You will all probably hate me for posting this but I just bought Gran Turismo 4 for $10 at my job over at sony, BRAND NEW! :D . Same thing is going to happen with God of War but I may get that one free since I worked on that title. Depending on the producer.

Hate you? I'm laughing at the fact they still charged you $10 for it.

I don't think anybody will hate you since you work there and it is one of the perks, but still I would like to congratulate you.
you worked on GoW?

any specific features of the game you know that most people don't know about the game yet? ;)
Unfortunately I am unable to give any details that has not already been released or I will lose my job  The title I am working on now is ATV for the PSP for those who are wondering.

You get charged $10 for a game that you did not work on, otherwise you get it free but there is some producers that still want $10 for their game regardless of whether or not you were on the title.

Look how easy he said that. It was as though he was just brushing off his shoulders to us peons. Wow. Great job man.

Man, that is the dream job right there. Can you picture it? "so what do you for a living?", replies "i'm a professional videogame player."

The only thing that sucks about the job is that I only test 1st party titles so when sony isn't cooking anything up I don't work, don't get any money :x

EGM said game tester salaries are around $30k..is that true??

I mean, I'd love to play games all day long, but at the end of the day it's the bank balance that matter.s

I hear its not the best... you get stuck testing the same segments of the game over and over and over until you just want to die. You have to do your best to replicate bugs which means doing things 50 times with minor difference.... I bet it'd get annoying, but its is still playing games...

Its not a fun job. Ive had several employees that left working at a videogame store for working at a bug tester place (THQ, Vivendi, TDK) and only two out of seven people liked it. Usually you play pretty bad games (Muppet Party Cruise, Tonka, etc) for MONTHS at a time.

The plus is the pay is usually $9-$11 hour, plus you get massive overtime (were talking pulling 80 hours a week!) when a game nears its release date.

Yeh, I was just thinking imagine having to play game like Turok:Evolution for hours and hours.

And sorry for the few who actually like Trurok:Evolution, I hated that game with a passion.

How the hell did you get the job? I am desperate for any tips you could give me, since I'll be forcably thrown into the working world in about 3 months and that is the industry I'd die to get into.

agree'd

good job... hope you like it cause i dont really care for it. Its more of a 3.5 then a true 4. Its nice that you can port your part 3 licence over to part 4.

the best part is having a 900hp VIPER slamming into ever wall trying to turn :)

You just bought this year's Driver 3.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I found the job one day when I was browsing for a job on hotjobs.com and monster.com . Both places posted the job stating that Sony was looking for game testers. I sent them my resume, I got a call back for the interview and the rest is history. What i'm trying to say is to just keep your eye out because this job is posted every once in while. Hope that helps :D

Congrats. My buddy works for Bungie. He actually worked on Halo 2. I don't know what he got Halo 2 for if at all but I know he gets a Microsoft discount at their on campus store. I think he gets new pc games for like 19.99 for a 49.99 game. Not bad but not $10.00

Now, now. That's just silly. Turok Evolution obviously wasn't play tested at all or if it was, for about 10 minutes then they moved onto the next game to be play tested.
