Blockbuster to END no more late fees Mid may
Will this go into effect at the same time as the $0.25 charge to get into the store?
This is offical... dude was showing the paper from HQ saying blockbuster is ending the program.

the changes will take place mid May...

I wonder if it'll roll out with an equally huge marketing campaign?

What's important here is whether or not the Blockbuster you were at is a franchise store or not. Franchise Blockbusters can make up their own rules regarding late fees but the non-franchise stores must adhere to company policy.

I'm willing to bet that this move is a result of some moronic board meeting at Blockbuster corporate regarding their financial troubles. Sounds like what Circuit City did recently by firing 3,000 of their most experienced employees. Curiously enough Blockbuster was considering buying out Circuit City recently. Match made in hell if you ask me.

But yeah, games cost $8 to rent at Blockbuster. fucking ridiculous.

From what I had heard, this was only in test markets. BB is trying out all sorts of different policies on these things in different markets.

B&M rental stores will be a thing of the past within the decade.

They just serve very little purpose with mail rental, pay per view etc., and will serve even less when we get bigger digital distribution of movies.

Even if you want something locally right that minute, most places have the Redbox machines around and at $1 a day those are much cheaper than the stores.

Well, for people who want new releases, this is actually a good thing. It means there's a better chance for more people to get to rent it out instead of one person keeping it 30 days and returning it after the "restocking fee".

That's one reason I stopped renting from them and went to Hollywood Video, since I could never get anything that came out within a few weeks at the store.
late fees will range 1 to 3 bucks per day... more details to come next week

worker at blockbuster just told me this
Just like a worker at Target told you they'd start charging for you to enter the store?

Thank god! So tired of idiots renting new releases from my BB on Tuesday and keeping them for over a week. Don't get me wrong, BB has every other reason to be considered the antichrist, but I'm glad people will be held accountable for getting their movie in before two weeks again.

It's just economics. With the current market, all companies are looking to cut costs or increase sales. Food portions (whether prepared or grocery) are getting smaller, services are getting more expensive, previously included goods/services are now a'la carte, etc. I'd much rather Blockbuster end their late fee grace period than increase prices -- which are already ridiculous (isn't a rental like $5 or something? 1/3rd of brand new avg retail price?).

i hear they're gonna charge you $0.25 every time they ask you if you want to sign up for blockbuster rewards and blockbuster online.

that is the main reason..... 50 copies of a new movies comes out tuesday.. They will be lucky to get 15 of these movies back before sunday.. meaning 35 copies stay out for 5+ days.

and those people saying 25 cents for this and that... this was on offical Blockbuster HQ paper.

said right on the paper....... Starting mid may blockbuster will BRING BACK Its LATE FEES... please tell your customers this so they will know it.....

More details will be coming in the next week on late fee prices, but they will range anywhere from 1 to 3 bucks per day.

And if you ask for a movie and it's not available the BB employee wil turn to you and say "I got the last one yesterday sucka"!
