Thank you for defending me. I love you. Marry me! And if I could put Luffy in this. I would.
Honestly, I'm pretty happy and proud of the work I'm doing. If nothing comes out of it, so be it. I'll move on to another project and keep working. But as of now, I'm happy with what I'm doing. :)
There's alot of haters in this thread, but seems to me you have the right attitude.

Good luck man!

Actually, wasn't it right down the middle of the street? I like the intestine idea, actually, but in reality I don't think intestines have the strength to pull 100+ pounds of weight.

Not that the OP is going for realism, or that any horror movie does for that matter. It's just something as a viewer that would bother me.

What do you mean by busiest spot in Birmingham? Anything in particular? Traffic? Shopping? Clubs? I dunno. The Summit is pretty busy. Hell, all of Birmingham is busy.

Just a sidewalk that is busy.

There's a well-known phrase I think you should take heed to:

Write what you know.

Now, stop asking random ass questions and making yourself look like a terrorist.

HA!!! C'mon now, didn't everybody have that thought run through their head over this? Even just briefly? Oh, damn you, post 9/11 bullshit anxiety with your fruit-loop colored danger signs!

LMAO. It's so true, though.

Someone call Chertoff. Raise the alert level to light magenta. And find my matching socks...
Is the summit a street?
It's a large outdoor shopping complex, supposedly the first of its kind that spurred the popularity of outdoor village-esque shopping centers around the nation in place of traditional indoor malls or standard strip malls. Basically, you'll enter and it'll be like a little shopping village - stores, a movie theater, various restaurants scattered about the area, landscaping, artwork, etc...like a strip mall on steroids in an enclosed outdoor area.

http://www.thesummitonline.com/birmingham/files/SummitStoreDirectory.pdf

There's a map, it'll give you a basic idea for what to expect. It's very popular, and yeah, you'll find a lot of traffic and people there.

On another note, if you're talking about the entire Birmingham Metro area, there's also the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover. It's still VERY VERY busy - both the surrounding area in Hoover and the mall itself.

UAB's campus is also a very populous area, incredibly active and busy during the day.

New question. Thanks.

Well to be reasonable, many writers research the various topics they want to write about before actually undertaking the project. It's not like Michael Crichton just made up the stuff about DNA in Jurassic Park. He researched it. It's not like people are a closed book who can't learn more.

The Matrix Reloaded has my favorite car chase of all time - and it's plenty violent.

The Italian Job is pretty good for something more traditional too...

this thread is so confusing...

the bourne movies have all had pretty good car chases. the third and second one were also pretty violent at least in terms of cars crashing.

o, i just thought of a new one. live free and die hard, it had plenty of nice ones in there. even one with a fighter jet.

Instead of making a new thread every time I have a question, I just give my old one a new title and bump it.

This way I'm not swamping the forum.

You call this research? You're just a lazy writer. Or a lazy terrorist. ;)

I've already looked up car chases on youtube and on various other sites. I'm just hoping that someone here points me to something I may not have noticed before.

I have an interesting idea I want to write but I need to see it there's anything out there comparable to it. So if that makes me lazy, so be it. :)

And you don't want to give away the idea so no one steals it, is that it? Is this a class project, for pleasure or profit?

And remember, virtually everything has been used/done before, in one form or another. It's all a matter of twisting it to your vision.

Anyway, car chases....best ones are from Bullitt, various Bond movies (Man with the Golden Gun, Thunderball, and a few others I will have to think of...that crappy one with Madonna and Halle Berry), and the others mentioned (Live Free or Die Hard and Die Hard with a Vengeance, Matrix Reloaded, the Bourne novels/movies, Italian Job original and remake, French Connection and Ronin).

If you're looking for semi/truck chases that are pretty damn intense, the Terminator movies

Well thus far no one has mentioned a movie that has the same type of chase I'm envisioning.

And it's not that I don't want anyone to steal it. I just don't want to ruin it for you. :)

deathproof had some nice car violence. mad max was pretty much one large car chase.

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city,
keeping its speed over fifty. And if its speed dropped, the bus
would explode! I think it was called... "The bus that couldn't slow
down."
You are the laziest writer ever.
Some would say I have a lack of inspiration. ;)

The fact is that I'm not asking anyone here to help me write my stories for me. What I do ask for is reference material that I may not find myself. Like the thing with busy streets in Birmingham.

Unless I started scouring blogs to try and find out what part of that city is busiest, it was simply more rational and time effective to post here.
What about The Chase...not really violent but it long and drawn out
i don't know that baby ruth hold up was pretty violent.
I always dug the Blues Brothers cop car pileup.
The Blues Brothers rules. Doesn't it hold the record for most wrecked cars or something?

To be honest, from what I can tell, a lot of the movies in that genre (subgenre?) that come out in theaters don't do well these days. Hostel 2, Captivity, etc all did crap at the box office. I think audiences are getting tired/bored with these kinds of movies and would prefer something else (maybe that has actual story/characterization?)

I'm having a logo done for the script for when I shop it around.

I'm thinking for something like paintbrush strokes made with blood spelling out Brutal. Perhaps some japanese letters painted underneath spelling Brutal as well.

No offense, but I think I read in one of my screenwriting books (can't give you an exact reference) that doing things like that only serve to make you and the script seem amateurish. The words on the page should be enough.

I mean, imagine someone takes a meeting with you after having read the script:
Exec: Well I don't know about this. The script...needs some work: the characters are all over the place and a lot of the dialogue seems very written. Also, audiences don't really want to see these kinds of movies anymore. I'm afraid we're going to have to pass on this.
ZD: But...I have a badass logo!
Exec: Oh shit, no way? I didn't see that, oh man. What did I almost...we are green-lighting and fast-tracking this picture. Here, have a million dollars!

However, you seem very gung-ho about this whole thing and I admire your enthusiasm so you'll have to let me know how it goes.

Also, for someone who asked a question about 'torture porn' I'm surprised you didn't respond to my previous comment.

Regarding your question on the story and characterization? I'm working on that right now. I could have finished the script 6 months ago if I ignored the story and characterization and just concentrated on the violence. It's actually been troubling me because I want to tell just the right story. I already have the sense of what I want this story to be but getting there is the problem.

I've had a number of small requests for the script and for those specific requests, I wanted to include a small logo on the very first page. And even if the logo makes me seem like an amatuer, I have great faith that the first ten pages of the script will make up for it. :)

Although originally it was meant to be like Saw/Hostel, I watched Seven over and over again and read the script for inspiration. I'm drawing influence from an anime show for Brutal as well and hopefully when it all comes together, it gels.

My personal goal is to be attached as the director for this. I have complete faith that I'll manage to sell it, most likely with some kind of altercation with the ending I've decided for it. I just really want to be able to get in the director's seat and the logo is a step towards that. My avatar and signature are for another script I'll be working on after Brutal and Biohard.

Basically, it's to show that I have vision.

No. I'm not. I decided long ago that you were right and quit. Thanks for showing me the way. :)
