No, it gives you some extra stuff. You can still play your friend's copy.

Unlike most EA pass games, you gain nearly worthless content here.

With the EA pass you gain 6 "Echo" maps. Echo mode is a sorta point rush mode, where you try to do as many skill shots in a period of time. These levels are nothing more than cropped out story levels (lacking news bots), and you play most of the more active fight parts. The added maps are also just from campaign.

You also get a special leash, but only works online. If you played the demo, you can get a special one too.
