Buyer won't close resolved dispute. Advice?

So, about a month and a half ago I sold a game on ebay. A week after it sells, the buyer filed a claim against me because the game wouldn't work in his system. I had tested it before selling it and so had the person who owned the game before I did, so I recommended that the buyer clean the disc as it was obvious that the fault was with his console, not the disc itself. The buyer got incredibly hostile with me after this, accusing me of lying about the condition of the item and had some ridiculous conspiracy theory about me being a liar because I didn't ship the game until three days after it sold. (my printer was broken, causing the delay, and I even sent the buyer a note of apology the day I shipped the item.)

So anyway they wanted their money back. Instead of offering a refund, I offered a disc exchange because I owned a second copy of the game. They accepted this and I switched discs out. But that was a month ago, and I haven't heard a single word from them since. They haven't purchased anything on ebay since the dispute began, and they just seem to be completely gone. The problem is that they won't close the dispute even though their silence probably means they're satisfied, so my money is in eternal Paypal limbo because of this.

I can't find any kind of "expiration date" for the dispute where it'll just close after a set period of inactivity from the buyer so I'm just wondering if anyone has been in this kind of situation before and knows of a solution. I know that contacting the (probably unsympathetic) ebay/Paypal tech support is an option and so is contacting the buyer directly through email, phone, etc. but with my money on the line I'm not sure which option is least likely to result in something going horribly wrong (yeah, I'm a little paranoid when it comes to anything ebay-related.) All help is appreciated.

Nope, it was never escalated. Just at the "talk it out" phase. Can the seller escalate even when the dispute is against them? That might be my only option to end this at this point, though I certainly hope it isn't as I don't entirely trust ebay/Paypal not to award the claim to the buyer anyway :cold:

DO NOT ESCALATE THIS. If you want it closed contact eBay / PayPal or wait it out. I had buyers open INR claims against me. Once I responded and the ball was back in their court (Seller always get first opportunity to respond) they did absolutely nothing. After about 5 weeks the case closed on its own.

Try logging into eBay and going to the "Community" ----> "Seller Central" forums tab. They can be very helpful

Thanks for the advice. Amazingly, the buyer actually closed the dispute a couple of hours ago so....good timing and problem solved I guess
