Buyer admits to ripping me off in e-mail, now what?

Personally I wouldn't advise you harrass the buyer or do anything that might end up getting you in trouble.

Just do a little research and file all the stuff against him you can. Forward the e-mail to eBay and PayPal, check out mail fraud charges, maybe contact your police dept, or the police dept in his area. All depends on how much effort you want to put out over this.

I been using ebay for over 5 years, and what I can tell, I been ripped off more then 10+ times... and every single time I learn something new, I did manage to get some of the money back but not all... I have also kicked out over 3-4 people off of ebay.

Always always use a tracking # to confirm proof of delivery... I had people tryed this on me more then once, and once I summit the tracking# to paypal... they were screw...

It's just always goin to happen, & people are always trying to find new ways to scam you...
PM this guy's info to me . . . I'm an attorney and wouldn't mind putting a bit of a shock into him.
And I was just going to suggest contacting a lawyer to see what legal recourse you have, too... :bouncy:

And the calling thing is good, fake a local survey contest... "Hello sir, I'm calling from *insert grocery store name here*, and we're doing a survey in your area. It's only a couple questions, and you be chosen to win $100 of free groceries. Would you like to particpate?"

Then ask for name, street address and mailing address (maling in case he 'wins', street for survey purposes), and some BS grocery questions... like where he shops, how much he spends a week...

And now you know for sure he is who he is, and can get lawyers/police on his case. Heh heh heh...

Oh, and if he asks why it isn't a local call, explain you're at the corporate office and all surveys are done from there. :D
Thanks for the information everyone. I got the information from ebay's user info request. Full name, but no street address and a phone #, which may or may not be working. I should call him right now(it's late), but I'll wait.

It's ashame that a few bad apples ruin it for the rest. But, unless ebay or paypal do something about this in the future, it will only get worse for buyers and sellers who are victims.

On a semi-related note, how are Yahoo auctions? Anyone use them? I've only heard BAD THINGS about them...
you could always try www.anywho.com with the phone number and do a reverse look up to attempt to find a street address.
I had a bad feeling about it. Next time I'll listen to my gut. Problem is, I've had plenty of people with 0 feedback or low feedback and unconfirmed addresses pay for items with no problems. I've also had a person with 120 feedback (who is now suspended), do a chargeback (same thing this guy did). To me feedback doesn't mean a whole lot. I've had good and bad experiences with people of varying degrees of feedback.

A) If I put doesn't ship to P.O. Boxes, will the buyers listen? They didn't listen when I told them I don't accept Credit Cards.

B) If I stopped selling to unconfirmed paypal users, I wonder if it matters, given the fact that paypal seems just as willing to do chargebacks on confirmed addresses, and it would hurt sales.
is there a timeframe for the charge back? if there is.. just hold shipping the future product until the timeframe for the chargeback is expired.

That ain't going to fly with PayPal or the buyers.

Waiting until the payment clears is fine (and what PayPal insists you do, actually). Waiting until the chargeback period has expired for a PayPal payment is not. Most PayPal payments clear immediately. Exceptions are some bank transfers, which take 3 or 4 business days to clear I believe.
