Black Screen of Death

Not sure where to post this exactly but my in-laws pc just stopped working, not responsive at all.....ran a scan and bloodhound.mbr virus came up but only when i booted from the norton cd.... and it cant fix it in safe mode. So now when i log on to windows.....alll i get is a black screen of death...all i see is a mouse cursor and i can get to the task manager......I kinda miss windows 2000! Any help would be appreciated!

You need the Windows XP or Windows & disc. Boot up the PC with the disc inside.

Or if you have the PC's system restore disc.

Try Linux Mint. I recommend the LiveDVD.

It comes with Firefox, java, openoffice, all media codecs, Pidgin, xchat, etc etc.

Try installing Avast anti-virus in Safe Mode. Avast a has a boot-time scan option, so it will actually scan your system before Windows loads and the virus has a chance to get running.
