Black Friday Headset

CAGiversary!
I am hoping that somebody will be able to help me with regards to getting a good deal on nice gaming headphones during Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

I am no expert in gaming headphones, but I've heard it really enhances your gaming experience, so I figured this would be a great time to find a good deal and try it out.

I see that Best Buy has the Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 Gaming Headset for $39.99, and I also see that the Ear Force X11 Amplified Headset is going to be 50% off (the Toys R Us website currently has the price at $50, so if it's based off of that, then it would be $25 on Black Friday). Also, has Amazon had great deals on gaming headphones in previous Black Fridays? Amazon would actually be my preference.

Are any of those 2 really great deals? Also, I am looking for headphones that work with both the 360 and the PS3, and I am looking to spend in the $30-$60 range. Obviously not top of the line, but something solid that would be a big step up when I'm playing at night when the family is sleeping.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I know it's just a gaming headset, but I'm completely overwhelmed and have not seen many great deals for Black Friday for headphones.

I've owned and or testing/used from a variety of headsets, including tritton/madcatz, astro, and turtle beach.

One thing I want to tell you before I continue and I want you to understand is that there is no best headset. You can spend as little or as much as you want on a headset set up, It doesn't mean it's the best. This is because everyone wants different things in a headset.

With that being said, you state you want a fairly "cheap" headset for gaming. If you want just a stereo headset for online gaming then the X11 or X12 are fine for you. But is not compatible with the PS3. It will definitely sound better than the speaker system built into your tv. Any headset would.

If you want a low priced headset that is upgradable to simulated surround sound than I would suggest Turtle Beach's PX21. It's not surround sound capable by itself, but you can purchase a Turtle Beach DSS at a later time and add that ability. It comes with 50mm drivers, works with xbox 360 and ps3 and is only $65 on amazon.com, everything you want.

The one problem with "simulated surround sound" is the it doesn't always produce. Everyone's ears are different in catching sound. Because simulated surround sound is only 2 speakers (1 for each ear cup) not everyone will hear the "effect" of the surround sound. It's just a warning, you may be fine and reap the benefits. This is why I prefer true 5.1 headsets, 8 speaks all angled. most don't have great overal sound quality but the audio positioning to find your your enemies and such is the best to date.

Alot of info, I can talk all day about this stuff. Without great sound your only getting half of your gaming experience. Plus its very important for competitive online gaming.

Hope I was of help.

Thank you so much for your help. This is not my area of expertise, and it looks like it is yours, so any and all information is greatly appreciated. So given your help, it looks like the 2 that I noticed on sale during Black Friday are out of the picture. I will keep an eye out for Turtle Beach's PX21. Would you happen to know if they go on sale often, and even more specifically if there are any stores that have advertised it for sale during Black Friday?

I also have a question about your preference true 5.1 headsets. I am assuming that the PX21s are not 5.1, or are they without the DSS attachment you mentioned? And about how much should I expect the DSS attachment to be?

Sorry for my ignorance, and thank you again for all of your help. I plan on using these for online FPS gaming, so it looks like it is almost a necessity, so I don't have to play with the volume ridiculously low so I do not wake everybody up. Thanks man!

The DSS runs about $70 or lower online like amazon.com

The important thing is that the PX21 fits your needs now. The PX21 are not true 5.1, but they can be simulated 5.1/7.1 if you add the DSS. You can get the PX21 bundled with the DSS for about $130 or so but that is past your budget.

Now that you mention that you want the headset for online fps gaming I recommend the DSS. They are suppose to give you audio clues just like traditional 5.1, but in reality doesn't work for everyone as I mentioned earlier. If you know what your doing on ebay you can look for these things on there and get a "deal" that you wouldn't find otherwise. I can see you picking up a used DSS for much lower than retail.

Other than that I don't know of any deals for this particular headset right now but It was a deal of the day a few weeks back on amazon.com

Thanks for all of the helpful info Shifty Effect, I appreciate it. I think right now, based on your recommendations, I will keep an eye out for the PX21 and the DSS to go on sale, hopefully soon, on Amazon. This really helps, because now I can focus on specific items, instead of headsets in general, and then I'm not exactly sure which headsets are good or what is a good deal or not. Your help provides that reference. Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Out of curiosity, do you remember how much it was during the deal of the day on amazon a few weeks back? That will help me settle on a price point and set some expectations for me. Thanks again.
