Buying a 360- Now or Later?

I'll be missing Black Friday, because I'll be at my grandparents, who are miles away from any stores. Should I buy a 360 now, or hold out for any Christmas season deals? (I think Gamestop usually throws in a free game at this time, last year it was a COD title.)

I'll probably buy an Arcade and beg my friends to sell me an old 20GB HDD on the cheap.

I'm not sure if it is still going on, but if you buy an arcade, you're eligible for a refurbished hard drive to be sent by MS for....20-30 bucks I think? That's as cheap as they'll get and you shouldn't have any problems getting a refurb directly from MS.

The holiday bundles are already out and about in stores. That doesn't mean retailers won't start packing things in themselves, but the arcade comes with Sega Tennis and the others come with...I think Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda (but don't hold me to that). Point being is that those bundles are already available.

As far as waiting goes, everyone keeps talking about the Jasper chip, which is supposed to make the system more stable and lower power consumption. But no one knows when those will be available, and most likely they won't be in proper circulation until after the holidays. Additionally, the bundles available now aren't Jasper chips - they are leftover Falcon reserves.

In all reality, it seems that the Falcons are pretty stable, so you shouldn't have a problem getting one of those. So really it doesn't matter if you wait or not - you might miss out on a bundle from a retailer, but I wouldn't know anything about that.

Yup. Strell laid that out pretty well. I'd only like to add that retail sales were down again in the month of October so the retailers have to be getting desperate. I recall seeing a few sales right before the holidays last year on places like Amazon for some awesome bundles. Get whichever of these holiday bundles you can, but you may want to hold out until December to look for any additional toss-ins. There always seems to be an ample supply of the holiday bundles unless you have the word Wii stamped on the box

Aren't there Black Friday online deals too? You could do those from anywhere ... but I doubt it will make a difference for the 360 bundle. If you have some free time over the holidays, I would buy it now so you have time to play, but if not, then it doesn't really matter! :)

I think the refurbished HDD deal is only for people who bought a Core that has no memory card packed in, and all the current Arcades have them. Thanks for the info!

I don't know how good the revised falcon chips are, but basically my falcon xbox from oct 18 from 07 just went out on me. For me I would just be like waiting for that jasper because it's ridiculous with this red ring stuff. Although if you want to get your game on with gears, fable, and all the new releases just go for it man. Try to get a good xbox, and look for a good deal right now.

Circuit City has an Arcade, 20GB HDD, and extra wireless controller for $200 on Black Friday

I might be wrong but I think Core gets a free hard drive or memory card. Then for arcade owners if you are eligible I believe is where they offer the $30 20GB hard drive with 3 months of live. I think you are eligible if you have downloaded things where you do not have 128MB of available space. I mean he can always try that, if it don't work then he can always go for a cheap 20 GB out there.
