When I went to Blockbuster on 10/01 a sales associate was handing out flyers promoting a trade in promotion at the store starting October 5th The flyer claims that games and DVD's qualify for store credit, and it also claims that everything is worth at least $8. This is a great alternative to trading items at eb or gamestop or what have you, however, it only lasts for a limited time, and no, I do not know how limited the time is so don't ask. I'll just type out the flyer so I'm not flooded with questions.

Gather up all those old DVD's and games

the store!

Starting October 5th
For a limited time only
EVERYTHING will be
worth $8!!!

EDIT: Hey guys, sorry for the lack of specifics. I went to the Tinley Park, IL Blockbuster. What I typed in under the post is the flyer verbatim, so I'm not sure about ps1 games, although I would be inclined to say yes on those seeing how my Blockbuster sells them. I really need to capitalize on this deal.

MegoW64, every time you post you are implying that I am a liar. The promotion includes games at my store, so please do not say "Sorry it does not include games." Maybe it does not include games at your particular Blockbuster, but that does not apply to all stores. My Blockbuster overprices some of their games by a decent margin, so paying $8 per game would still make by Blockbuster a profit. I don't see how this would "lose" them money as you said in a previous post. It may diminish their profits per game that they sell, but if this deal attracts a spike in trade ins the store will make out better with the sale.
Does Blockbuster sell systems, because I have enough crap games to maybe get one with store credit? Or at least enough to make the system within my price range. ^^;
My local blockbuster had systems to sell along with rent.

I called the local BB up they said ANy dvd is will at least 8 bucks as long its something BB would carry. Games start at 1 buck though

I hope this is true....I have to go to BB/GameRush to pick up MK:Deception on the 5th...so maybe I'll take a few OLD games and DVD's with me.
None of the BB's in the North Chicago area are good...the employees all give me the same story: we've never heard of such a thing so it's a no go... unless they're all clueless...
well, they must be clueless, because both of the ones i've tried there (lawrence/western and broadway/foster) are participating. call around this week, they just might have not known about it yet.

i also spoke to a BB employee at length about this tonight, and he gave me a copy of the official terms and conditions sheet. basically, the dvd needs to be in their computer, meaning it's not completely obscure, and the game has to have some resale value/demand, or they can just decide not to accept it. i mean, i'll certainly be trying to trade in a handful of old sports games, but i think it will vary a lot by location.

ipso facto:

"6. DVD and game software titles, game hardware platforms, and other products eligible for trade will be determined by BLOCKBUSTER in its sole discretion and may vary from store to store. BLOCKBUSTER may elect not to accept a particular title (including game software titles for a particular game platform) or an individual copy of a particular title, a brand of game hardware unit or any individual unit, or other product for any reason, including, without limitation, suitability of title for resale by BLOCKBUSTER, inventory needs, or the condition of any individual product or packaging."
Darn, I shouldn't have traded in 5 of my crap games during that EB promotion. I could have gotten double credit if I would have waited.
i second that....less than a dollar for 4 of the 5 games i traded
Well its started at the local blockbuster, they replaced their old 5$ per dvd poster with a 8$ per DVD poster.
did you see the expiration date?

I'm sorry if you took it that way, but I assure you that in no way was I trying to imply anything except that maybe you might be mistaken...but you're right, it could be different at other stores

I just dont get why Blockbuster would take games that at one point just .50 and make it an $8 minumum...that's crazy.

Just yesterday I did some trades on a bunch of Football games from 2001-2002...with only one of them having a trade-in value of over $1.50

It would just be crazy, in my opinion, for them to do that but it makes much more sense for them to do it on the dvds since their trade in rate is already a min. of $5.

Do they give you a blockbuster gift card with the credit on it or is it something else? (Like just a paper receipt.)

My main question is, can the credit be used for purchases of new/used games and DVDs as well as be used to pay for normal old rentals at the BB?

Or if they give you an actual gift card you could probably eBay it for 95%+ of it's face value.

You can buy a gift card using the credit, or you can attach it to your blockbuster account (i wouldn't recommend, cause then you can only use it that store), and my favorite, they can credit it to a gamerush card, which is like a reusable gift card that can be used at any blockbuster...

They should offer either to put the credit on your account or onto a giftcard. The credit can then be used for anything - rentals, movies, games, etc. You can get used or new stuff, but under no circumstances will they give you cash.

I think being able to get a giftcard with the credit makes this super hot. I'll have to check my local BBs to make sure they are at least doing the DVD side of the deal.
I was there today...applies only on DVD"s. BUt still a good deal.
Can people please stop saying this? It varies store to store, some take games, some don't. Everyone should check for themselves.

Thank you Rocksolidaudio, yes it obviously does vary between stores. I believe all of the people who say their promotion only includes dvds, now believe me when I say my promotion includes games as well. Aforementioned, yes, this may seem crazy to give an $8 minimum on games, but the flyer and associate assured that everything would earn at least $8. I will report on my trip later on tonight.

well, here's the deal. as i said earlier, and quoted from the blockbuster rules sheet, stores can refuse a trade-in or give whatever amount they deem appropriate (or, what the computer does anyhow). so, today when i went to trade madden 2003, they offered me $1.50. there's a "trade 3 get $5 extra on each" deal running for the time being, so if you're going to trade in some super-crap games, i suggest taking advantage of it.

