A Jacksonville promotions company plans to sell a doll as a tribute to slain toddler Caylee Marie Anthony.

The Inspirational Caylee Sunshine Doll will go on sale Tuesday for $29.99.

The blonde-haired, 18-inch doll wears jeans and a T-shirt depicting a sun and the phrase: "CAYLEE SUNSHINE." The song "You Are My Sunshine" plays when her belly button is pushed.

Jaime Salcedo, president of Showbiz Promotions, said he is not selling a doll that looks exactly like Caylee because it would be too morbid and difficult for the public.

Instead, he said, they want to honor and respect Caylee's life by bringing awareness to her case.

"We want it to be a tribute," he said.

Salcedo said this is the first product his promotions company will sell that is inspired by the victim of a crime.

Salcedo said he plans to donate a portion of the proceeds to charity -- though he does not have an organization lined up yet.

Salcedo said he's waiting to hear back from several organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. He is considering donating $3 for every doll sold.

Asked about whether it's appropriate for his company profit on Caylee's death, Salcedo said he is anticipating critics.

"I think that that is going to come up," he said.

Salcedo said the public does not understand what it costs to make the doll, ship it, import it, and his company's expenses.

They are only donating $3 per doll sold?

Seems like they are profiting from it... 90% of it they get to keep. I'm pretty sure it is since it seems will cover the 'costs to make the doll, ship it, import it, and his company's expenses' pretty comfortably.

IMO America's obsession with tragedy is tasteless and awful.

When I went to my parents' for Christmas they watched CNN a lot, nothing but murders and plane crashes. WTF. They'd go on and on about the suspects and interview people remotely linked.. who the hell cares that much? If they deem it national news (which they shouldn't) then they should just say "This happened. Moving on..." Humans are such drama whores.

I just see this doll as an extension of that tragedy-obsession..

Well the publicity backfired and they're not making it anymore....

It was our intention to begin the sale of the Sunshine Caylee Doll at 12:00pm January 27, 2009. As we mentioned to the media in our press release it was very important that we allow the press to present our idea to the public first, in an effort to measure the reaction to our fund raising efforts. As the story developed we also announced that we would be donating 100% of the profits to charity. However, after reviewing the response to our media introduction of the Sunshine Caylee Doll and listening to the advice of the general public. We feel that is it best to suspend the launch of The Sunshine Caylee Doll.

While we still feel it is important to raise awareness and raise money to help stop this type of crime from being committed. We feel we can be more effective using more traditional methods.

I like how they say that 100% of the profits would go to charity in this, yet it was 10% when they announced it. Idiots.

The CEO of the company behind the dolls needs to be shot. Nancy Grace on CNN did rip him a bit of a new one, but it's still not enough.

They said $3, which would be 10% of the revenue, not profits. But I seriously doubt it takes $27 to make and distribute the doll.

Someone could market a whole line of tasteless "victim" dolls with altered but recognizable names. It would sell like hotcakes to the same crowd that buys the serial killer collectors cards and garbage pail kids.
The Sasha and Malia dolls are fine. It is just a cult of personality thing.

A doll based on a murder victim? Even I think that is in poor taste.
What DON'T you think is in poor taste? ?_?

Can you say hot topic?

I'm going to do something I don't do very often. I'm going to trust the douchebag CEO-- I could see that doll costing 27 dollars to make. I mean, look at the... doll hair and... pants.

Know any venture capitalists?

And now it's going to drive me crazy because I know I've seen that doll face before. Also I just noticed he chose not to have it look just like her because he knew it would be morbid.

ANGRY KERMIT.

I'd buy one. To go with the Casey Anthony Vodoo doll I got off ebay.
