There's a big change in store as Boktai makes the trip to the dual screened portable. The Game Boy Advance titles shipped with a built-in sun sensor, and required that you venture outside from time to time in order to play. For Boktai DS, rather than using the real sun, the game makes use of an artificial sun displayed on the DS's top screen.

The top screen actually shows a cycling sky. When the sun shines?@on the top screen, the world below is bright, and the play experience is similar to when playing the GBA titles outside in sunlight. When night comes around, the moon comes out on the top screen and everything in the game world gets dark. Enemy numbers increase during this time, and you can't charge your energy. The top screen also displays weather effects, with the sun blocked during stormy conditions.

Aside from this change, the basic 2D Boktai gameplay engine seems to have returned with this title, making the action on the bottom screen resemble the GBA titles. We're sure there's plenty what's in store for Boktai DS, though, so be sure and check back in the coming weeks for an update.

Boktai DS is currently without a release date.

I have both on GBA and have yet to play them but I've heard good things about them.

I'm not sure what to think about that. Without the sun sensor it looses that magic. Day and night gameplay without that...I dunno.
Sounds fun. I enjoy you link news (NOT being sarcastic)
Thank you.

I hope its based on the internal time of the DS system rather than just random time changes.

It would be cool if it did both though no?

I was thinking about that too, but the temptation to change the clock is right there...

As long as the sun sensor is there I am happy. :D

Gamespot says it uses a real time clock. Most likely the DS'. It is kind of a double edged sword really. While I liked going outside, sitting on the swing chair while the sun beamed down I can see why they would change it. You could only really play it for two hours at the most before the game said no more, people could only play it when good weather was out and people in Alaska were screwed. So yeah I too wish you could switch between both but oh well.

They're probably making it so that while ultraviolet light isn't required, if you insert either Boktai 1 or 2, it will enhance the amount of light affecting gameplay.

I enjoyed the first Boktai, but the reliance on sun light wa a true pain in the arse on those dreary winter evenings. I think this new mechanic could work, and I hope it does!
