There was absolutely zero hype in magazines and TV on it. I knew of it, and I bought it the day it came out. I enjoy it. I'm currently being barricaded by Nazis in a panzer in a farmhouse, which sucks, so I haven't played it in a few days. The Live play is the opposite of kick ass, mainly because there's hardly anyone playing. I've started seeing commercials. Don't get me wrong - I love the game, hell, I even have a five foot BiA standee.. there was just no hype in magazines and TV. As Birbo said, most of the gamers "in the know" knew about it, but your average joe in college or high school knew nothing of it.
Yeah, the internet sites definately gave this game more love than the printed stuff. I've got about 4 chapters left in the campaign. I'm not aware of how many are playing on LIVE, cause I've only played with 3 friends i personally know. It's strategic and intense. I'm not sure how long it will last though. With SC:CT coming, a lot of the strategy people will hop all over that (including me). In the meantime, my gt is psychobrawler if you ever want to play.
As far as the price drop, ubisoft has already said they're working on a sequel for holidays. I'm guessing they want as many people to get ahold of this as possible to understand how great it is, that way the next one can launch to more hype.
And Scorch, like the new avitar... Going to see NIN in Chicago on May 7th, one week after the new CD.
