So i guess if u go in the afternoon around 1 to not expect any ps3s left @ walmart/best buy? This is my first major BF purchase
Nope, not a chance. Not even in the remotest of places.

You'll need to line up hours (HOURS) in advance at those respective places in order to have a chance of getting one.

If it was me and I was after one, I'd be planning on camping before midnight, for sure.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm looking to pick up the PS3 on BF mostly for bluray movies. How does it compare to stand alone players? Should I go one way or the other? TIA.
The only problem I see with the PS3 as a bluray player is that it isn't flat on top and thus you can't stack anything on top of it like you can a normal component (actually, I'm just going on how it looks in pictures - I have not seen a Slim in person, but it appears to be curved on top still). So if you just want it for BluRay, you might consider that issue. Also the remote is an additional purchase.

In addition, having any integration with home theater remotes will cost you especially if you want the dongle-less solution.

Other than that, fantastic player.

With BD players dropping in price it's hard to justify the PS3 as a BD player ONLY. However, it does have other useful features besides gaming, i.e. 120GB HDD to load videos/pictures/music, streaming capabilities, and Netflix support. It can also function as a semi-decent internet browser when needed. If all that is worth the extra cash (~$150), I'd say go for it.
and they changed the prices repeatedly.
Mostly down. Things were getting cheaper as the weekend went on.

I'd say that you've probably got minimal chance if you show up at 1. I think you need to be there before midnight.

You know, the more I look at that Wal-Mart scan, the more I think those bundles will be available even after BF.

Those boxes are too well done to be created in house just for the ad. In fact, if it was truly a BF special only, why would they even have the custom box? It would be like BB's ad where they had the standard box and then just the pictures of the bonus items.

I bet they are WM exclusive bundles (much like the PS3/MLB 09/Quantum of Solace bundle) that might just stick around longer than we think.

But only time wil tell...

My money goes to kmart unless amazon matches, 2x guitar hero world tour wii for my nephew and my little sister. The rest of the BF ads are kinda weak.

Why would you stack anything on top of your video games system. Not a smart idea in my mind. You want it in a cool well ventilated place and not on top of or on the bottom of another electronic. Also, you don't need to buy the the bluray remote as the DS3 controller works just fine navigating your blu-ray functions. I have a remote which I haven't even opened. LOL.

You may be right, but they don't necessarily have to sell them for $299 after Black Friday either.

i live close to a Best Buy...and plan to be out early anyways Friday to pick up stuff...but I'm wondering how fast those L4D2 copies will sell out. BB's a hot store on BF anyways..and with the chaos that goes on in the store..i'm wondering how long it'll take to get a copy out of the "cage". I mean, they only have, what, maybe 10 copies of each new game at most?
when will we start seeing these ads being distributed/in stores? i want to try price matching at competitors the day before.
They come in the paper on Thanksgiving Day. I can't say I looked for them in store, but BB I think had them the day before Thanksgiving as they are closed on Thanksgiving day.

You plan has a slight flaw, only Wal-Mart and a few stores are open on Thanksgiving, so price matching, even if they did it before the sale price was valid, would be rather difficult to say the least.

We were talking about using a PS3 *only* as a BluRay player. The non-stackable aspect of the PS3 is exactly my point.

I look forward to them not doing that again this year.

oh man, I was not planning to do black friday after the disaster last year {I got nothing lol} but the walmart scan showing rock band special edition for only $50 is too good to pass up, if I get it then I have a xmas gift to give to my sister :D

Yeah, I think there's a fat chance that you'll get a store to price match prices that aren't even valid at the time you're attempting to price match them at.

$35 for Dragon Age, L4D2 and Brutal Legend would be great, but Best Buys lines are usually around the block by 4:00AM. I'm thinking Kmart is the way to go.
The only thing I want is someone to do a B2 G1 Free at the least or some kind of coupon deal.
The only b2g1 free i see coming is gamestop used. I would suspect as we get closer to xmas, there maybe a b2g1....
Same here for me. I managed to get great deals with Best Buy online and Amazon online between Turkey Day and Black Friday, plus some others throughout the weekend with Amazon.

