So I just got Boom Blox not too long ago and absolutely loving it, (highly recommend it, at least rent it)

So in a nutshell IGN just posted an article stating that EA/Spielberg will be releasing the sequel officially called "Boom Blox Bash Party" (don't let the party thing deter you). Boom Blox 2 has already been announced back in Nov./Dec. but no real details. Link for IGN's article http://wii.ign.com/articles/949/949149p1.html

New Features:

 • Over 400 newer levels
 • More multiplayer fun (.....duh....party)
 • Expanded level creator mode
 • Able to download new levels straight from the designers at EA, as well as challenges created by other Bash Party players from around the globe.
Supposedly we are going to see this game as soon as Spring of '09. The first game was a blast like I said to any improvements to the second one will be much appreciated, should be a good one!:D

I'll try to stay up on top of news for this game if anyone else is interested or if anyone has news I'll gladly add it to the OP.

Sounds good to me. I rented the first one and have yet to find it cheap enough to purchase, though I was planning too once it went sub-$20. Of course with my Wii acting up recently I dunno - hopefully that will be resolved by the time the new one comes out.

I didn't think Boom Blox had sold well. I guess they are hoping the second time is the charm. In any case, I guess I'll hold off on picking up the first one and wait for the second.

online level sharing and more multiplayer options- these were my two main complaints (well, sometimes the cursor got stuck offscreen if you waved wildly)

loved the first one, this is a great announcement

This is the one thing I thought was really lacking in the first one.

vgchartz seems to think it has sold just shy of 1 million copies worldwide. Decent for a game that has held it's MSRP pretty high for almost a year. I suspect that number will jump before BB2 comes out and EA drops the price of the original.

It's the sequel conundrum: buy the (usually) feature-deprived but cheaper first game or the better but more expensive sequel. It's like, buy Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 ($15), 2 ($30), or TV Party ($50).

To your RRR question - 1, then wait for TV to drop. Get 2 for $5 at a Gamestop clearance some day.

VGChartz makes up their numbers; don't cite them unless you want to make yourself look dumb.

Anyway, the last numbers we had for Boom Blox was 450,000 copies shipped worldwide back in June. With the additional 6-7 months since then, I could easily imagine the original selling at least 600,000-800,000 by now (especially with Christmas shopping giving it a boost). But until we get official numbers from EA, we can only speculate.

I'm aware of this, which is why I used the phrasing "seems to think". However, since the only other information I had seen was what you mention above it seemed reasonable.

I don't like "party" games - I prefer all the development to go into a meaty single-player puzzle experience. The first Boom Blox had multiplayer modes which I've never accessed. As for sales, the first game started slow, but had legs throughout the year. This was all over the gaming press. They wouldn't have planned a sequel if it had been a bust.

This!

I still say that Boom Blox is the best game on the Wii.
In a world where Super Mario Galaxy and Okami do not exist, you would be right! ;)

Indeed, it releases next week, and there really isn't enough buzz for it right now. As it was pointed out in the Punch-Out topic, Toys я Us is having a "Buy Punch-Out!! and get $10 off any Wii game" deal next week.

Boom Blox Bash Party will have a $40 MSRP, so it would be a good one to use for the deal if you were planning to get both.

EDIT: Also worth pointing out G4's interview of a senior producer, who outlines some of the new features in this sequel:

I still haven't finished the first. I do a half dozen levels here and there, but I'm still only at 65%. If I wait until I 100% complete it I may be able to get BB2 for about $10.

There are many top tier games on the Wii. What about Corruption, Brawl, and World of Goo? Definitely, boom blox is an elite title in the multiplayer genre and arguably maximizes the Wii motion controls.

Personally, I own the first title in the series.

I thought Boom Blox started well, but in some ways, there was too much variety for my taste. I went in imagining tossing a ball (or something similar) into large stacks of blocks, and destroying stuff. It starts that way, then turns into a very passable Jenga type game, and then trying to lead characters through a maze, etc. I had the game for a week from Gamestop, but took it back, having beaten a large portion of it, and all the remaining levels that I could see weren't what I enjoyed in the first 2-3 hours of the game.

