All my local Best Buys where sold out by 7:00am. I was looking into building one, then I seen the ad for $199.99, kind of hard to beat that price even if it is a Emachine with Intel celeron processor.

At that price you can't lose. No doubt about it, that machine will crap out on you...but you'll get your $200 bucks worth.

I have had less problems with a cheap emachine vs. my expensive Dell , and Sony.

Plus Gateway bought them so quality should have gone up. I always recommend them to people unless they are looking for a gaming PC (usually the models aren't geared with higher end graphics cards and such).

I owned an emachine for maybe 6 months before it crapped out on me about 4 years ago. Now I have a dell and I love it.

Think of it as a backup system while you save up to build an uber system. Once you build your first system successfully you will never go back.

Hell no. It's more trouble than it's worth. Places like IbuyPower are the even cheaper than building sometimes and you don't have to do shit.

....though I'll probably still build my next comp. :(

I got one today and let me just say that Best Buy was insane. I got there at like 4:30 and there was already like 150-200 people in line. I was pretty much resigned to the fact that I would not get one. Anyway I wound up being like 1 of the last 5 to get 1. A bonus was they opened the doors at 5:30 and then had seperate lines for all the computer deals. I think that for 250$ you can not beat that deal for the computer that you are getting. I don't really play games on my computer just never been my thing so I don't care about building a super computer. It is a definite upgrade from my last computer that I bought about 5 years ago. Even if it does die for 250 that is worth the risk. There were about a 100 people waiting to get one when I left and they were wating for the 11:00 deadline when they would start selling them if people with the guarentee sheets did not claim them. A lot of people went for the notebook for 499 as well. i wanted the mp3 player but I think everybody wanted one and if you were not in the first 100 then you were just screwed.

I always end up building my same computers. Although in some cases you can't compete with the price, at least you know what you put in it :)

Plus I run a dual xeon for my desktop, so it would probably be more expensive to buy it from somewhere like DELL.
Emachine is just any old computer? Or a certain brand? I might just pick that term up.
It is a budget computer company.

I built my own pc and love it but I am a big pc gamer. For the casual pc user who really just wants to surf the web or burn music then maybe emachines would be okay. I would never spend the money on one though. Well, maybe for that price that BB had them for. Would make a great gift.

I got one. I'm on it now. Not really into PC gaming so I guess it's good for the price and what I'll use it for.

It was kind funny cause I went there with no intention of buying one. I wanted the $12..99 24 Season 1 Box set. My buddy told me it was on sale.

So I get some CD's and crap and I'm standing in line looking at the circular for about 30min when the guy comes on the intercom and says they have more of the $199 computer. So I think $199 you can't go wrong. So I grab a employee tell her I wanted one. So she says I have to go to that dept and stand on line. So I say I'm on line and have been online for over 30min. I said if I stand on that line to get a PC and then don't don't get one I'm gonna be pissed. So she signals to a guy in that dept and then points to me, I go stand on line for another 20 mins and get my PC. They even offered to carry out to my car.

I didn't get in on the deal, but my emachines PC has performed flawlessly for almost a year now. I have never had a single problem, ever. Can't say the same for my previous computers, from Dell and Compaq.

I own an Emachines laptop myself and I love it. I was wary of buying one because I had heard the horror stories about them when I used to work at Best Buy. The funny thing is I was comparing the components (harddrive, CDRW drive, builtin wireless card, etc.) in the Emachines laptop I bought and another Compaq laptop when I was looking at buying one and most of them were not only the same manufacturer but they were the exact same model. That and the fact that I had heard that they aren't having nearly as many problems with their products anymore made me buy my laptop.

As far as that $200 computer, I was actually thinking of buying it just to gut it for parts. Decided against it though cause I am completely broke right now.
