Looks like the PS4 controllers at gamestop will be $38 on Thursday, for those who want to save another 2 bucks (excludes green camo).

Sorry if this has been asked/posted before, but does anyone think the Mario and Rabbids game is going to be extremely hard to get at Walmart? I won’t be able to shop until after 1030 pm that night, something tells me there’s no way in hell im getting it lol
I don't that game is even popular compared to other switch games so you I think you should get it that night. I've shopped at Wal-Mart on bf numerous times and their game stock is plenty. I'm also getting that game too lol

Pro-tip for Walmart hours after the initial rush: keep an eye out for carts where employees throw the games people have abandoned around the store. You can usually find what you want in one of those if you can't find it anywhere else.

Well, for my brother, they asked me to find him something in the $800 range that does a good job with Windows Ink, as he wants something he can draw on. It's hard to beat some of the Surface Pro 4 deals you might find online in that price range, but then again, my dad kinda has blown off my recommendations and his budget and is looking at stuff that's going to cost him north of $1,000 by the end, haha.

My brother-in-law just kind of went vague as can be with "I want a new laptop sometime," and gave me no budget or a decent use case to go off of. I ended up seeing a decent ASUS Vivobook Flip (or is it Zenbook Flip? I can't remember the insane number of model names that get thrown around, haha). I think Micro Center had it at $700 for a solid 2-in-1 that did the inking (pen sold separately), while giving you 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD storage--if you are doing video editing, the HDD with more storage might help you a bit more than the smaller SSDs with great boot/load times, since video eats storage in a hurry. I did find that Dell you mentioned, it's $329 as a doorbuster. If you are fine with the non-convertible design, it's a great value device in that price range.

Around $600 is where I might be willing to recommend a single HP device: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-envy-x360-convertible-laptop-15z-touch-1za07av-1

That's a really unique device because it's the first to use the new AMD mobile hardware. It's a very power efficient chip, and it does much better on the GPU front than something running off the Intel graphics chips. It won't do anything crazy, but it can do some light gaming (mostly in the 720p range, but depends on the game). If you want a little bit of gaming on the go, it would be a notable upgrade over something based on a 2016 Intel chip with a near-useless iGPU. It's also a 4-core, 8-thread CPU, something that runs more like $750 in a Black Friday Intel laptop (vs. $600 here). But still, even on a good sale and as a great value, I find getting over the HP hump too great.

If you're not into pen support or a convertible design, you DO open yourself up to more performance. However, the leaked stuff from Best Buy isn't that deep at the moment, so it's a little tough to get a reference on exactly what you'd find.

One option: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-1tb-8gb-hybrid-hard-drive-black/5709801.p?skuId=5709801

That one will be $650 at Black Friday, and it can legitimately game, given the NVidia GPU inside. It also trades the U-class mobile CPU for a beefier HQ, so it'll do most everything with more oomph. However, you lose any chassis flexibility, as well as a touch display, and with the more-powerful internals, you might sag on battery life and have something heavier. To me, if you're wanting to do video editing, something like this (though overkill on the GPU because you didn't mention gaming) might be for you.
Storage is a plus. I've never used a touch/pen laptop. I could see some benefit to flip 2-in-1 or pen/touch screen. Like you said about the HP service. I'll look at your recommendations. Currently my pc is the game machine. The laptop for light gaming away from home either . I thought I put up Steam games some like Diablo III and torchlight 2 to play with friends. I was typing while tired. What a combination.

Hi, I'll add to this. I had an HP Pavillion tx1000 series about 10 years ago, the one with a swivel screen and touch screen. The thing failed in less than 2 years due to a motherboard design flaw so they could make the laptop thin (though it is still thick if compared to today's standards). The nVidia gfx on that was also to be blamed because they (nVidia) eventually lost a lawsuit. That was after I already sold the laptop, so no replacement laptop from me. HP customer service was awful and unhelpful throughout the experience. Yes, it was out of warranty, but that's how you lose customers for life.

