Black Friday / Cyber Monday 2024

You're moving the goal post every where now and just committing safeties.

You linked a news story reporting on money laundering that just says what everyone knows: That there is money laundering in crypto. It does not assert, nevermind demonstrate, that bitcoin " literally exists for money laundering, human trafficking, and all sorts of other vices."

Marvel Rivals is currently at the center of a money laundering case and we all know that it's far from the only Live service game to get in trouble for it. That doesn't mean all, or even the majority of live service games exist as laundering schemes.

First, apologies for the continued off-topic, but this begs a response.

Move the goal post?

Let me ask you then -- what is the point of having a cryptocurrency? What is the real benefit? It's not connected to gold; frankly, it's not connected to anything other than its fictional "value" of NOT being connected to any governmental entity.

So what is the economic basis for the existence of a cryptocurrency? Why does it have any value? Why does anyone bother to attribute the value to the currency? It's literally not backed by anything, after all.

The value is in its untraceability. I'm an econ guy; there are countless econ papers (practical and academic) discussing/analyzing the data on this in great detail. It's why cryptocurrency is ripe for use in criminal activity and basically why it exists. (Alleged) studies suggesting the percentage of cryptocurrency used in crime are de minimis are all premised on data of an untraceable currency and only based on amounts actually prosecuted on by government agencies (i.e., these studies are all almost assuredly grossly under-counting the real funds at issue).

In short, stop fooling yourself into thinking otherwise. You're just buying into the billionaire narrative. No better way to hide assets and escape taxation than using a currency NO ONE can trace the origins of.

And on this, I'm not saying folks should feel bad or anything using bitcoin. I don't care. All I'm saying is that cryptocurrencies are by design made to avoid regulation and be outside the system, and what has been fueling their growth is pretty obvious ...

Okay, that's it. Back on-topic:

Target presumably will have Switch consoles for ~$230 on BF. That's a "deal" though I'm guessing most of us here are just waiting for Switch 2 at this point.

Who did it last year? I helped with it a couple of years ago, but would probably need to find last year's as a reference, if no one else wants to do it.
They've got one up over at Resetera.com put up by user "Darknight"

sales this year is pretty thin. Usually we would be getting massive sales going in to Nov. Where is the dual sense and psvr2 sale?

People not have enough bills to pay? I'm not worried about it.

Every year this happens, and every year there ends up being hundreds spent in Nov. and Dec. during flash sales that I didn't count on spending. Things happen fast, and you gotta be ready to pop. Last year was the first time we got $40 controller in a long time, for instance. Nintendo games always make their way in Walmart or Gamestops for $30-$35 for a week and then it's over, practically a B1G1 bogo.

Right now is the Criterion Collection 4K sale (50% off) and I'm heading to Barnes & Noble later. There are six UHDs I want and will perhaps cross a couple off the list.

Whether you believe in the usefulness or value of crypto/bitcoin as a currency or means for transactions is entirely separate from the "value" of holding a bitcoin being entirely a pyramid scheme.

Is that Nintendo ad everything they are doing, or just representative? No discount on peach showtime?

That's what Nintendo is offering pretty much retailer wide. There could be deals that are just on specific sites. And, I can't believe someone wants Princess Peach Showtime. Did you play the demo? Or is this for a little kid? Either way, if you want it you can get a complete used copy for $35 over on gamefly before tax/shipping. Used will come with the original box with it's art sheet pretty much perfect and any paperwork it had inside (which it probably didn't have any).

8 year old daughter who enjoys Balan Wonderworld. And if it’s that bad a game, it ought to be on sale.

No Pokemon Arceus, S/V, or even ancient Smash Bros that never goes on sale, guess I have to wait for whenever they're doing clearance of switch games in general on those when switch 2 drops

I disagree. Historically Dualsense controllers are under $50. I doubt they cost more to produce today as it's a four year old controller.
I’m skeptical it cost more also but in many countries the price has increased while $5 US it’s $10 in Australia. I can’t imagine myself they are more expensive to produce. Looking at their 20-F financial statement I was wondering if there was a clear cut answer, there was not, but I do see “(+) Improvement in hardware profitability” on page 16.

