It's about a week old, but I just got around to watching the video of it (I never watch Leno). To stand up on national television and attack Bush like this, Bright Eyes just went from being one of my favorite musicians to just plain hella cool.

Check it out- free stream
True. I just thought I'd mention it for those who didn't know.
Hmmm...I'll let is slide. At any rate, it was nice to not hear any booing during or after his performance.

You poor, poor, lost soul! We must remedy this immediately!!!
An extremely talented young lad. 6 Albums by the time he hits 24? crazy. Each album has a very different sound, too.

ehh, I've seen better. Ani difranco had 7 by the time she was 24 (she started recording albums at 19). She's 34 now and has 17 full albums (3 double cd's), 2 full albums she collaborated with utah philips on, and 1 ep with multiple non album tracks (3 ep's total, but 2 are just remix cd's). So 19 and a half cd's in 15 years. Let's see if this bright eyes kid can keep it up.

I think Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) started recording music when he was 14. Not sure on that. And he has more than 6 albums, but not all of them are "Bright Eyes".

EDIT: Looks like the total is 9+, not counting the online only Christmas album and a split EP.

Well, you've got his other project, Desaparacidos, his work with Neva Dinova, the Tilly and the Wall collaboration. So yeah, more than six overall, but I was thinking primarily as "Bright Eyes." And, as a point of reference, it was when he was 13 that he started recording.

Conor Oberst started recording when he was 13, and i can't stand him (tho i know people love him)

you're entitled to your opinion, and i respect that, BUT

pleasepleaseplease please dont' call him the next Bob Dylan, because he is most certainly not.

it's quality over quantity in my book, any which way.

Thank god, Bob Dylan is so vastly overrated, it's not funny. He's got some good songs, but I would only cannonize him in the "Homer Simpson as Henry VIII" sense.

Calling him the next Bob Dylan would be too limiting, and insults both artists.

It also implies a 20+ year period without and decent work. Let's all hope that never happens. It's better to not release anything than to put out garbage that only reminds everyone of how good you used to be.

I especially agree on the limiting point. Oberst has already shown more musical diversity by 24 than Dylan has in his entire career. And, as I mentioned, I do like Dylan's early, good recordings. But he's done nothing good, for a long, long time.

well, i guess i started this, so I'll back out, it's clear how you feel about your boy and me about mine.

let's leave it at that :D

but let's not say that Time Out of Mind was a bad album.

I'll give you Time Out of Mind, but that was still 20 years after Desire, with maybe one good album in between.

Of course one major difference is that Dylan comes from a time when a musician could affect the world around them. I don't think anyone can hope of having that sort of cultural impact in America ever again.
He was ok before he became a country singer (Oberst that is).
Are you referring to I'm Wide Awake, it's Morning? I'd suggest listening to Digital Ash in a Digital Urn if that's the case.

I don't even really like the whole alt-country thing, but I really, really like I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning . But I agree that if you're not into that one, try Digital Ash . It's pretty good, even if he does push the "baby crying" button in the middle of one song.

Shit I thought Too Short or like one other famous, see HUGE artists, had the most. Looks like he's been slacking. wags finger.

Each album may sound different but the refrain from (yet another) liberal muscian (are there any conservatives?) is the same mindless anti-GWB diatribe.

I don't even like Bush that much but the hate for him is absurd.

But then again I don't belong to a party that lost control of the House and Senate after holding them for fifty plus years (sans a two year period in the Senate) and has lost the last two presidential elections and does nothing but continue to lose ground in the Senate.

Toby Keith is a conservative artist. But he gets kicked off scheduled performances because he says "ass". I can see how people would get offended by puting our boot in our enemies ass. Yet asking the president if he smells his own bullshit when he talks to God is completely within the limits. HYPOCRITS!

Britney spears supports bush, just cause she isn't a virgin and does a pseudo striptease on stage doesn't mean she isn't a conservative. The problem is to be a real conservative, ya gotta be against things such as gay rights and affirmative action, directly offending large percentages of potential fans (not indirectly offending them, such as hating their favorite politician). Besides, what makes a better protest song, we got make things change for the better, or we gotta make them stay the same forever, "send the fags back in the closet" or a song about mathew shepard?

Can you imagine bob dylan or pink floyd as a conservative? "fuck vietnam, nuke those $$$$s to hell!". (who woulda thought they'd censor that racist word?)

Though keith getting kicked off schedule for saying "ass" probably has more to do with his selected venues, than with his politics. Besides, he's a country singer, hardly a land of liberals.

It's cool to be a Bush-Hater. Very original.

Considering Bright Eyes does not have a lot of main stream popularity, I'm sure he was not just trying to "be cool"

You lost me at Matthew Shepard.

If there was ever a worse martyr, I don't know of him. Except maybe Rodney King.

Maybe you wanna explain why he's a bad choice when comparing a song complaining about advances made by gays and a song supporting gay rights.
I'll do you one better...

i agree both sides are pretty stale and sound REALLY petty, at least this guy was out there doing something about what he believed in rather than sitting on a message board arguing politics like a monday morning quarterback.

That would be Ship in a Bottle, if you're keeping score at home. Otherwise an enjoyable song.

Winning an internet argument is kinda like winning in the Special Olympics. At the end of the day, you're still retarded.

Well that was certainly an original statement. ;)

I never heard of Bright Eyes until now. Then again, I dont listen to radio anymore or watch cable tv.
I try not to let my fans down.
they're both very proud of you

How about a round of applause for all the fans out there?