Ever since then I have bought Thinkpad laptops for me and my close ones. I have a Thinkpad T410 that is 7.5 years old and still running its original HDD. But I also bought a T420 where the HDD died within 1 year (replaced by warranty) and motherboard died in 5 (bought a 'new' replacement from eBay - if you're into DIY, there are many guides for Thinkpads online and on YouTube). Since these Thinkpads are used by corporations, sometimes they have leftover new spareparts (to fulfill the corporations service turnaround times) and you can buy those 'new' old parts at a fraction of the cost versus going to the manufacturer. There aren't many, but enough to go around. Be very thorough with the eBay seller though. The less communicative sellers are generally more shady.

Overall, I bought 6 Thinkpads for my close ones and myself. Two had issues, including the one mentioned above and some of the fixes were done by the depot while in warranty. The major failure was Mobo failure in 5 years due some foam design flaw that ended up shorting the whole thing.

You can consider Lenovo Thinkpad if you want longevity. But avoid the entry level Thinkpad like the E-series (Edge) or SL or L. Those are not that good because those are dressed up Lenovo Ideapad. Not built for the professionals like Thinkpad is.

This is a resourceful link about used Thinkpads to familiarize yourself with the different model lines: http://ktgee.net/post/49423737148/thinkpad-guide.

If you want to buy new ones, look out at other deal websites where sometimes you will get 25-40% coupon codes depending on the time of the year (you'll probably end up paying $800-$1000 for entry level Intel Core i5 processors and some other upgrades and a lot more when you max out the options). I got the T420 above at $580ish because it came with DOS only (one of those rare moments for Thinkpads). I got a Windows license from my college's Dreamspark account back then (free OS :whistle2:D). Not too bad for a T-line at the year of release. Still cost much less than my stupid tx1000 even after factoring costs of Mobo replacement and all.

All the best and pay more to pay less later. That's my motto, for now.
Looking through your thinkpad guide. I don't mind DIY. The upgrading looks nice too. Looks rather reliable. How would I go about getting "new" old parts at the fraction of the cost? Just ebay? Thinkpads would be completely new to me.

Pro-tip for Walmart hours after the initial rush: keep an eye out for carts where employees throw the games people have abandoned around the store. You can usually find what you want in one of those if you can't find it anywhere else.
If the service desk isn't swamped you can check there too. All of those carts and found merchandise end up there for associates from that area to retrieve. On BF, they don't tend to make it up there as often. You would be surprised how many people decide last minute not to buy something, or leave their stuff behind once they see the lines. Everything that's found near the checkouts will end up at the service desk.

Looking at some routers, any thoughts? Here is what I've found so far bf:

-netgear nighthawk ac1900 router

-lynksis router ac1900 mu-mimo gb router

-netgear ac1200

-tp-link archer c8 ac1750 wireless dual band gb router

Never been wireless other than through the modem.

One pc, two laptops?, x360, x1.  CenturyLink 20Mb. That's what I have as of black friday (with some luck).

Damn. Disappointed this year. Nothing really good Nintendo wise. It's either Switch stuff or stuff I have. Only rebuy I'd do if I could would be for Super Mario Maker to have a back up copy in case something happens to mine (it's got a couple of minor scratches on it). And I don't have a PS4, so anything I'm interested in there is moot. But I am tempted by the $199 price tag though (for the 1 tb one).

Anyone with experience on routers?

Storage is a plus. I've never used a touch/pen laptop. I could see some benefit to flip 2-in-1 or pen/touch screen. Like you said about the HP service. I'll look at your recommendations. Currently my pc is the game machine. The laptop for light gaming away from home either . I thought I put up Steam games some like Diablo III and torchlight 2 to play with friends. I was typing while tired. What a combination.

I imagine what you use now for a laptop has a dGPU, because old Intel graphics won't run jack--the new ones barely do. In that case, you might look for something with a dGPU in a non-hybrid form factor, if you want something that you can play some occasional games on.