Best deal is the one I linked for $35 used. It's only been out a short while. I'd imagine it'll get liquidated off but not before the holidays are over. For an 8 year old, it'll probably be fine. It isn't really broken and the graphics are nice, but there's almost no challenge to be found and the levels are very short. IMO, Balan Wonderworld is a better game. Yes, I've played it. It's more creative with the outfits. You actually get to explore the levels as they are big enough to explore. It has a janky camera at times, but the actual core gameplay isn't that bad if you played PS1/Saturn/N64 3D platformers and still like them. The whole hub world garden where the gems you collect in the levels get converted over to building the massive playground for the creatures you save to play on was kind of cool. There's really next to nothing to do in peach except replay to find a few items in each level and try to do better on the timed minigames (which I found mostly a miss in the demo). I'd suggest Yoshi's Crafted World before this game, but I did only play the demo so maybe there's more to it? $35 though is about as cheap as first party published Nitnendo games go. I buy stuff from Gamefly from time to time and have never had an issue with them. No stickers or any shenanigans. It's safe, unlike Gamestop.

Who would have thought I would learn so much about crypto on cheapassgamer? Thanks!

Yesterday's haul:

Criterion-1.jpg

This was $100 before tax. Plus B&N has a current promotion where you can spend $100 cash to get back $110 in gift cards. I didn't take advantage on it this time since there's a chance I might return 1-2 of these. But that would have made each criterion 4K UHD $22.50 apiece if you wanted to count that rebate.

There is SO much stuff to buy this month. Here's the big one I'm on the lookout for, at Crunchyroll store, taken from a postcard mailer, on another forum:
"Black Friday up to 40% off sitewide" 11/27-12/1
"Cyber Monday Buy More, Save More! Spend $100+, Save $25, Spend $150+, Save $50 Spend$250+, Save $100 (extra savings for streaming members 12/2 only"

That means 40% off plus any discount associated with streaming on 12/2, which is enormous. I'm going to be looking to knock out 1-2 expensive Aniplex of America sets on my wishlist, like Monogatari Second Season. Hopefully they are eligible. AoA used to never previously go on sale, until Sony bought CR.

I was also at Box Lunch this week, where they had a Buy 1 get one 50% off on most clothing. Their prices absolutely suck, but being able to get a pair of their branded and licensed hoodies and sweaters for ~$100 ain't bad.

The BF sale ends on 12-1 though

Agree to disagree on that last part. I'm always interested in their stuff, but the gamer ain't the only part of me that's cheapass.

Games I want to be on sale for PS5. I want physical copies.
Silent Hill 2
Star Wars: Outlaws
Alan Wake 2
The Last of Us 2
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
Dragon's Dogma 2
Astro Bot

Bandai store has Pacman and various other hoodies and sweaters for $5 currently. I’m no clothing connoisseur, as you can probably tell by my buying a $5 pacman sweater, but good enough for me. Arrived already, it’s decent quality, comes from the same shops that make all these things I’m sure. Not cheap or shabby though, I’m happy with it for $5.

Is sea of stars worth it? I only ask because it’s on gamepass
I've heard mixed things myself, though one consistent criticism I've heard is that the story and characters aren't anything special.

That said, I also have Gamepass, and the new QoL update it got makes me want to at least check it out...

I own a couple copies of sea of stars. picked it up on sale at Amazon and target in the past. As a collector I love this type of game and wanted to keep one sealed.

as far as how it is… I started it a month ago and read there’s a huge QoL update that was coming this month I’m November so I quit about an hour in and started other games.

Sea of Stars is excellent. One of the best 2D JRPGs in years IMO. Nice story, great combat and beautiful graphics. 89 on Open Critic. If you have GamePass, definitely at least give it a try.

I really need to play that game. I feel like a lot of the meh reviews are from older JRPG fans who've played enough classic JRPGs to not be all that amazed by SoS. Still, it seems like it's a well made game.

Has there been any word or rumors on a B2G1F sale anywhere? I'm looking at my list of games to get and got like a dozen games I wanna get but can't justify current prices.
