Bit of help finding a used (fat) PS2?

Okay, so for the past few months, I've been checking Craigslist daily for a good deal on a used "fat" PS2. Basically, I was looking for one that would come with two controllers, a memory card, and maybe a network adapter. The price, depending on what was included, would've ranged from $45 - $70. Anyway, after lack of luck with ten sellers (they stopped contacting me halfway through deals/sold them) and emailing over 30 people, I've decided it'd be best to look elsewhere. =|

Now, Gamestop/GameCrazy both sell the system for $80 with one controller. Thing is, that's a rip-off compared to the price of a NEW SLIM PS2, which would be less than $100 if I wanted to get it from Best Buy. However, I'm looking for the fat version.

Any ideas where I should look? I'm not exactly a fan of Ebay, but if anyone here's got a good deal, I'm all ears. I'm open to meeting with someone from the Bay Area to buy the system as well. Thanks in advance! :)

My best bet would be to look for one on ebay, i know u said ur not a fan but thats the best place i can think off. You migth also want to try a small local video game shop, i've seen them on local shops from 50-60 with all hook ups one controller and choice of a game

GS's are about all we've got around here. There's a PlayNTrade a few miles from here, but I have no idea what the price is on their PS2's (probably still $80) and they're closed today, so I wouldn't be able to check.

The 'Fat' PS2 can accept a hard drive. The OP might still be playing Final Fantasy 11 on it, and wants to replace their aging unit.

You know that you can do a search on eBay by distance to you. If you wanted to pick one up, just search that way. You might find one really close.

I bought from an ebay auction a fat PS2 with one controller (I think it's a PS1 controller, though), Sony memory card, network/hdd adapter and two games (Madden '07 and Socom 3) for $82 shipped. That wasn't quite in your price range nor the exact configuration, but it was kind of close. I was happy with the deal, anyway. You could probably do better if you put more effort into it, but that was close enough for me, especially since I'll be selling my slim now and that will more than cover the cost.

As for why I'd want to replace a slim with a fat, the fat PS2 is better IMHO. For one I don't like the cheap feel and questionable design of the slim. For example, the hard to see power and reset buttons and the controller ports being close to the bottom with the memory card slots sandwiched right on top, which makes it a nuisance to swap controllers and dance pads on port 1 (or any port with a memory card above it). Also I really wanted the network adapter in order to install a hard drive. Really the HD option was the main reason, but getting the better design of the fat PS2 is a bonus too.

Turns out Play N Trade doesn't sell fat PS2s anymore. =|

And for you guys wondering, I am looking to put a HD inside of the system. Means faster loading times for me, as well as no need to change discs whenever I want to switch games. (But I believe I'm not supposed to be talking about this, am I? =P)

EDIT: Nevermind, managed to finally seal a deal on Craigslist. Thanks for the suggestions though, everyone!