As for his DIY suggestions, I'd be a little wary. I only say this because if you haven't done a BYO desktop, a laptop might be more headache that you want to dive into first go. That, and many laptops these days start to solder on RAM and CPUs, so you're basically left with only the storage that can be self-upgraded. You might be able to look a laptop model up online to see how upgradeable it is, but in all honesty, you shouldn't need to do anything other than a storage swap (if you want to) on a modern laptop. Motherboards aren't dying left and right like they used to, nor are charging ports attached to them. You MIGHT want to up the RAM on something, if you find your self getting a budget device with 4 GB, but RAM prices are also out of control right now, so that would be a late-2018 project on a modern laptop (DDR4-based).

Lenovo does make some quality parts, but if you want hybrid, the Thinkpad won't do that. I don't even know if they do touch on those things, as I haven't looked them up in YEARS. They are quite the utilitarian machine line. Function over form for sure.

Not all that much so. You basically have two kinds of router experiences: They're fine and you never touch them or they're the worst thing ever and you want to hang yourself every couple of months.

I did some lengthy research about 2 years ago, and ended up finding that ASUS had some rather nice devices. I think my dad threw about $220 at one of their upper-tier routers, and while it was expensive, it throws out great range in a two-story house with a basement (the generic Comcast gateway wouldn't penetrate downstairs for crap).

If you are going WiFi-only, Ubiquiti does make some very nice devices as well. We replaced an old TrendNet (I think it was) with a Ubiquiti router for $100, and while it's not got Ethernet ports (beyond in the input), it's got awesome range, and my boss really liked the management software it uses.

I have the nighthawk and haven’t had any issues. We have a ton of connected devices also. I got mine on clearance at Walmart in the summer for $49. $89 is the lowest I’ve seen besides that.

Is the dualshock 4 redesign recent or did they do a cheaper model for black Friday? Got a silver one tonight, and all of the new stock the stores got in for black friday had the old style touchpad without the light bar slit.

They were better last year IMO. All those $10 PlayStation exclusives, Mortal Kombat XL edition for $20. Mad Max $10. Dragon Quest Heroes $10. I think they had the limited edition Lego Star Wars for $15 (unless i"m thinking of another retailer).
Mad Max & Dragon Quest Heroes were $8 at Target btw. GS had the Deluxe version of Battlefront for $9.99 iirc
But even under doorbusters it states online

Yep, you guys are correct, it.is a doorbusters thing, Kohls just confirmed it.

*I'm very good looking, and great with rice.*
Yea bf deals start today & bf doorbusters start Thursday. Weird that its not $199.99 or less yet..so I guess Kohl's is not a participating authorized PlayStation retailer of that enforced Sony PlayStation Black Friday week sale ? Have them price match other retailers that are a participating authorized PlayStation retailer like Target, Bed Bath Beyond, WM, BBY...etc https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/11/10/black-friday-2017-week-long-playstation-deals-revealed/

Looks like the PS4 controllers at gamestop will be $38 on Thursday, for those who want to save another 2 bucks (excludes green camo).
Will be $37.99 at Fry's if u want the green camo. Already ordered Crystal Blue from WM, will order Crystal from GS and green camo from Fry's...not interested in BBY's Crystal Red atm.

I got the Nighthawk ac1750 from BB black friday 2 years ago and it works great, good signal coverage through out the 3 floors house and outside the yard as well. It was around $89 bucks when I bought it. The AC1900 would be great at that price.

Looking at some of the budget headset that are going to be on sale. Out of Astro A10, Hyper Cloud Core Pro, etc. Which is the best one? I'll not to spend more than $60.

Anyone seen any deals for Quantum Break or Killer Instinct Definitive Edition? Didn't see them listed in the spreadsheets. Thanks.

Hey everyone,

Today during my stream I took the time to explain the spreadsheet and some of the issues you may face. Also, I give some of tips and personal speculation for this Black Friday season. Hopefully this helps someone out there.

If max concurrent users is the reason I can't see the menu items, preventing me from just making a copy to my own drive and not clogging up the active one; might I suggest just duplicating the document a few times?

