Hi all,

I'm new and do not currently own a psp, so this is a bunch of newbie questions, please don't flame me!

If anyone can answer the following, that'd be great!

-- why is everyone so concerned about firmware versions? what does it do? does it limit users to the different games that they can play?

-- i notice that there are not that many games available in the US for the psp. i can read chinese and plan on buying chinese games since i figured there may be more selection available. does anyone know where i can buy them via the web (that ships to the US)? perhaps a suggestion on a reliable site for buying games from asia?

-- if i plan on playing games in chinese, can a psp bought in the US support that language? i heard there's a language selection option, can this option be toggled back and forth for different games? (as i most likely will buy some games from the US and some from asia) does anyone know if playing games bought in different places will present a problem?

-- also, now that i see from other threads that other colors for the psp is available, does anyone know where i can get a psp in another color that ships to the US?

-- if i wanted to download anime files into the psp for viewing on the road, how do i go about doing that? (i read about some media converter package out there -- is that what i need to get anime files from the PC off onto the PSP?)

-- i read a lot of threads re dead pixels on this forum, do you guys recommend buying the psp via a retail store so i can exchange it in case i find dead pixels on mine as well? and if so, what stores offer this exchange policy?

Sorry for all the questions, but again I'm new and hopefully someone can shed light on some or all of these issues.

P.S. -- any other general advice on buying/playing PSP welcome via replies here, e-mails, or PMs!

THANK YOU so much!!

firmware limits some crafty people ability to run homebrew apps and emulation. thats why lots of people are concerned about having 1.5, if you dont care, then it doesnt really matter.

well, that presents a problem if you want a white psp, dead pixels are just a fact of life. but yes, you will have a much easier time returning it if you buy it from a store

YAY thanks for all your answers iheartmetal!!

now i just have to decide btwn a white psp and risk the dead pixels...or a plain black one from the store... #-o

anyone got suggestions for a great RPG game?

There are a few Chinese advanture games, and it doesnt looks like any of them are getting a US release.

i wish i can read japanese so i can play those cuter adventure/rpg games...

there's no way to get a sony warranty if you buy off a site like lik-sang or play-asia? what a bummer...
