Blockbuster is doing it again this year, buy a 50$ giftcard and get a 5$ giftcard FREE. I used this 2 years ago when re-buying my PS2. I got 4 50$ giftcards and an extra 20$ to spend on a game!

That's a Greatest/Platinum/Player's Choice FREE.

I decided to post this outside the Gamerush thread because most area don't have Gamerushs. I.E. My area :(

More then likely they won't, unless there's only 50$ on it, they might think something's fishy. I used to work there and the more 5$ giftcards you were giving out the better your store was. So usually they are happy to give them to you.

We just wont do it.
I manage a BB, and to be honest I don['t know if the POS will even accept the GC as payment (it might, but I don't want to find out).
I just tell everyone the policy... way too much bad karma if it gets abused (and suspicious activity to boot).
I don't know of anyone trying the GC scam, but I do know everyone in my district is well aware that cash and credit card payments only (checks for BB members, of course) are the only acceptable payments for GCs.

(maybe I shouldn't use the word "scam" ...abusing the policy sounds a tad better)

Ya the POS will except any payment for a GC, just depends on whos on the register at the moment.

I.E.

Someone has 10 gift cards of 5$ can combine them into 1 50$ gift card. Any place will do it.

The idea, I assume, was to accumulate large amounts of $5 GCs by buying a $50 one, and using it to buy another, etc., etc.

hmm... I have 200 in credit for when my 360 comes in... i should change it out for giftcards to make some extra...

how long does the offer last and is it already going on?

come on think circuitcity is better at deals use the 15 off 100 coupon and boom u save more
also they have sony scratch offs all around the store with 5 off 50 and 10 off 100. On top theres more game selection. thanxs but aint worth it
Is BB like EBgames in that store credit cannot be taxed?
Nope. It is taxed.

I bought 2 $50 giftcards and bought 4 used GBA/DS games with the 25% off. I still have a little left over but I figure I'll use it eventually. Gamerush has some good deals compared to the other video game stores.

I might see about consolidating my gift cards. I bought $100+ worth of gift cards right before they started this deal, but they wouldn't let me get it retroactively. I'll see if they won't let me buy a couple $50 gift cards with my $160 now. Get an extra $15, and go to town stocking up on DS games.

the sign at the store says not valid with purchases derived from account credit, value cards, or gift cards. I wanted to consolidate $150+ of credit, and did not receive any extra gift cards.

Yah, I guess they couldn't let you buy gift cards with gift cards, otherwise you could just keep buying them over and over again to accumulate free $5 cards.

Unfortunately, I need a bunch of $20 cards and while I'll spend $100 on them, I won't get $10 free. :(

well you could buy a $100 gift card and then use that to get 5 $20 ones.. you just wont get the extra gift cards the second time around.

I would be careful about buying giftcards to hold for a long time. Blockbuster is heading towards bankruptcy. Exactly how long that it takes is anyways guess. I just wouldn't buy a bunch to wait for a PS3 or anything.

to be honest i doubt we will see blockbuster video disappear anytime soon, even if bankruptcy was imminent, someone would step in as blockbuster is too big of a brand name to be eliminated completely.

This deal was much sweeter two years ago when you could buy 50 dollars in gift cards and get a 5 dollar gift card free and then they had abuy 50 dollars in games or movies and get an additional 5 dollars in a gift card form. 50 dollars worth of stuff for 40 bucks=sweetness

They just recently became an independent company (within the last year) and it all went downhill from there. I remember my district was set up for which stores were going to get Gamerushes but then the company couldn't afford it.

That and Blockbusters keep closing down around me.

Lobsterjohnson, or anyone else, you won't happen to know why there aren't more Gamerushs in all the Blockbusters? I've checked the 6 closest Blockbuster stores to me and only one has a Gamerush inside. Does it cost them more money then simply renting videos?

Well, just restructing the store costs money, for one. I couldn't give any more insight than that though. I'm sure they go through some sort of process to analyze what stores in what districts would be good GameRush candidates.

That's pretty much it. It's all about the district making enough money to afford them.
