Books Into Anime-A List

CAGiversary!
I'm looking for anime that is based on famous literature.
The only one i know of is Gankutsuou, based on the Count of Monte Cristo. Have any more?

Wow... I'd stick with watching Masterpiece Theatre and read the actual classics.
Sherlock Hound was okay when I heard of it. But they even made one out of Moby Dick?!

And I think I've a sneaking suspicion that the OP is trying to avoid actually reading the books, like how some of us watch movies for book reports. Maybe I should watch "The Invisible Man," instead of reading "Invisible Man."

Actually, no. I want to read the book, watch the anime, and then compare. For fun. Just like with Tales of Symphonia, I went and did research on the mythology connections. Just a hobby of mine :D

Based on:
1. Daddy-Long-Legs: Watashi no Ashinaga Ojisan
2. Little Lord Fauntleroy: Little Prince Cedie
3. A Dog of Flanders: Dog of Flanders
4. The Yearling: Kojika Monogatari

There are plenty that draw upon the 'Dr. Jekyll' theme but they tend to be tentacle porn.

While not singling out any one title, 'Cowboy Bebop' draws heavily on the works of Jane Austen. And you can see considerable influence from the Bronte Sisters in the Tenchi Muyo stuff.
