I feel it is deceptive.
You're not the only one. From the Highborn Steam forum:

"I am not complaining about $10 for 7 hours of gameplay. I am complaining about the fact that the shop page of Highborn does not inform you that you are going to purchase only the first chapter. Instead, you realize after 7 hours that you are supposed to pay more money to get what you have apparently bought before. I wouldn't complain if I was given this information on the shop page."

Yeah. I seriously doubt I am the only one who feels that way, but I didn't want to speak for others. I felt it was important for that feeling to be expressed.

I feel it is deceptive. The fact is that what I'm being sold is not being properly represented. It makes me wary of buying. While I dislike the prologue/Ep1 of Winter Voices, it is clearly labeled and upfront about what I'm getting.

Edit: At least this was corrected in the description. I feel in the title would be better, but it's there for anyone who looks.

I may have to wait and see what unlocks on the upper tier. I was excited to see so many new games, initially, but having three of the five spots taken by episodes (not counting the hidden game yet) gives me pause.

If nothing compelling is revealed in that upper tier, I may just be in for the lower tier. That'd be a first for me with Blink.

Jim added it to the description.
I just checked the description and it looks great, it stands out as a separate line from the game description and says enough that you know what you're getting/not getting.

Thanks for taking our feedback Casey, it means a lot. Your care for your customers is why you're our favourite new bundle. In fact, I appreciate it enough that I'm definitely in for at least the $2 bundle now, just out of support. Still iffy on the $5, but we'll see.

You aren't alone, I couldn't have expressed my own feelings better myself.

On the bright side, unlike with Winter Voices, the main "purchase" is the majority of the cost. The base game is $10, while each additional chapter is $3, making it a better deal than Winter Voices (where the prologue and each individual episode cost $5) because in a Steam 75% off sale the game would still be $2.50, and each chapter would be ~$1. Highborn lacks a complete edition though so.. we'll probably have more episodes/a complete down the line. Still kinda crappy, but a better deal regardless.

Mostly the same for me, except I already have two from the lower tier, which would probably push me towards just skipping this one.

I mostly just want Silent Storm. Epic Battle Fantasy 4 doesn't look bad either. If it comes down to it, I guess I can wait for Silent Storm to be in another bundle.. Nordic bundles everything these days.

Also don't forget the CAG blood oath to not buy or play episodic games until all the episodes are out. How many of us have managed to pick up the remaining episodes (3 & 4) of Cognition?
Grabbed them when they were cheap from Gamersgate (holy shit right) and emailed the dev for Steam keys.

So far all I see is a weak $1 tier (two repeats so far, and one game I have no interest in), two wasted $5 tier slots (Winter Voices complete pack is $5 less on the store than episodes 2-6 would be), and one slot that somewhat deceptively contains only a third of a game.

In other words, it's currently $5 for 2.33 games that interest me...

Unless the bonuses are superb, I'll be writing this one off.

Nice. Too much risk for me. Unless it is explicitly steam keys or an explicit promise of steam keys, I hold out for a sure thing. (Yes, I'm risk and hassle averse.)
The dev posted on the Steam forums they would give Steam keys or GOG keys to any purchase made anywhere as far as I understood it. I don't feel like looking for it again, but it was out there are some point =P

I don't have any games (expect bonus-games?), but for some reason Highborn and Winter Voices is pushing me away knowing they full games will be probably bundled sooner or later.

I still remember Cognition too well...

There's almost zero reason not to wait on Winter Voices. If the complete game is bundled, you win. If it isn't, you don't lose (since the complete pack is cheaper than buying the missing episodes individually.)

Large backlog is enough for any reason to skip if possible :p

The Highborn thing being in chapters is the deal breaker.  Only that, Silent Storm, and maybe Clickr appeal to me.  Better off just waiting for Steam sales on those.  It is a fairly new assortment of things, though.

Episodic content is definitely new to us. We saw the reaction and have talked to Inner Seas about how we can work it out. Currently our system does not allow games to be added post-launch, and this includes adding additional keys (one of the reasons why we haven't tackled the whole Greenlight thing). We're set with the amount of titles we have.

