I'm creating this new thread, as the previous Bookworm thread suggested in the thread title that Bookworm Adventures was coming to the DS, which is untrue and was therefore confusing.

On November 30, Popcap released Bookworm on the DSi, and in a few days, the title will also be available on the DS, under the same name.

Bookworm DSiWare
Price: 500 Points
Reviews: IGN - 8.0

The DSiWare iteration of Bookworm feels very much like the Gameboy Advance game, which is the last time Bookworm has appeared on a portable console (or any console?). The basic mechanics are there: you create words Boggle-style on a grid, trying to create longer words to avoid the game penalizing you with burning titles, which destroy other titles. If a burning title reaches the bottom of the grid, the game is over.

The only difference I immediately noticed is that there is now an option to shuffle tiles, which is very useful when you can't make any more words. And although it's not obvious, the game does automatically save your progress.

Bookworm DS
Price: $19.99
Reviews: IGN - 8.4

From the above article:

"The Nintendo DS version offers all of the content that has made Bookworm so popular as well as entirely new gameplay not available anywhere else, including the multi-player Bookworm Battle Mode, twenty all-new Collectible Books, the ability to construct a library based on your game progress, and the all-new “Lex-Ray” – a fun new way for the game’s hero, “Lex,” to measure and track your growing spelling and vocabulary prowess."

Bookworm for the Gameboy Advance was the only pirated video game I ever owned. I bought it from eBay, and it was obvious something was amiss when I received the product. It came in a box which felt more plasticy than paper, and although the back of the box had screenshots for the game, the text was about a skateboarding game. The label on the cartridge was more cheap paper than a glossy label. Still, the game worked fine, and the price I paid was so cheap compared to a genuine copy of the game that I kept it.

A girlfriend of mine and I kept borrowing the game from one another, until finally I just let her keep it, as she was enjoying the game immensely and always had it in her secondary slot of the original DS. She beat my highest score by far.

I've been looking forward to the release of this game a great deal, to revisit a sort of nostalgic bit of gaming, from about 7 years ago.
So are they the same exact game? Is there anything more in the retail version? :whistle2:s
Yes, they are different, but you'll have to decide if the difference is enough to make you dish out $19.99 for the B&M version, or if 500 points is more your cup of tea.

The DSiWare version is just classic Bookworm. The DS version has the classic version of Bookworm, as well as the following:
I wonder if this means the price of the GBA game will come down.
Probably, considering Gameboys of any form aren't produced anymore, nor are games made. If folks are looking for Bookworm now, odds are they've moved on to the DS.

I have this on my iPhone and it's a well done game, but somehow not as compelling as it should be. I do play it on occasion, but the games go on way too long. Actually in the timed mode they don't, but I'm not into that frantic kind of play for this type of game, so I only play the non-timed mode. Lots of people like this game, though, so take my words with a grain.
IGN likes it.

Awesome. I might actually end up getting both versions. The full one for my collection and at-home play and the DSiWare version for vacations and on the go.

I love Peggle and Bookworm/Bookworm Adventures. I'm hoping PopCap keeps the good games coming! Wonder if they could fit Plants Vs. Zombies onto a DS cart? (the dual screen, held like a book would be perfect for P vs. Z)

i got the cartridge version. The stat-tracking's pretty cool, if you're interested in that or in multi-player I'd suggest getting the cartridge version. otherwise the DSiWare version is probably a better option for you, since the action mode is essentially the same as the classic mode.

DSi version tracks your stats too.

When you say multi-player, what are you referring to?

I am still planning on getting the DSi version. I have never played this, but I do enjoy having quick pick up and play games always available on the DSi.
