Broadband through powerlines

There's quite a bit of complaint about this though because it tends to cause a lot of background noise which some claim could basically destroy the range of AM and other low frequency bands.
 
This technology has been around for years, what they do is make slight variations in the alternating current so it can transmit 1s and 0s, but the variations aren't enough to disrupt electronic devices.

It's pretty cool, if you have electricity you have a built in Local Area Network!
