I quote ryan..and you can get two gbs of corsair ram, for like 10$ more, and it's more powerful. CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM System Memory - Retail at Newegg.com

Though it may not work with you're comp
DDR2 will not work with any socket 939 motherboard.

I'd recommend this ram.. better timings and 2 gb instead of 1

Also, yeah.. as the others have said.. you're going to need a processor, also

A budget would be helpful so we can help you pick the best parts for the price.

I second the recommendation against a refurbished hard drive, especially from Maxtor.

its not worth it for the video card... the xtreme line of any geforce card is just a castrated version of the real card, unlike atis cards xt versions being better. Heres a link to a card that is an awesome deal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102646

you can overclock it to be a x850xt pe, and that costs over 300 dollars. For 130 after rebate the gto2 seems like an obvious choice. I will be picking one of these up b4 sunday as well, so i encourage you to do the same.

The floppy drive seems not needed but to each his own i guess.

Also one recomendation would be get a cpu... you cant run this pc without a processor! LOL

heres a link for a nice processor : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103562

Actually, the prices are for the item above not the item below. For example the graphics card is $134 and the memory is $77. (I was wondering why a floppy drive was $77... but I was just reading it wrong)

wow i made so many mistakes lol lucky i checked, yea i guessed i mustve erased the cpu when i edited it,

still tryin to tweak it to the point where it reaches 300 dollars lol

... i hope your kidding about spending 300 dollars on everything... no wonder you didnt have a processor included if you want it to be under 300 lol.

although thast a nice card, im just looking for low entry right now, like guild wars but no oblivion, im wondering, would a 60 dollar geforce 7300gs work fine until i feel the need to upgradE?

The Radeon x800gto the guy linked to is a better card than that geforce 6800 you have listed. Consider that Radeon or shelling out just a little more for a geforce 7600 GT, you wont regret it. Also two of my personal rules for buying a hard drive:

1) Never buy refurbished.
2) Never buy maxtor.

There is a nice 160 GB Western Digital SATA hardrive for only $60 shipped at outpost.com right now I suggest getting one or two of those instead. I personaly like having two drives anyway, in case one fails I dont lose all my data.

im guessing that x800gto doesnt have sli right? so if i had the choice of a 90 dolar mobo with sli, and a 60 dollar one with no sli, i should go with no sli

edit: hows this hard drive? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2145270&Tab=5

I'd say that hard drive is fine. But do you really want to deal with three rebates? Also I didn't look at the details of the rebates but they might force you to subscribe to something or there might be hidden costs.

You cannot SLI Radeon video cards at all. What you can do with them is run them in crossfire mode. Crossfire mode requires a special crossfire card and a crossfire motherboard, not an Nvidia nforce motherboard but an ATI equivalent. Also SLI and Crossfire are overpriced, they don't deliver performance that justifies the cost when you are on a small budget.

Just get that X800 GTO that guy suggested or some 7600GT. If I were you though I would save up some more money and try to get a 7900GT or X1800XT they will last you about a year or so longer.

Also, what is your budget? Do you have ANY components yet (keyboard, case, mouse, monitor, etc ...) ?

yea ive got all those things, im ALMOST FINALLY done now...a couple more minutes and ill show u the completed system

If you're only going to play games on low quality, just get 1GB of RAM an Athlon 64 3000+, and a 6600GT. Should be plenty to play Guild Wars and AoEIII.

Alright guys, theres everything, please give me ur two cents as this is my first time building a computer and i have to finish this very soon and after about 12 hours of surfing the net/ newegg, that is what ive come up with

This is meant to be a medium gaming machine, no oblivion on 4xAA or whatever, just casual counter source and guild wars, and maybe AOEIII.

With that in mind, this is the max im willing to pay, as its already over my limit cuz cash is short. i plan on updating later, ie more ram. but is this good enough right now? is it all compatable? is there a cheaper alternative that i can exchange one of my pieces for that wouldnt make much of a performance difference? thank you for ur help

i can get regular aeon 6600 for 69.99, 600gt for 99.99 after rebates, or the x800gto2 for 139.99 after rebate, u think i should downgrade to 69.99 and save 70 dollars?? would i still be able to run 1240x1024 on counter strike soruce and AOEIII?

EDIT:: so ive gotten rid of the x800gto2 and instead got a 99.99 dollar shipped brand new x800xl 256 from a seller on ebay... was this smart on my part when speaking money to power wise? since im kinda low on cash http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8803325632

It should be fine for you, I personaly don't know if it is better than the GTO or not. However judging by prices on Newegg it does cost more and that typically means better. So as long as it works it was a good deal.

Athlon 3000+ is def not enough. I would recommend getting at least a 3800+ or a X2 processor. It's a bit more expensive but its def worth it in the long run. Never buy processors this obsolete when building your own computer.

lol...i already ordered it, but i dunno, 3000+ is 1.8ghz which i found can also be easily overclocked to 2.4 comfortably with perfect stability, which should be fine for me i think, thank u all for ur help

btw i found that the x800xl is indeed better than that x800gto2, but the x800gto2 can be overclocked to be similar to the x850xtpe, but i didnt really want to flash a bios onto it and ruin my warranty and all, plus it was more expensive

you dont flash a bios.... the card comes with the pipelines already unlocked, and sapphire includes an overclocking program on the driver disk. O well, your loss.

man...after reading about windows vista needing a 3d card for its 3d desktop, i guess i shouldve shelled out the extra 30 dollars for that card

well, its sunday... assuming you ordered saturday.... you can still cancel your order and reorder whatever you wanted? Just an option.

nah i ordered friday, which sucks cuz now its stuck at step 3 where payment is already confirmed but its still being packaged and not shipped yet cuz its the weekend, apparently i cant change the order now...worse comes to worse i think by the time i need to upgrade graphic cards the 299 ones now will only be 120

Nothing to really add as far as advice (and you've already ordered anyway :) ), but I bought that same DVD burner from newegg a few days ago. Just arrived at my door today! woot!
just curious, what OS will you be running on this system?
