Buying a Broken PS3

I'm sorry of this isn't the right forum, as you can see I'm new here.

I've been trying to get a Ps3 without paying much, and one thing I've considered is getting a broken one on eBay. Because some of the bids are so low I thought even if I have to foot the $150 repair bill it would be worth it.

So is this a good idea? If I'm buying I broken one should I find one with a warranty that's still intact so I don't have to pay repair costs? Is there anything else I should be aware of before buying a broken Ps3?

you need a receipt to get the warranty. Your other option is to look on craigslist for local repairer who will likely charge less than sony.

I went this route with a DS.. broken off eBay expecting to pay Nintendos $55 service fee, but hoping it was as simple as a battery replacement. It ended up having to be sent in. It could be something simple to fix, but I say without a doubt that you need to go into it figuring the $150 into the price. Also, if at all possible, try to get one that's more of an electronic failure than straight abuse. The BD drives have been known to fail in some, HDD failure and fan failure are common reasons for repair. You'd probably be surprised at how many people feel the need to smack around and drop an expensive piece of equipment when it's not working.
