OSLO, Norway - President Bush (news - web sites)'s "Hook 'em, 'horns" salute got lost in translation in Norway, where shocked people interpreted his hand gesture during his inauguration as a salute to Satan.

That's what it means in the Nordics when you throw up the right hand with the index and pinky fingers raised, a gesture popular among heavy metal groups and their fans in the region.

"Shock greeting from Bush daughter," a headline in the Norwegian Internet newspaper Nettavisen said above a photograph of Bush's daughter Jenna, smiling and showing the sign.

For Texans, the gesture is a sign of love for the University of Texas Longhorns, whose fans are known to shout out "Hook 'em, 'horns!" at sporting events.

Bush, a former Texas governor, and his family made the sign to greet the Longhorn marching band as it passed during the inaugural parade through Washington during Thursday's festivities, explained Verdens Gang, Norway's largest newspaper.

You're right, all that "flipper" talk didn't get republicans anywhere. Though I never even hear of this sign, bull horns or whatever it is. I always though it was a symbol for the devil, never knew it was used any other way.

Likely you wouldn't unless you watch college football, or have at least never seen Texas play. It's actually a pretty common thing especially in Texas where Bush is from, why some reporter felt it necessary to do an article (if this is the best news he/she could find after an international visit something's wrong with that picture) and some crazy Norweigans didn't realize what was going on I have no idea.

Whenever I read the Book of Revelations, for some reason I picture George Bush as the antichrist. Now everything makes sense! He's probably thanking his "real dad".

I heard Armageddon is going to happen untill 2025, and were not supposed to be able to point out the anti crist like that. He is supposed to be unknown untill the end, it very unlikely that something posted on the internet is a reliable source for the anticrist.