But they have agreed instead to put all remaining episodes on sale on Steam starting tomorrow (10AM US Pacific) for 90% off for the duration of the bundle sale. They were really receptive to sorting things out quickly, and we're thankful to them.

Wow, that's…that's really decent of them.

And as long as it's for the duration of the bundle, I can still wait and see the bonuses before making a decision AND buy the dlc rest of the game if I buy the upper tier.

I don't own any of these games and yet I'm leaning towards passing on this bundle with the incomplete higher tier games. If the bonus is good maybe I'll bite on the $1.99 tier.

Edit: Hmm, 90% off? Perhaps I'll have to reconsider. That's certainly awesome of the devs for being receptive like that. I'm shocked to say the least.

Inner Seas was really on top of it quickly. I can't say enough nice things really. Though Steam should get some credit, since the new dev ability to set their own sales made it possible.

Great news and thanks for being on top of that.

Bruticis told me I couldn't say this.

Thanks for that only one I didn't have was Episode 6 of Winter Voices. Guess i'll pick that up tommorow. Nice bundle didn't own 4 of these games so that is good enough for me! :)

You get a C for Corny ;)

Quoted your post before the edit, mwuhahaha.
That was my favorite part before the edit. :D

At first glance the two episodic/chapter games looked like a marketing ploy to buy in cheap then having to pay more to continue the game. However, with the slight oversight of me not remembering developers now may set their own sales & discounts, this seems to be a good compromise. If in fact 90% off or $0.50 an episode comes through. Thanks for following up with us Casey and kudos to Inner Seas.

Sure, I suppose we can give Steam a little credit for being our enabler. ;)

Well... I'm impressed with your efforts and those of the developer. I realize you all aren't doing it because you're nice people (though you very well may be), but because you want to sell some games, but it's actually refreshing to see someone go out of their way to take feedback... and act on it!

I think I'll look at Steam tomorrow and make my decision then. But know this... you've definitely swayed my thoughts from "no" to "maybe" and that's a good thing. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Wow. That is impressive. They must really have wanted those sales. I am blown away with how quickly and willingly you were able to work something out. That's the first time I've seen a collaborative effort between a bundler and the devs like that. Well done, Casey. That'll be enough to get me for $5.

I honestly figured that CAG was in the minority with our griping, guessing Reddit complained too.

Edit: Since you specified Inner Seas, I'm guessing only Winter Voices will see a sale and not Highborn (which your bundle is named after). And that Jet Set Games was less than receptive to your comments/suggestions. No surprise seeing as Jet Set were the ones who were being deceptive, not Inner Seas. May have to avoid them in the future.

It's also possible that they just haven't answered/decided yet. Worth giving it a day or two before condemning them, at any rate.

While that's definitely better than nothing, that only solves part of the problem... and effectively increases the price by 50% in the process.

A heads-up to everybody in thread. Apparently the Steam reviews for Epic Battle Fantasy 4 are for the flash version on Kongregate. The Steam version is described as an unoptimized mess which requires fiddling to get working right.

I'm still probably getting the $5 tier but this is disappointing to hear.

And Jet Set Games is planning to do something similar with Highborn as well. Just trying to find out when it will be live.

I should have said that. Sorry. I have been very very sick since the beginning of the weekend throughout all of this. I need sleep!
Get well soon, I appreciate the effort that you and the developers are doing but I hope that we won't see this kind of episodes bundling again and to include one of the episodes as the bonus is really a disappointment. Take Grimm for example, it has many episodes but Groupees sold it as a complete pack in one of its bundle, not separate episodes or seasons.

I'm not a fan of having to do damage control, so it's probably safe to assume that we'll change our approach. I'm also not a fan of trying to make sure a bundle isn't majority repeats when GDC is happening, but that's a whole other issue :p

But ultimately we're not afraid to say we made a mistake. The important thing is how we deal with it.

I like you, guy. Bought in at the upper tier, albeit mainly for the cards...I don't even know what these games are.

Casey I just want to say I think you are doing a stellar job and keep up the great work when something goes wrong you are on the ball about it! :)

It's okay. You did good with fixing the mess (I like that the sales links are on the main page now), I think you've earned a break. Now rest up and get better so you can deal with the headache of doing this AGAIN in two weeks.
