Burnout 3 (finally) $19.99 at Best Buy

You sometimes need to hunt for the GGCs. When you see them, get a few. I usually get 3 for every game I want, and put $5 on each, so it pays for the game and I've got 2 extra GGCs for later.

It's been advertised as such in several of the gaming print magazines recently.

I had posted this somewhere else, but I'm sure it got lost. You can find the old GGC sometimes in the display CD/DVD storage racks. Usually they fill them up to demonstrate the product. I found 13 of them here in PA and bought them all and only put .01 on each. So for .13 i got 13 jewel cases and eventually saved $75.

And stunts like that are what had the GGC disappear from some BB's.

It's weird, I've seem some lime green GGC recently that look exactly the same on the front, but no longer have any coupon on the back. Had to hunt through a few racks of them to find ones that do still have the coupon on them.

I feel safe to say that you're idiot. It's stuff like this that is the reason that others cannot find the GGC anymore and why BB is phasing them out. Couldn't you have at least put a dollar on each. It's going to go towards the game anyway, or to any other product that you buy.

yes, i agree...why not put some money on it since you have to spend $15 to use it anyway? otherwise its just gonna ruin it for everyone. i realize not everyone has the loot to do this but at minimum you should put at least $5 on each card....

No i couldn't have put $5 on it. Why should I? I'm here to save money not tie up cash flow. If you would like to take a class in economics, I can surely point you in the right direction. You can put ANY amount on, the reason they phased it out was they were lowering the over-head on a $20 which was generally a price drop from a $40 or $50 game. They will take less of a loss and more profit if it comes off of a $30 game then a $20 one. Here endeth the lesson. I accept pay-pal as well.

If you could actually READ you will see that I said I found them stashed in the storage area. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough for the Forrest Gump's here that this was recently, so clearly that had no effect on why they changed the ggc or why they disappeared. Would you like one? Get off your ass and drive to 3 different Best Buys like I did and find some.

I also didn't realize that because you didn't think of it first that I should keep you in consideration when saving money. When you're collection is as big as mine you come talk to me and tell me how you save money.

Who are you to tell me what I can and can't do that is well within the Best Buy business practice? Why is it ok to discuss "flipping" games from one store to another to amass hundreds of dollars in credit but I put a fucking penny on a gift card and I'm crucified? fuck you, you hypocrites. Cast the first stone...

By putting 5$ on it you still wouldn't have lost any money, since you could have used the money on the giftcard towards the game. And like others have been saying, most of us can't find any because of people like you who only put a penny on each card.

That is not the point. How would it have made any difference what amount I put on the card? There are still over a dozen left there. Would it make you feel better if I went back, bought ALL of the new restocked ones and put $5 a piece on them? How does either scenario help or hurt anyone here? If you're pissed, fine? Do something about it. If not that's cool too. Need one, stop bitching and go find one or PM I have about 6 left.

Yeah, and I bet it's a similar mentality that managed to wipe out entire species.

I just like to put $5 on them because it causes less hassle. If it's $1 or less, it raises eyebrows. When I put $5 on two and $5.74 on another (to cover tax), they wonder what's up, but never to the point where they stop the process.

I am sure it been phase out because of the new $5 off $29.99 and the glitch that allowed all games to get $5 off.

I'd be happy to discuss about the size of my collection and how I save money, though it's pointless to try and reason with you, since you're set in your ways.

All I can say is that when BB sees enough $0.01 gift cards leaving the store, they can just remove the GGC all together, since it's obvious they're not being used for their intended purpose, legality of what you're doing completely aside. Just because you can do it the way you've done doesn't mean you should. Some stores have none of them, some only have the $5 off $29.99 or more, while others have both types. Completely up to you on what you should do, though if you do it, and enough other people do it, you'll help to ruin it. Like the good old Target raincheck policy that's now changed.

Discuss away. I'd love to hear how you don't go to tru for the clearances, or CC, or gamerush, or eb, or PMing at CC.

And how is only putting $5 and using the coupon on it "the intended purpose?"

I thought this was cheap ass gamer, I missed the memo that the site had changed direction.

Actually that is incorrect, it isn't that you COULDN'T put $5 on the card it is that you WOULDN'T put $5 on the card.

