NovaLogic's Delta Force - Black Hawk Down for the Xbox will support up to 50 players in one game over Xbox Live, according to an announcement by the company today. NovaLogic cheerfully boasts that the number is unprecedented for Live games.

"[Delta Force - Black Hawk Down] on Xbox delivers what no other console title can. As well as a strong single player campaign the game drops you into the action-packed chaos of modern warfare with 49 other gamers," commented NovaLogic President Lee Milligan.

In addition to eight multiplayer game modes, Black Hawk Down will offer team support, stats, voice chat, messaging, and matchmaking, among other online features.

That's a lot of people playing at once.

Unless they're going to do dedicated servers this is going to be impossible. There just isn't enough bandwidth on the user side to host and control that amount of gamers. I have a great connection, by U.S. standards, with 3.0/768 and I can still only host 12 on a bandwidth hog like RTCW.

I don't even get host on Halo 2, big team battle, much with a connection like that. If most people are still in the 1.5/256 or 384 range of broadband this just isn't going to be possible without dedicated servers.

If they do use dedicated servers they're going to have to charge a monthy or the game is going to be $50 indefinitely to recoup the costs. If Halo 2 didn't hit this benchmark, why would a third party game?

Too bad the game looks and will probably play like ass. They are probably able to have so many people with little lag because of the simplicity and blandness of the textures.

The PC version was great. Granted, it's a couple years old... but.. still a great game. ;)

I heard the 50 players would be for those on broadband with steriods; forget the DSL users.

I'm looking in to Verizon Wireless Broadband so I can play Live while on the road, no way I'll be able to get in to a 50 player game with that! :)
