I knew someone was going to bitch when the main enemies of RE5 where going to be blacks... oh come on... Did RE4 cause this type of problem for Hispanics when it was released ??

"This is problematic on so many levels," Platt wrote, "including the depiction of Black people as inhuman savages, the killing of Black people by a white man in military clothing, and the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults. Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people."

But it's okay to depict the spanish as rural villagers and shoot them.
People need to get the fuck over it. It's not trying to be racist, you're just a fucking idiot.
I don't care one bit.. I am Hispanic and I didn't take it personally when it was released. After that trailer was released, it was only a matter of time before the press started bitching about it.. watch Capcom is going to get a lot of pressure into changing the game.

bah

It looks 60% complete.

Dead Rising depicted white people as fat zombies who just like to shop at malls...that's racist!!!

anyway, I'm done. I don't even want to discuss this with anyone, unless it's to make fun of these people-- who were apparently waiting for something like this to come along so they could jump all over it. Their attack on a 3 minute trailer that reveals absolutely no information about the context in which the "bad white man is shooting the savage black people" shouldn't be legitimized through discussion.

edit: if you're bored, go check an RE5 board on gamefaqs, it's like all "Is RE5 racist?" topics and has been since the trailers were released. It's fucking hilarious to read :)

Oh, uh, if you thought I was saying that you're a fucking idiot, I wasn't. It was sorta in response to whoever was behind the whole "ZOMG RACIST I DONT FEEL ACCEPTED" nonsense. I doubt Capcom will change it though. As far as the Japanese are concerned, people who play the race card like this can go fuck themselves.

What about the zombies? Don't they have a right too?

Makes me think of Infected when they have the zombie rights activists

that's why I posted LOL in the title... I just laugh because they are bitching ..oh cause it's a white man in military clothing killing blacks. Just pretend they are white androids covered in black mud and everything is ok.

there is no chance that it will be banned here in the US? please say NO.

but they are scared of American lawsuits ;)

and if this game gets changed because of this, I'll be so fucking pissed. They should just make all the villagers white people and get it over with. So Chris Redfield can be an "equal opportunity" killer

they are probably going to tone down the black killings and limit it to a village or two, until you get to some cult cave...and then some religion takes over the rest of the plot.
Did RE4 cause this type of problem for Hispanics when it was released ??
Might be because RE4 took place in Spain, and not Latin America. There were no hispanic people in that game.

That being said, RE1 was racist against people with beards. Look at how dumb they made Barry.

ehh I kind of expected it, though not this early for a game that wont be released till like 2010. The real question is would that person be complaining if it was the other way around.

Does the RE Series have a black as a main character??!?!

Hmmm... What if Rebecca Chambers was the main character, so if it was a cute asian girl killing blacks........... would someone bitch about it?

No. Not even the slightest chance. And if a white person complained they would be laughed out of the room.

Maybe we should look at this another way. All the black people are trying to kill the white guy since he's in their village and they don't want him there because he's white.

Now who's racist, huh?
People need to get the fuck over it. It's not trying to be racist, you're just a fucking idiot.
Exactly, it's basically just someone bitching and moaning cause he wants his 15 minutes of fame.

Did anyone bitch when you kills hispanics in RE4?

Capcom has responded to the calls of racism and changed RE5 however:

As a black person, I never had a problem with the premise of Resident Evil 5. I knew that eventually someone was going to take this out of context, and I was right. First of all, I actually read the blog and the responses that it received, and I wll tell you that the responses from the blog post were far more racist than the whole setting of the next Resident Evil game. It is a matter of people who normally don't play video games not understanding Resident Evil at all. Also, not only that this blog post still shows that there are people who still insist that video games are for kids. The absurdity that this game is marketed to kids and it teaches children to be racist at a young age just show that people are still behind the times. I mean this isn't Super KKK Bros. here (which actually exists btw), it is a game that takes place in Africa, simple as that! I bet whoever posted these statements didn't realize that the game is being developed by a Japanese company. While we are on the subject, I really hate the double standard that minorities like mine have place in society. It is stupid and makes us look like total hypocrites. I would like to see the game to be kept intact, but it may not due to this piece of "news".

I don't count Outbreak as part of the RE Series. They are SIDE characters not main characters.

As for CAPCOM's response, ok, thread over lol.
Shooting mexicans is ok, but Zombie-infested blacks, that's racist!

dude it was spain, Leon was in europe, just because they speak spanish doesnt mean they are mexicans .
dude it was spain, Leon was in europe, just because they speak spanish doesnt mean they are mexicans .
I wasn't really referring to RE, I was more referring to Rainbow Six Vegas and all those other ubisoft games that involve shooting mexicans.

has any of the RE sites figure out WHERE in Europe RE4 did take place?!??!?

Well said. I'm a minority too, but ignorant ranting doesn't help anyone. The writer of the article would've done well to at least research what she was railing on before having an opinion on it.

And shame on the media for giving this blog any kind of credibility or spotlight of interest.
i hate New Zealanders
It doesn't matter if they spell words differently, or as some would say "more correctly."

has that guy Jack Tompson or whatever the hell his name is said anything about this yet?

Bet you money that when this game finally gets out, all the big media outlets (NBC, Fox, CNN) are going to blow this out of order. A game that allows you to play as a well armed white cop killing blacks in an African village. They will leave out the details like, zombies, t-virus (or whatever virus)and show off scenes of chopping a black man's head off with his giant ass knife. They will simply call it Racist Evil.

God I love the media.
They will simply call it Racist Evil.
That's a good one, I hope that catches on with the gamers. As a joke, of course.

Wow... three pages of posts and I'm the first to shoop? Damn...

The real racist here is the journalist. Black people aren't superior to white people. White people aren't superior to black people. Nobody is fucking superior to anybody. Everyone should be treated with the same amount of respect, no matter who the fuck you are. Unless you're Jack Thompson or some alarmist media $$$$$$ like this bitch.

When you call attention to Resident Evil 5 because it's some American in an African village shooting up people that are trying to kill him, you're keeping racism alive. Honestly, did anyone really think "Wow, that's racist, Chris Redfield is shooting black people" when they saw the trailer? Hell no! We thought, "fuck that game looks fun! I want it now!"
I bet whoever posted these statements didn't realize that the game is being developed by a Japanese company.
To be fair, the Japanese are certainly not exempt from racism. Specifically in regards to blacks, they still regard the "sambo" caricature as a humorous icon, they gave MMA fighter Kevin Randleman the nickname "Donkey Kong." Don't even need to get started on Koreans.

My opinion on this is surely far more liberal and PC than most of you; now, if the game takes place in Africa, then context certainly matters (but if it's South Africa, then I demand an FW DeKlerk zombie!); I thought I read, though, that this takes place in Raccoon City decades after RE1. Which is true?
