Brando's voice dropped from EA's "The Godfather: The Game" - Quite asshole-ish, too.

Brando's Voice "Unusable" in Video Game

Late screen icon Marlon Brando's voiceover has reportedly been dropped from a video game based on The Godfather movie, because his ill health made it unusable. Brando won an Oscar for his portrayal of mafia boss Don Vito Corleone in director Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 classic, but games publisher Electronic Arts is said to have turned to an impersonator to re-record the lines. Brando attended a recording session in the months leading up to his death last year, but the use of an oxygen tank to aid his breathing diminished the quality of his voice. A video game insider tells British newspaper The Independent, "Electronic Arts only had him in for one session and didn't get through all the lines. Then most of what they did manage to record isn't useable because of an oxygen tank that he was breathing through at the time." The source adds that EA's Brando impersonator does a competent job: "He's not bad but then who can't do a decent impression of The Godfather?"

Ah. What an asshole-ish comment.

I can do a pretty dead-on Brando imitation -- a really good one, actually. And it's a very difficult voice to consistently use.

Furthermore, that EA asshole's comment is disrespectful to Brando.

And, yeah; I agree, man. The game will more than likely suck. I'd love to be proved wrong, as I love good games... but I highly doubt it'll turn out good.

What a bunch of fuckers. I can't remember who, but someone important with the movie (was it the director?) already made a public statement basically condemning how EA's handling the game.

WTF is it with making videogames out of The Godfather and Scarface? Sure we loved playing GTA 3 and Vice City because of those movies somewhat but making games out of them is just wrong. There is no way these games will live up to the standards of the source material.

And I know a person who can do a perfect Brando, Dom Delouise.

But once again EA proves to be a company of evil. EVIL!

Also if the guy is sick and can't play his part to the standard that everyone expects why are you bashing him for not wanting to do it??

Personally, I think the game can stand on its own without repeating lines from Brando's movies

 It's funny because it's true.

Brando was a great actor, and his last work shouldn't be remembered as a wheezey voiceover in a potentially crappy EA videogame.

In a related story, Majesco has announced that the voiceover for the main character in the upcoming 'Jaws' game also will have to be re-dubbed due to illness...if you consider being blown up, electrocuted, blown up a second time in Sea World, and then getting rammed by a sailboat before blowing up yet again, an illness.

:) ;)
Putting Brando's voice in this shit game would have been like raping his dead body.

It's better this way.
Thanks for giving one of the worst mental pictures ever!

This guy is a "video game insider", not a representative of EA. So stop acting like someone from EA is saying this.

Agreed, some people these days are looking for any excuse to complain about EA. Not to mention the fact that I fail to see how what was said is disrespectful to Marlon Brando. This "insider" was merely stating the fact that the audio was unusable due to him requiring the use of an oxygen tank. Its not like the guy said, "yeah the crusty old bastard was too wheezy from suckin on his air tank". I believe what was said sums up the situation nicely without any disrespect intended or percieved. So once again, Anti-EA's get off your damn high horse already.

I think the comment that people are pointing to as disrespectful is that anyone could do a Brando/Godfather impersonation. I personally don't think that is disrespectful at all. Almost anyone could do a Bill Cosby impersonation too. Who the hell cares!?!? It's not like they are saying anyone could have played the Godfather in that movie.

EDIT: I agree with you 100% about the EA bashing too. Bugs the shit out of me.

Francis Ford Coppola was the one who came out publicly about the game.

Really...well that makes one bad next gen game...I mean, did you see those graphics

I'd rather have an audible impersonator that sounds like Brando circa 1970s rather than some Darth Vader sounding Brando from last year that you can't understand. Who cares about this, really? He's dead so I'm pretty sure he doesn't care. I also don't think it is disrespectful - if EA thinks it will be a better product without using him then they shouldn't hesitate for 1 second. Remember the last time someone in a TV mafia family died in real life and they had to use old footage to continue the storyline? It was freaking horrible and laughable all at the same time.
