Brushes with fame

I've met, Huey Lewis , Ace Frehley, Sherrif Lobo from BJ & the Bear
( don't know his real name), Adam West. I used to be a bouncer at a topless bar where I've met KC & Jo Jo , Hank the Angry Druken Dwarf
& a ton of Porn Star's. Also alot of Charlotte Hornet's and Carolina Panthers. Rick Flair a few times, he used to own the Gold's Gym in Charlotte.

I was talking to Gorgeous George (this hot old-school wrestler chick) at some convention and was asking for an autograph or pic with her. She was about to pose with me when her manager (another old wrestler, can't remember his name) came along and chased me off saying I had to pay $10 for a picture.

I also met Scott Wolf at a Sept. 11 charity fundraiser. That's all the (well semi) famous people I've met.

Hah, I remember her. She made quite a video after she left wrestling.

I've met too many to list.

Living in & around New Jersey, I run into Kevin Smith and all his crew almost weekly. Jay, Steve-Dave, Walt Flannigan, the guy with his hand caught in the Pringles can, etc. The funny thing is people in NJ can't stant Kevin Smith. We know what an ass he is, only outside NJ is he "famous".

I've also run into Bruce Springsteen & Bon Jovi many times.

Once, while taking computer classes in NYC, I was stuck in an elevator with Mike Bloomberg (while he was running for office, before he was mayor). It was really cool.

I was taking night courses for computers at CUNY across from the Empire State Bulding, and when I was leaving Bloomberg was there. There was some kind of political thing going on. I got into an elevator with Bloomberg and his advisors, 2 NYC policemen, and some other people.

This demonstator in an enviormental suit tried storming the elevator and asking Bloomberg what his position was on illegal ocean dumping or something stupid. The policemen handled the whacko off the elevator, but there was still too many people on the elevator (it wouldn't work) so more of his aides got off, it still wouldn't work, so the last of Bloomberg's crew got off (he seemed uncomfortable) and the 2 of us rode the elevator to street level. He turned to me and apologized for delaying me (which I thought was really cool) and I told him it was no problem. It was just odd but kinda cool, the two of us alone for that 15 seconds, two people from such different worlds.

Being a journalist, I've met quite a few famous folks. Snapped a photo of George W. Bush on Sept. 11, 2001 (in Sarasota, FL)... Others include Tori Amos, Spin Doctors, Better Than Ezra, Audiovent, Jared (the fat Subway guy), Terry Bradshaw, Willie Aames (of Charles in Charge), Jerry Falwell... Quite an eclectic group, now that I think about it.

I used to live across the hall from Creed before they got signed...and when they didn't suck monkey balls.

When I was 7, I was with a friend at Atlantic City and in one of the clothing shops was Mike Tyson. They shut down the whole store for him to shop but somehow me and my friend got into the store and got his autograph.

I also met Rachel from Road Rules Campus Crawl when she came to my school last year

i met cedric ceballos(former laker back in the day). he and a local radio station was at my high school hosting "the stay in school nba jam"(forgot what they called it). Very cool guy i met him backstage cuz i was in a high school club and lucky enough to work behind the scenes. I said "whats up cedric" he said "whats up dawg" gave me the homeboy handshake(fist bump from front and back). he was like do me a favor and watch my ride. make sure no trys to break in(his suburban license plate read"DEEZ NUTS". later i got to talk to him for five minutes about the lakers and his infamous lake havasu getaway during the playoffs. cool guy he answered all my questions.

i also met A.C. at an autograph card show. Saw mike piazza when he was with the dodgers at frys electronics in manhattan beach.

Ceballos was a pretty good player. He played for the Mavericks at the end of his career and had several great games.

Well I worked for a small indy wrestling promotion for a bit and hung out with Kid Kash (now on NWA-TNA), Jamie Noble (of WWE "fame"), Ricky Morton (of Rock n' Roll Express fame), Bobby Eaton (of Midnight Express fame), and the locals. :) also My friends and I almost killed Carrottop at a KISS concert years ago. Too bad we didn't. ;) And thats a story for another time.

Ahhh, Eaton and the Alabama Jam!

On the Saturday night of Woodstock '94, I was in the Newburgh (sp?) airport with a "Property of Newburgh Police" blanket wrapped around my shoulders, I was caked in mud sipping hot chocolate, when in walks James Earl Jones with a bunch of big fellas. I was so tired at this point I couldn't even get up, so I just nodded and said "hey", and he gave me a "hey" back. After he walked by, my friend looked up from her drink and said, "man I must be tired, I could have sworn Darth Vader just said hi to us." If I didn't look like a homeless orphan extra from Annie I would have begged for a picture.

I assisted Sinbad in playing a demo of Luigi's Mansion at E3 a few years back...although I guess he really doesn't count as a celebrity anymore (if ever)

Oh, and props to ajk2298 for bangin' the drummer from The Donnas...I'd ask how she was but that seems tasteless and tacky...

So how was she?
Ahhh, Eaton and the Alabama Jam!
and don't forget about the midnight express manager jim cornett and the tennis racket. remember the wwf tried bringing back the midnight express with bob holly and bart gunn. that was so weak.

Growing up in a part of Southern California that a lot of the Hollywood types who disdained Beverly Hills chose instead to have their homes the number of minor and major celebs you'd see made it a standard behavior to try to ignore anyone's fame unless it was unavoidable. It was an unspoken agreement that they were just people and got the same treatment as everybody else. I can remember seeing Heather Locklear buy groceries with her mother at the local Gelson's. The mother was gorgeous so it cam as no surprise that the daughter has stayed looking so good for so long. When my brother was a waiter at a local restaurant the guy who played the leader of the biker gang in the Clint Eastwood orangutan movies was a regular on Sundays. Complete opposite of his most well-known characters. He'd bring his large family, all dressed immaculately, right from church and all of the kids were under a close watch to insure their manners were up to snuff.

There is a term that has sprung up DYKWIA (Do You Know Who I Am?) for when certain types of people try to use their position or fame to gain unwarranted privilige. John Kerry has a notorious rep for this. Most of the numerous celebs in the area where I grew wouldn't dream of pulling something like that. They valued being able to walk around unhassled too much. If they really wanted something in a hurry they'd use money to make it worthwhile to those who had to wait longer as a result, just like any other respectable person of wealth. The jerks who tried to pull DYKWIA soon learned that the standard reply was, "Why do you suppose I care?"

Very good.

i worked in teh theater at CCSU. Fiona Apple did a concert there. I got to hold the door open for her as she went out to her bus.

I've attended a great deal of anime/sci fi cons within the past 8 years, so I've seen a good bit. I won't bore the site with a long list.. but.

When I was living in Atlanta, I was a Spanish Translator for a Construction Company. We worked on Ludacris' house. Cool guy. He was there like only 3 days out of the month tho. We worked on it for about 5 months.
