Borders 50% off Blu-Rays 3/18-3/21

Damn - 50% off doesn't get most of these movies even close to a deal. Who is paying $40 for The A-Team??? No wonder they are going out of business.

Time to see what other Criterions I can pick up with 50% discount + 10% additional for Borders Plus.

Most of the time, the only thing worth picking up when they do these sales are Criterions.

EDIT: Well, fuck you to Borders for not making any Criterions online as part of the sale online.

Here's what is part of the sale online, which is pretty much only Amazon pricing after the discount and with taxes:
http://www.borders.com/online/store/ListView_bluraydvd

Once applied to my cart it says
"Buy One of Select Blu-rays, Get Another at 50% Off List Price (Limit 2) - Unless Online Discount Already Applied - Least Expensive Item is Discounted"
Maybe it is because I am not a reward member it gives a suckier deal.

Only decent deal I could find was Walking Dead: S1 for $19.00 assuming you can get the code to work.
edit: not on the list
edit 2: discounts from list price, bleh

I'm going to take a run by one or two of the non-closing stores today and see if there's anything worthwhile. Though it's funny to me that even when the closing stores are apparently at 40% off on blu-rays (from what I've heard, haven't been to one to check yet), Borders is still putting out coupons that make it so that you can do better at the non-closing stores.

The only movies that might be slightly cheaper in that list over Amazon, in my opinion are: "Red Cliff: International Cut", "Major League" and "Monster House 3D".
Lol, this is why I just stopped clicking anything with Borders in the title.
And yet here you are!

Guess I'll have to see what stores I'd run by normally have Criterions in-store and see what the website says for stock checking. @whee, what fun that was the last time I tried that.
most of those prices are just ridiculous. no wonder they filed bankruptcy.

reminds me a lot of tower records in that respect
Borders is at least throwing some nice sales our way but for the average Joe to walk in and buy something full price is ludicrous. It might work on some book purchasers but with the "I want it now!" category of people drifting towards low quality streaming movies and Kindles/Nooks there's no reason not to be competitive on price.

That said, I have my coupon printed and will be visiting Borders tomorrow (going out that way anyway so it's not a special trip) with a couple of titles in mind.

Just asking, does anyone know if borders store allow you to pre order merchandise. Because after looking on the fine print it does not state that pre orders are excluded.

Does borders take manufacturers coupons? If you go in store and get nausicaa with the $10 manufacturer coupon it would only be like $8.50 after both coupons. Also is there a way to get the coupon if you don't have a copy of the DVD? Thanks

I believe that they don't take manufacturer's coupons, however it may well be a YMMV thing depending on the store/manager, so if you're going anyway, it's always worth a try.

There are instructions for getting the coupon in the blu-ray coupon thread (sorry, I'd have to look there for the info myself at this point since it's been a while, so I can't really give it to you any easier than you can find it), and you don't need to own the DVD (you might need to enter a UPC code from the DVD on the Disney Rewards site, but if so the UPC will be in the thread and Disney has no way of verifying that you actually own the disc).

Stopped by a Borders store today. The only Criterion blu-ray that they had which I don't already own was Broadcast News . . . while I do want that one, I think I'm going to hold out until I can get an even better deal on it at the B&N sale.

I grabbed Casablanca for $12.50 and Psycho for $13.50. Not utterly spectacular deals, but I've wanted them and both were a few dollars cheaper than Amazon's price, anyway. Other than that, I didn't see much else that would have really been a good deal.
Tried looking at the list but had no success. No Criterion, so any Kino films on that list?
Not entirely true that there's no Criterion discs on the online list -- there's The Thin Red Line, Charade, and Benjamin Button. Useless to me because I already have all three, but they are there.

Alas, no Kino films.

Probably the best deal I see on that online list is the Shrek box set, which would be $33.50 after the coupon (compared to $40.49 on Amazon). Not quite the cheapest price I've seen it at (I picked it up for $30.36 in the DD sale at the end of last year), but still decent. Of course, shipping (unless you still have a store around to get it shipped to) could well kill the deal.

The Borders in my town is closing and the blu-rays are all marked 50% off. Sadly, that's still horrible. There were a few titles that came out to $7.50, but they're ones that are cheap everywhere. I'm kinda sad to see them go because I'd use gift cards from Discover cashback rewards and a printable coupon and get books.

I just took the coupon to the nearest Border's on 2 separate days. The first time I went and got the OOP Criterion 'The Man Who Fell to Earth', and the second time I got 'Shock Corridor' and 'The Naked Kiss', so this sale has been pretty successful for me. Thanks, Borders. You suck 90% of the time, but every now and then we get gems like this.
