avoid those forums!

Though I don't really feel spoiled. It's kinda like telling someone who never saw Star Wars that Vader is Luke's father. They never seen it so they don't know who the characters are or how much of an impact that tidbit has.

If you didn't realize Ryan was going to play a major part in the game after playing the demo, let me spoil you about this other super-secret enemy. Its this big thing in a diving suit, sometimes referred to as a Big Daddy.

Atlas
and not Ryan..

The first bad review for Bioshock

http://www.sonydefenseforce.com/?p=83#comments

After many months of anticipation I finally got my copy of Bioshock and played through it over the past few days. There are many things to like about Bioshock such as the graphics (not animation), parts of the story and the water effects. That’s about where the good stuff ends.

First let me say how excited I was for the game after playing the demo on the 360. While the animation seemed stiff and you could tell the 360 was being pushed too hard it still looked like it had a lot of potential. So imagine my disappointment when I got the final version only to find none of the animation hitches, shooting glitches and AI was cleaned up. I also wonder how much better the graphics would’ve been had they not been compressed to fit on a DVD. Now I do not fault the developers for this, they only had so much system power to work with so maybe this will all be addressed with the PS3 version when it comes out.

To conclude, let this game cook in the oven just a little bit longer and wait for the superior PS3 version. Cleaned up textures, animations, AI, extra weapons, Home space, standard HDD and Blu-ray will make this flawed game into a perfect gem.

SDF Score: 5/10

LOL....... I like the PS3 and I support it fully, and I can see somone giving bioshock that low of a score on certain elements........ but GODDAMN...... just read that damn thing........ it's such a retarded review........

Found this on NeoGaf:

"Go to http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/busted/ and, later this week, enter your info if you have received a broken figurine. We will ship you a pre-paid box to send your damaged Big Daddy back to us. And since it will take some time to get your new Big Daddy to you, will will be shipping you a printed BioShock art book to help tide you over until your Big Daddy is back to you."

...free art book!:bouncy:

If you thought I spoiled it by saying when you meet Ryan then wow. No I ment ryan because that is the climax of the game. I didnt say anything else and if you couldnt figure out that you would meet ryan then wow

Shit. That sounds like good enough reason to go FIND a broken figure. Even though it's probably just the free one online, at least it's printed out.

Damn, looks like I'm going to have to make sure my figure is broken...
Damn, looks like I'm going to have to make sure my figure is broken...
Hell yes, I'm off to call EB and make sure mine is shaken frequently.

All I know is I'm pissed that I walked in here and you guys fucking spoiled the game.

Seriously, fuck YOU.

Obviously
I thought you'd meet Ryan, but COME ON, nobody knew for sure you would. It was quite possible that Ryan was dead.

It's not that hard to post fucking spoiler tags, especially when you're playing a game before it's release date.

Assholes.

After the demo I was talkling with my brother for a while about whether or not he might be alive and how cool it would be to play the game and find out. I was DEFINITELY looking forward to finding out about Ryan MYSELF.

And if someone complains about a spoiler, just fucking spoil tag your original post and don't fucking say it again.

Seriously, a bit of fucking consideration for other people and this wouldn't be a problem in the first place.

Hell, I am going to get one, and "accidently" chip one section of the valve off.

because that hasn't been posted two times in this thread, less than a page ago.

Yay! It looks like Gamefly is already sending out copies of this game. I should receive it on Wednesday. :D

Spoiler tags are a definite must since the plot in this game takes center stage. But PyroGamer,
how do you know we actually meet Ryan? I was looking over the post and the guy just says he plays a big part in the game. He doesn't say you meet him. I don't even know who this Ryan character is, I never played the demo.

Why do I have a feeling the small percentage of broken figures will turn into 100% broken figures. I could definitely see people breaking their perfect figures to get a replacement AND the art book.

Thanks for the info. Added to OP.

And then you all put Irrational Games out of business :p

Yeah, even I have been considering sending them a melted mass of plastic and asking for a replacement.

But considering they're an indipendent dev with enormous talent, they're not the type of people I'd like to screw over :D

I'm still trying to figure out why it's not included in Gamerankings' or Metacritic's overall scores.

I dont know...You can kind of tell "he" is alive. I mean he is talking to you over the radio through out the game. Its not a spoiler. PLus who said anything about which characters are which. Believe me. I didnt spoil anything. If you think I did you're insane. Just wait till you play. Theres something that will surprise you a lot more. You find out hes alive within the first 30 minutes
I still can't believe how mad people were at GS over Zelda. 8.8. Get over it. It's a score. If you like it who the fuck cares. Scored higher than what it deserved if you ask me.

Back on OT. Since GS changed their ratings to only whole numbers and .5s, I predict a 9.0 and the internet will catch on fire from the "outrage". In reality, it probably would've been a 9.3. A slim chance for a 9.5, with no chance for a 10/10.
Winnar is me.

Hmm.
If you're the kind of player who just wants yet another action-packed shooter, BioShock probably isn't for you. Its weak link is its unsatisfying no-skill-required combat, which might aim this one just over the head of the average Halo fan.
He needs to re-word that. He's trying to say it's going to be above Halo players' heads, but it sounds like he disses the combat...which I think is exactly the opposite of what he was trying to say.

Question for those who have been playing it/beaten it.

Do you just get stupid powerful at the end of the game? Also, is there an option to go through whatever chapter you want with the powers you've already gained? I would love to just fuck around owning kids after I beat the game with all my powers

Also in your response, please don't give me any spoilers as I haven't played it besides the demo.