I thought the editor was passable, but outside of toying around with it, I'm just not going to create all my own levels. Some people enjoy it, I'm not one of them. I'd love to download some levels for it, but putting up more than 1 level of my own would be unlikely.

So, this will be on my radar when it falls, won't be jumping in at $40 though.

has anyone seen this at Target yet? I have a $5 off a Wii game coupon that I would like to use to get this game but my local Target doesn't have it yet :(

Reviews so far have been generally positive, as expected. Many praise the amount of added content, especially in the level editor and downloadable level aspects.

Given time for shipping and whatnot, it should be in most stores by Thursday, Friday at the latest.

Just wanted to chime in thay we rented this from Hollywood and it is every bit as good as the first game though not remarkably different. They did make the hit-the-creatures-before-they-steal-things part much more tolerable, though. In this one you hit UFOs instead and there aren't nearly as many of them. It still has the problem of not registering throws frequently which can really mess you up but not as bad as in the first game where every throw had to count on those parts (at least to gold them).

We haven't even tried the multiplayer yet - just been taking turns playing my son's game and we are already 75% through the single-player in 2 nights of play (though he spent several hours on it Monday).

I rented it for a single night over the weekend just for the MP. I'd say the MP is leagues better than in the first game. There is a lot more variety in the games and it's just a blast to play.

Yeah, we're going to have to give the MP a shot tonight. I loved the 4-player castle destroying game in the first Boom Blox - it was sort of like the ultimate verison of Warlords which I have fond memories of from my youth ;).

Nice 25% off retail sale for Boom Blox Bash Party @ Target, $29.99 until the first Saturday in June. I almost bit on a couple today, but I've got enough trade credit built up that I should probably just get it @ GS. Hopefully someone else can take advantage of this sale.

I picked it up at Target this morning. I never was interested in the first, but all the rave reviews about both caused me to get this. It is really fun.

I have the first and I'm being lazy and not reading through a bunch of reviews and such--so, layman's opinion, worth picking up or trading the original and upgrading?

I find the throwing mechanics more improved, but more importantly, user created content is a bigger focus in this game
I would recommend trading and get this one.

One thing I've been very disappointed in with the game is that you cannot play against someone else through WiFi. I had bought this game for myself and my nephews with the good deal @ Target thinking that we'd be able to play online together. Apparently the only online component is for downloading and sharing levels. This is a major gap if you ask me, they need an online component unless I'm missing where it is.

I would consider it an upgrade over the first Boom Blox, which I enjoyed greatly. $30 is a great price point for a new game, and if you want to rush out to get it like I did I would recommend that price, however I would consider it more of a budget title without online versus. There is definitely a lot of new content and levels, although many of them are way too easy. I played the first one for a year and really only got through 11% per the status, and after two days of playing it for a couple of hours total I am already near 20% complete.
Bringing this back from the dead, just read a news article that EA has released a bunch of new levels made by EA:

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=20421

I, like many people I'm sure, picked this up yesterday since it was $15. Enjoyed the first one, hoping to enjoy this one even more.
Sweet, thanks for the news. I never played the original but was interested, and picked this up from amazons sale as well.

If I am reading that right there are 500 EA made levels from downloading? Or is that saying these levels, plus levels on the disc are 500?

Either way I will likely download a ton of levels from both EA and user created levels.

Can't wait till my BB shipment gets here. I've wanted Boom Blox Bash Party for a long time, but the price was too high. $15 is perfect.

I've picked up a lot of games (for the wii) this holiday buying season and will actually be dusting off that lonely white tower and putting it to use.

I've been looking for a good deal on this game for about a month now. I bought a copy off ebay but it didn't work so I had to return it. It looks like a fun game!
