Blockbuster's guaranteed in stock no longer running?

They used to have this where you can get a raincheck to get the free movie if it's not in stock for new releases. Now with the 14.99 plan for all you can rent in one month seems like blockbuster does better with other plans.

I think they had to ditch that because of the "no more late fees" deal, because people can theoretically keep movies forever, making it impossible for BB to keep them in stock.

yup..previous poster summed it all up..lock the thread ;-)

jk...i wish they did the guaranteed still but oh well

That's probably why. But eventually that "no late fees" catch is going to bite them in the butt. But oddly, I just noticed that the Hollywood Video stores around here are starting to do the "guaranteed to be in stock or it's free" thing now with their new release movies and games.

glad no late fees. I just found my BLockbuster movie ALONE IN THE DARK i rented tuesday (was due back thursday) i just return it today

From what I saw at Blockbuster, and I could be wrong, the no late fees deal works like this -

You get the 7 or so days to have the movie (whatever the rental time is), and if you're late, you have 30 days to bring it back and you just get charged a 1.50 restocking fee (since after 7 days it's considered a sale). However, if you keep it past 30 days, you get charged the MSRP for the movie and you keep it.

So technically, there's no day by day late fees, but it could bite you in the ass if you rent a ton of movies and forget to ever return them.

As you should. No reason to keep any movie past 30 days. Blockbuster is a business too, and they can't make any money if someone is keeping all the new released forever.

I wish hollywood woudl let you get new movies on their movie pass, but I guess they can't do the "guaranteed in stock" if they did that.

guaranteed in stock being gone is a pain in the butt..I could not find a copy of national treasure for almost a week at my local blockbuster. Had to call and put it on hold just to rent it. Looks like netflix might be the way to go.

Kinda. You get 2 days or 5 days or whatever. Then you get a week. After that week, they charge the full current price of the game/DVD (used price if it's available used yet) minus whatever you paid to rent it. If you bring it back within 30 days of them charging you, you get all that back (I'm not sure if it's a refund or store credit) minus $1.50 "restocking fee".

I haven't tried this, but I think those free rental coupons you get with the online plan counts as money towards buying something. When I rented Doom 3 with one, the receipt said "Own it on X date" for $23.99. I think they took the $6 rental price off the cost of keeping it even though I didn't spend a dime.
