Blockbuster B&M - 3 for $9.99 Rentals
I noticed a new promotion at my local Blockbuster: Select new release DVDs and all non-new release DVDs are 3 for $9.99. This is probably the best deal I've seen at a Blockbuster store, especially since a very large part of Blockbuster's inventory is included (including most TV shows). I don't know if this is a national or regional promotion.
I wish our Blockbuster was still here, there's some movies I wouldn't mind picking up if they had it..

OP is correct. I saw the same offer when I was picking up some of the 50% off games the other day. It looked like there were some decent titles on the racks.

Hmm... I went to Blockbuster on Friday and it was 3 for $20 (movies $14.99 or less), and 4 for $20 ($9.99 or less)... 3/$20 was actually not a bad deal, since it included fairly recent releases like The Departed, Hollywoodland, The Black Dahlia, A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, etc.

Hmm, so some say this is for purchase and some say this is for rental. I'll probably be at Blockbuster again today so I'll find out for sure.

It is for rental only. They are posted all over the rental sections. New releases that it works on have a star on the boxes for rent.

Brian is correct. i stopped in today to return some movies I rented and asked about the 3 for 9.99. All movies from the center and ones on the wall with gold stars can be RENTED in the deal.

I don't even get how that's considered a deal by blockbuster. Netflix is only $18 for a month of three rentals at a time. Also, most family video rentals (other than the really new releases) are only a couple bucks for five days, or one dollar for a week for old ones.

I guess that's why I never go to Blockbuster.

This is indeed for rentals only. The signs are misleading and I wasn't the only one in the store confused at the deal. If you read the very small fine print on the sign, though, it says for rentals, unfortunately.

Because at first it was thought this deal was for purchase. But now that it is confirmed to be rentals only, it's a horrible deal.

Anyway, Blockbuster Online is better than Netflix in that you can do unlimited free exchanges in store with BBO Total Access.

I guess that's why I never go to Blockbuster.
I work at blockbuster, and believe it or not, some people still don't want to rent movies with an online service, be it blockbuster or netflix. Many are afraid of using credit cards online, don't have computers/internet, other lame reasons. Of course I live in a tiny little hick town.

And my town has a Hollywood Video and a Blockbuster, no small video stores anymore. Rentals are all $3.99 at Blockbuster, same as Hollywoods (except the older movies are $2.99). It's not a terrible deal if you are looking to rent movies already instore... I just don't understand paying that much for rentals. But then I get so many free I never understood paying anything at all. I like to buy my movies. But if I ever quit there (hopefully in two weeks, new job), I would most likely get the online service since it does work really well and cost per movie is really low, if you do it right. All that to say, the deal is bad except for n00bs that are already renting ;)

Depends on the location. A good number of Blockbuster's I've seen in Florida charge a minimum of $4.29 each for rentals.

That said, this deal is absolutely horrible. I don't understand why people pay for rentals in-store. Blockbuster Online Total Access is amazing, and you have more rentals than you could ever imagine.

Netflix is still much faster, easier to find dvds I want, and has a better selection then blockbuster although blockbuster has improved VASTLY in the last year with their online service. Plus with netflix I can download movies and watch em on my laptop at school which is nice at no additional cost.

Blockbuster total access = renting for new releases
Netflix = everything else
Netflix is still much faster.
That depends on where you live. Both services are fast, however if you live near a Netflix or Blockbuster distribution center, the speed will greatly improve for that particular service.

Blockbuster has somewhat improved its shipping speed with Total Access, in that movies are shipped soon after you return them to the store, instead of having to wait for them to be sent back in the mail.

Speed is also not an issue anymore since you have WAY more movies than you could ever know what to do with.

That depends on what you like. I've heard of little difference between the two services other than with anime titles. I've also heard a few people say there are more foreign titles on Netflix, though I can't say whether this is true or not.

More foreign titles, anime, tv shows on netflix.

The biggest problem I find is that aside from new releases there isn't a whole lot in blockbusters stores i'd actually WANT to rent.

But I've seen it that high in nearby stores before tax, so as you said depends on location. But if the higher the prices, the better the $10 deal is - although as many have said, it's a far cry from an online service.

I live about 2 hrs from Sacramento which is our distro center. My movies usually arrive within 2 days of returning my mailers, and my friend in Sac says it takes them no more than 2 days, usually 1. So I think it mostly comes down to usps service. But then I haven't used netflix for a year when I tried a trial.

I wish total access had more anime though. :(

$4.29 PLUS tax. And I believe I've seen it as high as $4.49 before tax at one place. Some locations can afford to charge whatever the heck they want. All the more reason to make the move to Blockbuster Online Total Access.

If you have a Total Access exchange while purchasing you can get 3 previews for $20. Just did that last week. Picked up some kids movies (Cars, Over the Hedge, and Ice Age the Meltdown)