It's just not worth risking life and limb for some savings.
I agree. Last year I got some good deals through Amazon . . . you just have to stay up late enough.
I agree. Last year I got some good deals through Amazon . . . you just have to stay up late enough.
Does Amazon normally go live with their deals at midnight on Thanksgiving?
I agree. Last year I got some good deals through Amazon . . . you just have to stay up late enough.
or set an alarm clock for 12am PDT. That's what I did last year :)

Got up, unslept the comp, was done in about 15 minutes, and went back to sleep.
Waiting for Amazon's sale and HOPE they have a PS3 bundle.
I hope so too. I really hope that they go below the 299 price point instead of a bundle.
I noticed on the first page of this thread there is no FYE ad pending. Does FYE not usually run deals on BF?
I don't think they do. I remember walking in last year and asking about 'BF deals' and the guy pointed at all of the crappy DVD box sets in the font of the store.
We were talking about using a PS3 *only* as a BluRay player. The non-stackable aspect of the PS3 is exactly my point.
People still stack components?

If Amazon just matches Walmarts, i would be happy. I dont have the energy to stand out and camp out with all you hooligans!

if they go beyond, thats always better too :)
Does Amazon normally go live with their deals at midnight on Thanksgiving?
What people have to remember though based on last year is Amazon has some deals go live ON Thanksgiving, some go live on Black Friday and even some go live over the weekend. I bought stuff from Turkey Day through Sunday last year with different video game deals (and other products) popping up at different times.

Thanks for the advice guys. This is my exact dilemma...get a standalone or the PS3. I have a xbox 360 so I'd only be using it as a BR player and to play the occasional exclusive game. All the other features I wouldn't need. If it dropped to $199 or even $249 on BF, I'd be in for sure but I'm on the fence right now. Any other suggestions?

My thoughts exactly. Best Buy usually has a long line at 11PM on Thanksgiving night, so not sure DRagon Age or L4D2 will be there when I plan on getting up. Surprisingly in years past, there has been no line at EB. Maybe they will price match.

If they did, no one would be talking about FYE or stacking components. Last years sneak peek was 2 days prior to Turkey day with many deals just appearing through out the weekend.
Speaking of Amazon, have they dropped any info on their deals yet?
I wouldn't be surprised if they "leaked" some stuff on Monday. Oh say around the time Walmart's lets theirs out.

I have been to Best Buy 4 years in a row now, I have gotten there in line at 4pm on Thanksgiving and I was still 30ish/40ish in line. You really just have to prepare yourself for the bitter cold night (I'm from Michigan) and you'll be fine.

They look to have some pretty good deals, not the best but good nonetheless.

I highly doubt Gamestop/EB will price match on the Best Buy games (LFD2, Brutal Legend etc.) but just go into your local store and ask.

I am confused on the 30% extra trade in come BF. Does it start thurs or friday? Or do we simply don't know. I have pipe mania, but my dilemma is waiting for the 30% or trade now before the value drops.

It's been up for days. I leaked it first out there on neogaf.com and have since been banned.

The gamestop ad I have will be posted in a few hours. Hopefully it won't be too long. *work permitting*

Rumor is one of the Gamestop deals will be buy any Xbox 360 game, get a Family Hits game (Lego Rock Band, Lego Indiana Jones 2, Bakugan) for half off.

This was leaked on Xbox Live earlier in the week.

Don't tease us now. If you really have it, post it ASAP. My entire BF shopping strategy hinges on what's in that ad! (I have a lot of credit there.)

yeah i saw the tab for that... did they take it off? it was under the "harvest days" or something like that... I wouldn't mind getting LRB for $25... and i think it said any xbox360 game... So if we can buy used get the cheapest used... :D
dang does anything think walmart will offer the 360 version of cod4 for $25 too?
I'm hoping for it. The price for the 360 and PS3 COD4 is the exact same on their website.