We all understand that you could only put a penny on the card, but I think we also understand that having everyone put a penny on these cards might raise some eyebrows, which can eventually lead to the loss of the gamer's gift cards altogether. Since you must spend atleas 15$ on the game anyways putting $5 on the card is reasonable. Unless you invest every last penny of your money, losing that money early isn't that big in the scheme of things.

The "intended purpose" for a gift card is to put money on it for someone else to spend. $5 is a rational amount of money to be put on the card, such as for a Secret Santa gift, or kid's birthday party grab bag, or other such things. $0.01, that's just because the system allows for $0.01. Do it enough times, they could easily make it $5, $10, or $20 for their minimum amount to be put onto a card.

It is CheapAssGamer, though bringing light to a deal that is easily exploitable with $0.01 on a gift card instead of some other logical amount, then the deal can disappear. Again, the Target Rain Checks are an example of this. You're not the sole reason it could disappear, though done enough, with enough people in enough places, and yes, it could disappear.

You chose not to put $5 on the card. That's your choice. No one's forcing you to do it. When they aren't available anymore, go cry somewhere else.

Rather than escalate this further, I'll just say that I don't see your point. You don't see mine and that's fine by me. Feel free to judge me further, it will make no difference in how I approach this board or my collections. Thanks for your time.

I am not saying it is ok to put 1 cent, but we all know the reason the GGC are gone because BB are not printing any. That's becasue
1. Phase out in favor of the new $5 off $29.99
2. Glitch that allows all game $5 off

I dont think people putting 1 cent is their primary concern.

As you wish. Though, don't be surprised if others comment about it in the future.

I always tried to put 10.00 on my cards. it never made much difference to me since I was still spending around 16.00(with tax) for a 20.00 game with the coupon. 10.00 card + 5.00 coupon + 5.xx out of pocket or 0.01 card + 5.00 coupon + 15.xx out of pocket. the 1st way just looked better at the register to me.

I hope people comment, exchange of opinions and the defense of those opinions is what a message board is built on. Whether you or anyone else liking it isn't on my list of things to care about today.

Anyone know if Burnout 3 is considered a GH at Best Buy B&M (or online) yet? I want it for the 2 for 30 greatest hit deal.

Thanks

Okay okay, well there is nothing "wrong" with doing the $.01 gift card thing. You are within your rights, you are legal, etc etc. If you can get away with it and the cashier lets you, then fine.

HOWEVER it's just a common courtesy issue to be discreet in your gift card use. It is definitely your "right" to use the cards however you like, but for the good of the big picture and the good of your fellow CAG's, it's always best to avoid practices that will send red flags to corporate. That's how these happy, leaky little loopholes get PLUGGED - and we don't want that!

And it is a little different from clearance sales and things like that... if merchandise is priced to move, and it MOVES, no one from corporate is gonna perk up and be like "HEY, we shouldn't do this anymore! People are taking advantage of it!"

I am not trying to point fingers, because I myself tend to just take gift cards out of the store without putting anything on them, and I know many people wouldn't approve of that. I just want to try and clarify the rationale I guess.

Oh and Burnout 3, good lord.... $20 for this game is a steal, GGC or no GGC. I got a sweet raincheck deal on this back when it first came out, but in retrospect this is one of those games that would have been worth every penny if I paid full price. I am not into driving games but I frigging love Burnout 3. I recommend the XBOX version if you have a choice; custom soundtracks and the analog trigger-based controls are wonderful.

Not yet. But, with the GGC, you can get any $20 game for $15 B&M, so it's no problem.

They always told me that I was required to put at least $5 on the card. Sometimes I got away with only putting $1 on the card, but never a penny. In fact, I never tried a penny, I'd be too ashamed, lol.

Oh and for the record, my Best Buy stopped doing the $5 off $19.99 and up cards as well. Just the Xbox and EA Sports $29.99 ones remain.

All the BB's in town are sold out, I was able to procure a copy at Target(Last Copy)

EA and Lucasarts must be in a big hurry, both Battlefront and Burnout 3 didn't have the white security tags with the PS2 hologram on them, even though they were obviously factory sealed......

bought my burnout 3 at target when it first hit $20 opened and played it
this weeks ad came out i bought it again and used my old receipt to return(90 days til expire) it to get my 5$ back
same as the GGC but no need to deal with BB
BB just lowered Burnout 3 to $20 today, so we can all GGC it for $15. I know I did.
Aailable at my local CostCo B&M for $15.99 for Xbox and PS2.
