No. You do end the game with more health and Eve than what you started, of course, but the enemies progressively in strength with you.
The second question:
Nothing like that, but before the final moments of the game, you can go back through previous levels and wander around.
Question for those who have been playing it/beaten it.
Do you just get stupid powerful at the end of the game? Also, is there an option to go through whatever chapter you want with the powers you've already gained? I would love to just around owning kids after I beat the game with all my powers
Also in your response, please don't give me any spoilers as I haven't played it besides the demo.

omg 9.0 worst gaem evar!
I like how it gets points taken off for "Annoying hitches.....only seems to start happening after playing the game for several hours."
It gets points deducted because the gamespot's reviewers 360 is having fits???!?

LOL! Exactly what I was thinking. Traded in a couple of games and DVDs today for this. I cannot wait!
By giving it a 9.0 they effectively removed it (most likely) of being the best game of all time. However, it also made it alot more comfortable in being in the top ten games of all time (according to Gamerankings anyways). I thought for sure this game would score a 8.5 knowing Jeff but I don't think he wanted to see Twilight Princess reactions all over again.
Nothing will ever top the 8.8 outrage.

I wish I was Jeff.
Seriously, though, I can't see less than a 9 for this game. And actually, the more I think about it, the more riddiculous it is TP didn't get a 9. I mean, look at the games they give 9's: TP and BioShock are clearly superior to half of the stuff there.
He needs to re-word that. He's trying to say it's going to be above Halo players' heads, but it sounds like he disses the combat...which I think is exactly the opposite of what he was trying to say.
Yes he is contradicting himself. Since when does halo have tactical elements(aside from teamwork and such)? We all know much of halo's popularity is in it's small learning curve and ease of use, so how would combat that makes you think be a bad thing...
Personally I don't read gamespot, or care about scores for that matter, but waiting until the last minute and making little babbling comments like that one just screams "I did it for attention after seeing what everyone else said."
I would love to see all the major sites do what EGM does (even though i hate them for the most part) and have 3 reviewers.
Ugh. Don't get me started on EGM.
Reviews should be OBJECTIVE REVIEWS ON THE QUALITY OF THE GAME, EGM gives three random people's OPINIONS.
Reviews =/= Opinions, and they shouldn't be opinions.
Reviews should be someone's best effort to accurately gauge the OBJECTIVE QUALITY of the game.

Oh i know. Thats why i said i don't care for EGM's reviews but i do like the fact that 3 people are reviewing the game. People can be sold or turned off by a single review so it would be nice to see 3 people's 'impressions' of a game instead of 1.
Did I call a 9 earlier? That's what I was guessing. I generally trust their reviews more than other sites'.
EGM's reviews are ing horrible (as is the magazine itself, but that's another story). They spend half of their little teensy block of text arguing with what the previous reviewer just said, then throw in two random facts about how it plays, and that's it.
objective reviews are not really possible because people's taste are subjective. it's like asking for objective reviews on music, while you have technical skill to be objective about, how do you measure originality or if it's enjoyable.

Hence the suggestion of 3 reviewers...giving readers 2 extra opinions.

I'm not sure if it's a good or a bad thing, but having 3 reviewers also release's the reviewers inhibitions. They really say whatever they want when they are reviewing with a couple other people.

It may not be possible, but you can get pretty damn close: and it's a reviewer's job (whether or not he ignores it and writes a terrible review) to get as close to it as he can.

I like that though, because as much as the number lie on the EGM reviews, hearing what they have to saw helps me with my decision(s). If 2 of the reviewers mention something that catches my eye (in lets say a positive way) than i will likely get the game even if the score is low. Or vice versa.
Reviews just shouldn't have a number rating. I buy games that get rated poorly all the time, and end up enjoying them because the write up in the reivews let me know that while the reviewer didn't like it, I would.
Maxim = worst game reviews ever.
I think they rated Metallica's St. Anger album a 5/5, so their crapiness is not limited to games

Publications have tried it in the past, and people just don't like it. I know most of the games media would prefer to have scoreless reviews, but it will never happen.

It works if the writing can hold up on its own. The only publication I know of that tried this was CGW before it turned into GFW, and it just turned the magazine into total crap. The writing just wasn't nearly good enough to hold up, and it was often hard to figure out if the reviewer liked the game or not.
I don't think anyone's really discussing the score as much as discussing the state of game reviews in general, which really should be another thread.
This is true. I shouldn't take this thread off-topic more than it already has.
Anyways, still on the fence about the game. Played through the demo 2x, terrifying throughout both times. IDK if I can handle 20 hours in Rapture and remain sane.

Thats probably one of the best ways to explaing how the story is.

You should force yourself to play Condemned. Once you get through that, the game will cure you of having any fear of playing scary games (since they all pale in comparison).
I can't wait until tomorrow. I've been counting the days for weeks now. I'm going to be at Gamestop the moment they open so I can grab the game then haul ass back home to play it. Thank god I don't have work for the next two days.
Just got back from the midnight release. There were 80-100 people in line..that sucked.
Mostly groups buying one copy though. Still kinda shocked me that so many people were waiting in line for what I thought was a less-than-mainstream title.

80-100? Those are Madden/Halo caliber launch numbers right there... So no one else feels like a huge tool showing up at opening for this? Edit: I should add, I'm going to be outside my Gamestop at 10:00am tomorrow.
sweet, just called my wal mart and found out they are gonna be selling this at midnight tonight. i think im gonna go down there and try to pm the CC 50 $ deal

QUOTE FOR ING EMPHASIS~!
Finally, at least one other person on the interweb gets it. Now if it was only possible to somehow beat this info into the likes of all the other idiots.
Kinda wish I had actually gone out and preordered the CE, but being broke as all hell, I'll have to contend with getting it from gamefly (and hitting the "keep it" button after it hits $39.99 or lower ).
Umm. I don't see how reviews CAN'T be opinions. Inherently, saying "Game X has great art design" or "this game has great sound" are opinionative statements. Yet, those statement seems to be about the objective quality of the game. It's impossible if you ask me.
Also, in the end...it's your opinion that matters. Other opinions may shape your view of the game, but ultimately its your call.
I do agree though that EGM/1up sucks balls. I only listen to their podcasts and occasionally watch the 1up show.