A friend of mine went over to Meijer's and said it was terrible in regards to what they had for their Black Friday week sale video game wise. Just a bunch of old games for Wii U and for 3ds. Nothing even relatively new. X box and PS4 were better by a long shot. Only he doesn't have either of those.

So long story short, YMMV when it comes to those. Depending on what stock they have to get rid of.

I am going to leave a drop box link for you to be able to download it, and you can import it into google sheets and have a personal copy. Think that may be the best solution.

Do we know what the shipping costs will be like for Walmart?  Trying to decide if I should jump on best buy early access in the last few minutes or get a couple of games at Walmart, which are each a dollar cheaper.  Best Buy will have free shipping, unsure if Walmart will as well

Hi, here's my take on things. FYI, if you wanna buy new, go for it. The link I sent was for an overview guide. Buying used and upgrading can be cheaper if you are okay with the time needed to fix things. Or sometimes you get lucky with factory refurbished hardware at a sale.

But this is more for the normal laptop. If you want convertible, it's a whole different beast.

Why'd I go to all this knowledge about laptop, due to that d****ed tx1000. I felt like I wasted my dollars and I started to see if I could fix it myself. So I took the laptop apart, carefully, and I took pictures along the way. The easy part is taking things apart. The harder part is taking things apart without breaking anything. The hardest part is putting things back together as it was with the right screws at the right places. :)

Here is more info regarding laptop maintenance that I did on Thinkpad (non-convertible type):

1) Laptop breakdown can be found easily online on websites such as ifixit or Youtube videos. Lenovo's support website also have the HMM (hardware maintenance manual). I use a combination of all 3. Here's an example for a later model Thinkpad T450: http://www.ihowfix.com/lenovo-thinkpad-t450-disassembly-ram-ssd-hdd-upgrade-guide/

2) For upgrading laptop, it depends on the model. Like mentioned by Lil Frier, some models have soldered components for looks or to stay thin (processor, RAM, HDD). These types of laptops are not upgradable or serviceable and I stay away from those. On certain models, you can swap out processors of the same generation. RAM and HDD are generally upgradable. I'd recommend you to do Google the models and variants that you like to see if its processor or RAM is/are upgradable. If the model has been out a while, someone might have asked the same thing online.

3) Motherboards come in different format and flavors. I haven't bought any Thinkpad models past 2012, so this info might be slightly out of date. In the T420 and previously, there are those with discrete or integrated graphics, WWAN support, fingerprint reader, etc. It took a bit a of research on Lenovo.com to figure out what kind of motherboard was on my busted T420, and checking out eBay on the available new motherboard and whether it fits or not. The most important thing to notice is the graphic card portion because otherwise your existing heatsink won't fit. Not a big deal, you can buy a heatsink for sub $15-$20.

When I bought mine, I just searched for "Thinkpad T420 motherboard" and I filtered the results to view "new" items only. I looked at those postings, keeping a lookout to make sure the box and the anti-static bag (or whatever packaging) is still in-tact. I think I bought this time the other time: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Genuine-Lenovo-Thinkpad-T420-T420i-Intel-Motherboard-PN-04Y1933/222702090161?hash=item33da1437b1:g:mJAAAOSwB-1YzuqQ. This was very cheap. Some suppliers and Germany was selling at $120-$200. Sometimes, the pricing is negotiable.

It's not based in the US, I got it shipped from the UK. Of course I would chat with the seller first, asking about the motherboard, why he has some left over, etc. I only buy from those that are courteous, so that I know that they are genuinely trying to sell it instead of hiding something in that sale. And I'd look up the part number on Lenovo's site to figure out if it fits my need or not (discrete/integrated graphic, WWAN, etc.). WWAN stuff is more tricky, luckily I don't utilize it.

PM me if you wanna talk about it more.

Is it safe to assume Walmart, Target, and Best Buy will all go live Thursday at 12am or 1am? I've looked around and haven't seen a set time for any of the online black friday sales.