Watch it guys, sometimes if the store is overstocked with a game they may only give you $4 or something, the first copy you trade in if there are not many in the store you may get $8. See my post for more details...

I just trade-in Tons of DVD's today for $8.00 Each but the the Advertise sign is $5.00

I endup got $256.50 Credit (Block Buster Value Card)

I'll take another trip tomorrow :)
They guarantee five bucks for every DVD
It change today until the end of the month... $8 each... I got $240 credit today

Even the crap DVD's Walmart sells for $1.00???

By rule of thumb, if you're going to try to take advantadge of BB by buying cheap dvds, make sure they're at least listed on their website. You still run the risk of them not accepting the discs, but it's not as high.

Hey guys, Rocksolidaudio is right, all I saw upon my visit was the trade 3 games and receive an extra $5 per game sign. I have no idea what happened with the $8 for everything deal on games (pretty sure it applies on dvds) but the flyer definitely said everything earns you $8 (first post). I figure it is not worth the trouble of the $8 deal, seeing how with that deal I would have gotten $24, but with the extra $5 deal I earned around $25.50. So, yes I was wrong about the $8 deal applying to games, HOWEVER I was going by the flyer that I was given. It turns out that giving $8 per game wouldn't be that absurd seeing how the $5 extra deal earned me more credit.

Since when does non gamerush blockbusters take game trade-ins?

The extra 5 per game is an awsome deal! If my bb does this Ill go later tonight. :)

Yes, beware. I traded in 20 dvds tonite for a whopping $173. They give you tax back as well. The only DVD they wouldn't take was Firefox (Clint Eastwood), so beware, they don't take everything.

As usual, I apologize if this has been posted, but hopefully someone will find this helpful:

Here's what the flyer says:

Get at least $8 per DVD trade*

*Store credit only. $8 minimum store credit offer available for a limited time only, on DVDs otherwise eligible for trade-in in accordance with Blockbuster's standards for type of DVD, condition of DVD and packaging, all as determined by Blockbuster in it's sole discretion from time to time. DVDs with damaged cover art may be accepted by Blockbuster in its sole discretion but may receive less than $8 store credit. Must be a member and have signed a trading agreement to trade. Trades subject to DVD Trading Terms and Conditions available at store. Amount of store credit subject to change at any time without advance notice. Participating stores only. See store for full details. Offer expiration dat 11/01/04

I traded in Jaws:The Revenge and bought 28 days later this is a pretty good deal! But how long is this going to go on for?

I have also taken advantage of the deal. But just to let everyone know, it varies store to store on the game trade ins. I have two BB within 2 miles, and one takes games, and the other does not. The one that did take the games is not a gamerush either. They are just taking games. The DVD deal is really great for all those DVDs that I double dipped on.

According to the flyer I've seen, it says the offer expires 11/1/04

So, like, I could trade in some stupid movies that I bought for some reason, and those old South Park Volume 1-6 DVD's? Howabout these crap wrestling DVD's I have for some reason? Do they accept wrestling DVD's, at all?

It is worth a try. If they are new I would say yes. I traded in Cat in the Hat, PLanet of the Apes, and got $8 for each today. As far as the no cover goes this is YMMV my Blockbuster would not take any DVD"s without cover art.

I tried trading in Road Rage II (Crotch Rocket video) and they wouldn't take it so I don't think they'd take the wrestling videos but it doesn't hurt to try.

These are pretty new WWE brand DVD's, and they make up half of what I'm trading in, so I sure hope they accept them.

Just traded in my stuff, they took everything (except two old WWE DVD's), and I got 200 bucks for it.

So, I used that 200 to get MadTV season 1, and Indiana Jones Widescreen collection, I spent like 97 on those, and still have 102 in credit left.

Man, I'm gonna stock up on cheap Wal-Mart DVD's, they seem to take them.

It's only a great deal if you don't mind BB credit. Personally I'd rather them give me cash. Oh well. The BBs around here don't have much worth buying anyway.

Might be a good idea to check Gamestops for used DVDs though. I sometimes see anime DVDs for 2-3 bucks there. It's worth a shot, I guess you could always return them if BB didn't take them.

Yay! After countless months of waiting I finally had the good fortune of someone turning in a copy of Disgaea. I traded in 6 5$ DVD's and that biatch was mine!
Praise the great minds behind BB's current deal. \:D/
Wal-Mart DVD's are $5.50. It wouldn't be the greatest deal to trade them in for $8.
Depends. If you buy 15 Walmart DVD's at $5.50 that is $82.50 plus tax that is about $88.

15X $8 is $120

120-88= $32 profit.

What two WWE DVDs do you still have? Since you are looking to get rid of them, and I collect them, maybe there's something I would be interested in.
