Blue Dragon Xbox 360 $5.00 TOYSRUS

No, I beat it, but, the entire way through, I was constantly having to push myself forward while trying to tell myself that I was enjoying it. It wasn't until a few days after I had finished it and put it back on the shelf that I finally allowed myself to accept that, "no, that game just wasn't very good." Luckily, I got it for $30 during the K-mart sale, and just traded it in to Gamestop for $27.50, so only about 3$ lost.
DISAGREED. Lost Odyssey is overhyped and bland. The characters were kind of shallow, and once you read the first few dreams, you realize the developers were trying WAAAAAY too hard to be deep and spiritual by making things purposefully over-dramatic and sad. If you lived 1000 years, don't tell me the only thing you'd remember is death and disease. I like to think most of us would have more memory than that...
Plus, the ending just sucked, IMO. Lamest final boss ever.
I don't think every dream sequence was sad or sullen. I remember some being pretty not gut wrenchingly horrible. I will agree with everything else though. I enjoyed the game, but it had A LOT of problems. Shame to, since it started out so strong, but took a nosedive as it went on; Namely Kaim's character.

This.
Akira Toriyama is the artist. But if you want a GOOD Toriyama-inspired game, you should really check out the Dragon Quest universe. DQ8 on PS2 was excellent, if you can bother giving it a chance...

I liked it okay, but eventually quit playing. Dragon Quest 1 remains the only Dragon Quest game I legitimately like. I like Blue Dragon much, much more.

I disagree about both the 'needing to know Japanese culture/judging it from that perspective', as well as the Lost Odyssey. Final Fantasy 13 is still in my backlog, but aside from it there's nothing this generation that could possibly come close to Lost Odyssey for Japanese RPGs, aside from Blue Dragon, which IMO isn't nearly as good.

And complaining about the characters, calling them shallow and whatnot? Compared to WHAT? Not compared to most games, and certainly not compared to 99% of Japanese RPGs.

Well, as for Blue Dragon I enjoyed it quite a bit and it is one of my favorite games of this generation. So there. I paid $60 for it and it was well worth it, though of course I was pretty disappointed it dropped so far and so quickly. Lost Odyssey, on the other hand, which I also paid $60 for didn't quite drop as much so that seemed like a better "valued" purchase, though I enjoyed Blue Dragon more. (And of course I used store credit for the two games so I didn't really pay $60 in "real" money for either ;)).

I loved DQ VIII by the way, so maybe that's why I liked Blue Dragon so much. But Blue Dragon has a few elements that make it much more bearable as a JRPG to those who may not like the genre as much when compared, to, say Lost Odyssey. First of all, no random battles which is always a big plus (and made FF XIII better too). But also, you get a shield later in the game that can be used to "bump off" lower level foes if you need to go back and search for a treasure or something in a previous area. But not only do they get bumped off, but you also get 1/2 the experience you would have gotten if you actually fought them. I thought this little gameplay tweak was a genious idea and made grinding (which you really only needed to do if you wanted to get 1000/1000 achievements as I did) so much easier.

Always had an interest in this game. When i went in to my local TRU they didnt have any in store copies. The clerk was cool about ordering two copies for me and i got free shipping! Dont know if thats a perk for in store but works for me!

BD also has some really annoying characters. It isn't a bad game, but I don't think it was all that great either. And it isn't anywhere close to being as good as Valkyria Chronicles or Persona 3 or 4. If you're looking for a good rpg on the x360, I'd say go with Lost Odyssey. That being said, BD for $5-$10 isn't a bad deal at all.

The problem is, once someone has played Persona 4, every other rpg from then on, particularly in terms of characters, seems relatively terrible. Persona 4 is both a rpg fan's ultimate gift and curse.

Eeeeeeeh...maybe, but I really doubt it.

And Valkarie Chronicles...yuck. Like 99% of that genre now it's way too hard, unless you love restarting, trial and error, etc. They don't make those like they used to...
